It was a quiet week. It was a slow week. It was a tiresome week. But hey, there is a bigger 3DS now I suppose? So soon too! Oh bugger it all! Well at least there isn’t a sequel to Russell Grant’s Astrology for the 3DS yet. Thank god for that.
Square Enix and IO Interactive has continued to release their Hope News Time images and this time around the factitious newspaper is reporting about a massive slaughter inside of one of Hope’s social clubs, apparently no one saw the gunmen or heard any shots, but fourteen people were found dead from bullet wounds.
The full newspaper can be seen below and those who have been paying attention will likely note that this means that players will be taking on a social club with about fourteen targets when Hitman: Absolution is released in stores later this year on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Pokemon Black & White 2 are bound to be huge when they hit this fall, but if early numbers are any indication, this duo may be the biggest success in the franchises’ history. The Pokémon Company recently revealed that Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 have surpassed the one million mark in pre-orders, with a total amount of 1.16 million hit on June 17th.
Yeah, yeah, we know these games sell, but these numbers really show how much fans still care about that classic Pokemon formula. These titles will of course feature a brand new story, taking place after the events of the first story and will also include many of the past species from the start. Fall seems a long ways off for us in the west, but this is just the beginning and you can be sure that there is even more promotion and hype to come in the near future.
Capcom’s new IP Dragon’s Dogma seems to be doing quite well as the publisher revealed late yesterday that they have shipped one million copies of the title around the world. Of those copies, 92,000 units sold in under a week in the U.S. while 437,248 copies have been sold in Japan as of last week. Considering the new and rather risky seeming development of the title, it looks like the game is doing quite well.
Capcom is hoping to ship 1.5 million copies of the game by the end of March 2013, and considering they have already reached 66% of that goal, it seems quite reasonable to assume it will be reached. Capcom also revealed that they are planning to turn Dragon’s Dogma into a franchise and are planning on releasing more games in the series sometime in the future.
For the first time ever, the cover athlete for the NHL series was put up to a vote by fans of EA Sports and earlier this week the company revealed that Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers had won the vote. Earlier today the company revealed the cover with Giroux’s image which can be seen above.
Also revealed was some gameplay footage of Giroux’s character in action which can be seen below. Those looking to pick up the game itself will need to wait until September 11th in North America while Europeans must wait until September 14th before they can pick up the title on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
If you play Polytron’s XBLA title, Fez, then you probably received an update sometime this past week which may or may not have corrupted your game’s save file. Well after issuing a warning about the patch and telling gamers not to access the title, it seems that at least at the moment, fans of the series can once again begin playing Fez.
Microsoft has pulled the patch from Xbox Live and the game will no longer try to force players into patching the title if they haven’t already. For those still undergoing the affects of the patch there is a method which may resolve your problems, which involves clearing your 360’s cache. Currently Polytron is still working on a patch for the patch but at least non-corrupted players can begin playing the title once again.

The Amazing World of Gumball Games: School House Rush Developer: Cartoon Network Publisher: Cartoon Network Price: FREE – Play Online Game Here
Overview
Usually you don’t really want to play a game that has to do with school, because, well you’re trying to escape the reality of school by playing games. However, The Amazing World of Gumball Games: School House, takes the idea of having a school at the centre of a game and makes it ridiculous and fun. Which fits in perfectly with the Gumball universe.
Gameplay
The school has started to flood! Which is not only every school kid’s fantasy, but also makes for an interesting gaming dynamic, with a whole lot of platforming involved as well as some innovative gameplay designs. Unlike normal schools, this one seems to have no ceiling and plenty of little suns floating around that you collect in order to get scored at the end of the game. There are so many, in so many places, that if you are one of those people who making sure that you get the highest amount as you can it will involve a fair bit of doubling back and exploring the huge amount of space within each level. If you simply move forward then the levels are of a fairly decent length and (mostly) fairly simple and straightforward to make your way through.
Instead of a set amount of ‘lives’ there is a life bar, which depletes every time you are hurt. To refill your bar you just have to collect one of the several hearts that are available on the levels. However if your life bar is already full then you can’t collect a heart, so you can’t save them up for a rainy day or anything like that. The hearts are plentiful in the levels, so you can usually find one if you’re in need of it. If you do end up dying, which can happen all in one go if you accidentally get caught in a trouble spot and bounce off it a couple times, then it isn’t that big of a deal. There are a huge amount of checkpoints you go past, it isn’t just one per level like you’d usually expect. Rarely does it have a hugely negative impact or send you back that far.
There are three levels in total to School House Rush, with each level having a boss stage at the end of them. Defeating the boss involves more of an avoiding of their attacks, rather than any attacking of your own. These boss levels didn’t offer too much of a challenge, and were generally easy to finish, and even if you do happen to fail then it’s just a matter of retrying the level. It is a generally forgiving game, and it doesn’t cause too much anger if you do happen to screw up, which is good given just how frustrating platforming games can get. The levels don’t really make much sense in terms of logic or the story line, such as the first one where you have to warn a teacher of the flood, but first you have to try to dodge detentions by letting your fellow classmates take the hit. But they were still quite enjoyable regardless.
Given the fact that there are only three levels, the game manages to cover a range of platforming types of levels. There is a normal rope-swing one, a water level, and an outside level with new dangers and things to deal with. It’s nice that even though the game is short they’ve managed to cover a range of basics for platformers.
Visuals
The graphics are in the style of The Amazing World of Gumball in that whole super happy, fun cartoon sort of look. Just like how the concept feels like a kid’s fantasy, the image of the school flooding, the happy suns, and even the dangers that you should be avoiding, are all entirely unthreatening.
Audio
The soundtrack is just as happy go lucky as the visuals, with the main feature being a recorder brightly whistling out a tune as your hero goes about trying to save the school from flooding. It’s a perfect match to the game, but the repetitiveness might get annoying after a while.
Overall
Overall, the game is a nice little snack of a platformer. It won’t take too long to complete, but you can make it take longer by actually trying to get all of the suns and explore the levels fully. It all just depends on how much effort and back tracking you are willing to do. It is generally easy to follow the intended route and getting lost won’t happen, or if it does it’s a matter of taking a path that’s right in front of you but requires some thought and skill.
BlueGiant Interactive has announced Tryst, a futuristic RTS where “where humans find themselves at war with a mechanical alien race known as the Zali.” In Tryst players will take control of one of the two factions whilst vying for supremacy, whilst trying to avoid the reactive environmental dangers. Tryst’s main selling point is its A.R.M. feature otherwise known as the Augmentation Research Mechanism, this is said to consist of allowing the player “to equip units with specific load-outs to change their natural advantages and disadvantages.” This would suggest that Tryst has something more to offer then the simple Rock-Paper-Scissors mechanics of some other games.
