Despicable Me: Minion Rush, the charming little endless runner from Gameloft based on the popular Despicable Me movie franchise has hit a huge milestone of 50 million downloads.

50 Million downloads is impressive no matter which way you cut it, but what makes this feat all the more outstanding is the fact that the game is scarcely a month old. Since its release, the game reached the #1 position in the top free apps of the iOS store in more than 100 countries, and held that title for a staggering 3 weeks, even beating out the “king of iOS,” Candy Crush Saga.

Minion Rush has also gotten itself a new update for those 50 million+ players (and counting) to enjoy. Right now you can download the latest version which adds an entire new area; El Macho’s Lair from the Despicable Me 2 film, as well as over 150 new challenges and achievements, and two new costumes; the Golfer and Bee-Do Fire Alarm Minions.

I reviewed Despicable Me: Minion Rush when it first came out (check it out here), and although it isn’t a perfect game, I am not ashamed to say I play at least a few runs every day. With this new update, there is just more to like and more reasons to keep coming back.

Gameloft are hitting home runs with every ball this week after first getting to an impressive 10 million fans on Facebook and now this. If you haven’t gotten onto Despicable Me: Minion Rush yet, then definitely go download it from iTunes or Google Play. Also, check out our review for the film Despicable Me 2, and as usual, stay tuned to Capsule Computers for all the Despicable Me and Gameloft news as it becomes available.

Dragon Age Inquisition Gets Some More Details

dragon-age-inquisition-01

Dragon Age: Inquisition, the upcoming Dragon Age title from Bioware and Electronic Arts, recently got some information dropped on it in the Bioware panel at PAX Australia.

Some of the high points from that panel regarding Dragon Age: Inquisition. Some of those high points include:

– They’re aiming for a mix between the tactical combat of Origins and the “fluidity” of DA2.

– Lots of exploration, they mentioned Bioware’s history of exploration in previous games and said it was a theme they were returning to.

– The player can explore maps and find new things, including  “small dungeons or big dungeons”.

– DAI has a diverse range of environments. There won’t be the same cave repeated seventeen times, etc. The team went through and listed some, as well as showing all the concept art we’ve seen so far (including the new ones they showed at PAX Aus).

– Desert, swamps, mountains, grasslands, ruins, snowy locations – possibly some more but I didn’t catch them.

– Patrick also said (unprompted) that they’re aware of the backlash against ME3’s ‘autodialogue’

Let us know what you think about Dragon Age 3 Inquisition in the comments section below.

Prehistorik Ancient Trailer Released

PREHISTORIK-08

Anuman Interactive  have released an ancient trailer for their remake of Prehistorik, available on a multitude of online platforms and mobile devices, including PC, Mac, Android and iOS.

As a reminder, “Prehistorik” was an action and platformer game, launched for the first time by Titus Interactive on Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and Commodore. The premise of this 1991 version, was that the neanderthal, Grag, must fight against crazy enemies standing in the way of his hunt for food.

PREHISTORIK-09

The trailer for the new Prehistorik game reveals that Grag needs to get through epic battles with more challenging enemies, such as dinosaurs, to save his village, all whilst hunting for food and venturing though ice caves, jungles and mountainous landscapes. The original cartoon style graphics and added comedy are stand-out qualities, incorporating elements of the previous version to enhance the gameplay experience.

PREHISTORIK-010

Prehistorik will be available first on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on 25 July 2013; following soon after on PC, Mac and Android. Check out the ancient trailer below to see this new whacky universe, known to mankind as the Prehistorik!

In the trailer, which you can watch by clicking on the video player below this article, we get to tune into an episode of ‘Orbit and the Asteroids’. We know something terrible is afoot, though, immediately after Kevin gives in to his mom’s pleas for him to go play on his bike.

Was Orbit in league with the aliens? Was he somehow housing them illegally and XCOM found him? Be sure to check out the trailer to see the look on Orbit’s face when he sees the agent.

Ace Combat Infinity Announced as PS3 Exclusive

ace-combat-infinity-announce

Namco Bandai has officially announced Ace Combat Infinity as a PlayStation 3 exclusive with the anticipated teaser trailer viewable below.

Details on the game are very scarce for the time being but Namco Bandai have reportedly confirmed it will be a download-only title, which seems in-line with their recent releases such as the free-to-play Tekken Revolution and the still-in-development Ridge Racer Driftopia.

The teaser trailer only shows glimpses of what appears to be a Russian Sukhoi PAK-FA stealth fighter, planes with delta wing designs and a massive impact crater on the Earth. Perhaps the real-world setting will clash with the series’ classic Strangereal universe?

We will likely get more info in the coming weeks about this new, unexpected take on the Ace Combat series. The teaser website has been updated with the trailer and “For PlayStation 3.”

Penny Arcade Make A Script Panel – PAXAus 2013

PAX-Aus-Creating-a-strip-002

Today at the Penny Arcade Expo Australia event held in Melbourne the guys from the Penny Arcade website held a panel about making a script for their comics. The panel took place in the main hall at the expo to a full crowd of attendees.

The creators of the web comic series entered the stage after a massive light and smoke show to the cheers and applause of the crowd. The panel commenced with the guys communicating with the crowd through a series of messages left via notepad. This had the crowd pumped as the gimmick of getting things to appear legible was quite the laugh.

The panel was a regular Q&A session with Tycho and Gabe from Penny Arcade taking questions from the audience and answering them. Some stand out questions and answers were:

Favourite video game ever?

“Geez man, got a couple. Still have a very fond memory of Kingdom Hearts 2 […] Still really loves Ni no Kuni. [..] Planescape torment.”

If you two had never met how do you think would be today?

“Happy.”

I mean more like where would your writing skills be today?

He answered about how his writing wouldn’t be as good and also about doing IT work that’s where he would be. It’s better for everybody that this happened.

Another thing that was pointed out was that they would really love to start a D&D campaign down here in Aus. If this happens, it would be amazing.

What mistake would you advise other comic creators to take that you’ve taken?

“Keep going when you should stop. […] As long as you’ve done enough you can push for this other kind of thing. [..] Start early before you know what is possible and you’d be shocked at what you can pull off.”

Have you thought about helping people depression given your reach? (In reference to one of their projects dealing with depression)

“When we sorta started it out it wasn’t a project, it was more of the awareness aspect you know. […] the main idea was just to get people to talk about it. […] there’s something more elaborate that we could do get people to talk about it.”

I stole my sisters 3DS, can you draw me a wang?

“How old’s your sister? […] Yeah I’ll draw her a penis.”

Whilst the panel was being undertaken, the audience was also being treated to some on the fly artwork. Nobody was notified of this but we’re sure everyone noticed at some point.

PAX-Aus-Creating-a-strip-004

One story that was quite enjoyable during the Q&A was where the Penny Arcade team were talking about their D&D adventures. One adventure that sounded really Fun was where the team had this thing about some mafia dudes and dudes trying to build a dragon. I’d love to play with these guys.

The panel was an amazingly fun experience and it’s evident that everyone there had a lot of fun. Hopefully this is a benchmark for the quality of panels being held this weekend.

The Division Shows Behind the Scenes

There has been no more news on the newest Tom Clancy IP The Division, since its announcement and reveal at E3 2013. Though perhaps because of the long wait period,  Ubisoft has graced us with a sort of prequel to what was shown at E3, by the way of a behind the scenes video talking with the developers before the big show.

The video tops off at a little more than 6 minutes and is broken up into two parts, the first sees the developers being interviewed more than a week before Tom Clancy’s The Division E3 reveal and the second at the convention. Overall, there isn’t a whole lot more new information about the game itself, but doesn’t provide an insight into their development process for the new title.

Those wanting to watch the full video for themselves can check it out embedded below. The Division is an online open-world shooter RPG set to release for both the Xbox One and PS4
