Super Street Fighter 2

Street Fighter 2 will forever be the mother of all fighting games and regardless of whatever HD remix or whatever Super-Ultra-Hyper-Special-Mega-Tiger Blood update Capcom may provide, Super Street Fighter 2 will most likely be forever remembered as he classic’s greatest incarnation. With a well balanced, varied and unforgettable roster of unique fighters, Super Street Fighter 2 is all about out-maneuvering and out-thinking your opponent without using any deep and technical combos or overpowered super moves. Super Street Fighter 2 has stood the test of time and still remains as one of the greatest arcade games in history, so when it comes to competitive video gaming, it doesn’t get much bigger or better than a Street Fighter 2 tournament. Best Buy Lists Collector’s Edition for Batman: Arkham City…

Best Buy have been really good as of late at leaking content as well as upcoming titles, but this bit of news may be the most interesting in some time as it yet again concerns Batman: Arkham City. As of today, the retailer listed a collector’s edition for the Xbox 360 & PS3 version of the game, along with a price-tag of $99.99. Nothing else is listed for this edition at the moment, but both versions are clearly listed on the official website (click HERE to be taken directly to the page).

If you remember, the Arkham Asylum’s Collector’s edition came with a Batarang replica as well as a DVD and quite a few other goodies, and for the price-tag of $99.99, I would expect Arkham City’s to be just as jam packed this time around. Of course we know nothing as of now though, but as soon as Warner Bros. make the inevitable announcement of what this edition holds, we will be sure to bring an update. Stay Tuned!

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 5th Year Anniversary Edition Now Available!

If you have been keeping up, Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 5th Year Anniversary Edition a while back. Well, this article is simply a reminder that as of today, the three-disc set is now available just about everywhere games are sold for the PS3, Xbox 360, & PC.

The set of course includes the Game of the Year Edition of Oblivion, but with a bonus DVD with the making of The Elder Scrolls IV and a trailer for Skyrim, a map (which is actually made of a high quality paper), a rebate coupon to save $10 off Skyrim and the guide, and of course the shiny new steelbook case. Being a huge fan of any collector’s edition, I have just picked this one up and I must say I am quite pleased of how it turned out overall as the whole set seems to be well worth the $30 price-tag. If you by chance have never played Oblivion before, this set has about everything you need to get started (except the legendary horse armor) and is in my opinion a must have for any fan of the now 5 year old game.

Today show says that people over 30 shouldn’t play games

6

The Today show confirmed their, and in general, the mainstream media’s, ignorance regarding video games.  But you probably already knew that, huh?

“Do you think it’s okay for men to play video games in their 30s and over?” Today show viewer Elizabeth asked  TV personality Donny Deutsch.

Despite the fact that the median age for gamers is over 37, Deutsch says it’s not okay: “When you’re in your 30s, there should be something more on your mind or attention than video games.”

Kathie Lee Gifford decided to add her unwanted two cents in as well.  Check it out below and then facepalm yourself until your head hurts.

But this is actually interesting, as we have here a clip of one Mr.  Al Roker playing a game on the Today show just a few months ago. Are you saying he is weird?  Thats just offensive and mean Today. Sheesh…

Mortal Kombat Legacy Episode 9 at Comic Con Next Week, Announcement Rumoured

There’s been some confusion amongst some fans of Mortal Kombat: Legacy in the last few months, wondering what the heck is going on with the season finale. So in case you’ve missed out on anything or need to catch up, here’s the story so far:

Remember that awesome web series from Machinima we watched religiously back in April? The debut episode received more than 5 million views in a week! Episodes continued to follow week by week, but episode 9 never showed. Followers of director Kevin Tancharoen’s twitter page instead rather saw this:

and then this…

Since then there hasn’t been an episode released since. Fans have been doing back flips in excitement to see their favorite cyborg-ninjas at Comic-Con and you can’t blame them, they’ve been teased to hell about it! In the debut trailer we saw a variety of footage from 8 of the 9 episodes, however episode 9 has been tightly held under wraps. We saw about 2-3 seconds of footage from the final episode, and that’s it. First we got an awesome look at Sektor:

And then the screen pans to a blurred, unmasked Cyrax as his mask is bout to be placed on him, before it quickly cuts away to the next scene.

At least Kevin Tancharoen left us with this image of Cyrax to drool over:

However last week Shock Till You Drop revealed another sneak of Cyrax, a shot from the episode with what appears to be just seconds later and from the same continuous shot, of Cyrax placing his mask on.

It’s been about three months, but next week Comic-Con takes place between July 21-24, and the season finale starring Cyrax and Sektor is due to premiere at the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Comic-Con panel on Thursday, 21 July between 2-3pm, and these awesome limited edition hotel keys have been issued out as well:

Now while the official word has been that the reason we’ve had to wait to long was due to ‘fine-tuning’, fans have been discussing the possibility the real reason is because they plan to announce something new at Comic Con. If this was the case, the most likely possibility seems to be the series for Blu-Ray and DVD, as Tancharoen has said it would see a release after all the episodes appeared online, and would could with bonus footage such as rehearsal footage. Another possibility discussed is that they may announce a second season at Comic Con. Tancharoen has said for a while he really wanted to do a second season, and would love to include characters such as Kung Lao, Lu Kang, Kabal and Goro in a second season, but it has been unannounced if there will be one or not. Tancharoen has said all episodes of the series would take place either before the first game or after leading up to the squeal, so including Cyrax and Sektor getting automated from their human forms to cyborg forms really makes a good transition between seasons 1 to 2. The other possibility is they may announce taking to to a level beyond internet videos, like a TV series or maybe even what many fans have been begging for: a serious take on a Hollywood Mortal Kombat live-action movie. Creator Ed Boon has even said he’d love for it to happen and have Tancharoen direct it. Another idea is that the fourth DLC ‘mysterious’ character for the Mortal Kombat 2011 game could be revealed at Comic Con as well. Please note all of these possibilities are just theories, and nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Regardless if an announcement will be made or not at Comic Con, it has been confirmed that episode 9 will debut there next week, so at least we know we’re going to see something awesome! Expect many of our questions to receive answers next Thursday.

Lowest scoring Super Mario Bros. run has been broken

Yea, high scores are cool, I guess, you know, if your into that type of thing.  But come on, this is the freakin’ future and new ideas are where we as gamers and humans thrive.  NotEntirelySure, a YouTube user, has recently broken the lowest possible score record in Super Mario Bros.  Surprisingly, to achieve a low score, you must be a very skilled person with fast reflexes and have a complex plan to perform the worst as possible. Check out the video below for proof.  The user claims that this is legitimate gameplay and it certainly appears that he is telling the truth.  Looks pretty awesome, yea?

Newest table for Pinball FX2 is: Ms. ‘Splosion Man

“When the Balls Touch They Splode.”

And with that, Zen Studios and Twisted Pixel announced that they would be combining their excellent franchises.  A Ms. ‘Splosion Man pinball table will be coming to Pinball FX2 very soon, although the exact release date was not announced.  In return, Twisted Pixel has robbed some Pinball FX2 assets and built a pinball table in an arcade area of Ms. ‘Splosion Man, which releases on the 13 of this month.

“We told the Twisted Pixel crew we were going to break in and steal all the Ms. Splosion Man stuff so we could make a pinball table for them. We put our super stealth ZEN sniper on the project and what can I say, mission accomplished,” boasts Mel Kirk, ZEN Studios Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations.

“Turns out, sploding is a GREAT mechanic on a pinball table and the evil geniuses at ZEN took the idea and ran with it!” explains Twisted Pixel CEO Michael Wilford. “As big fans of pinball in general, we proudly acknowledge ZEN Studios as the masters of virtual pinball. In Ms. Splosion Man there is an arcade room in the world map where players can find a virtual Pinball FX2 table where you can dive right into the hot XBLA pinball action directly.”

One Piece Collection 10 Review

Overview:
When comes to trilogys or three-parters, I find it to be common that the second episode of the three is the most interesting. This being that the second contains all of the bombast and build-up to the big conclusion whilst riding the waves of the introduction. With the third usually struggling to satisfy the hype it built for itself and with the first being all introduction.

Now, the Alabasta story arc of One Piece can be considered a three-parter, with the Ace Arrival section being introduction to the desert kingdom of Alabasta, the Baroque Works Assault section being the build up and full of action and then we have the Crocodiles Downfall section which resoundingly breaks the tradition of trilogys and proves itself to be a worthy and deserved conclusion to the epic story arc. It is just the kind of thing One Piece is brilliant at, breaking all the preconceptions attached to television, anime and even story telling itself.

Story:
Collection 10 as aforementioned features the conclusion to the Alabasta arc. With all the Straw-hats and Baroque Works members going head to head we get some amazing fights, humour and most of all – heart.

Anyone who has watched One Piece for a decent amount of time will undoubtedly tell you that if there is one thing One Piece has that other anime don’t, that one thing is heart. There is so much spirit and hope in these characters, particularly the Straw-Hat Pirates. In the face of insurmountable odds, they never shy away, because they are good people, who have a more greater sense of justice than nearly every other character in the whole show. Heck, they will probably never find the One Piece because they are so busy helping everyone they meet.

The strength of these characters hearts is what holds this show together and has created what is without a doubt one of the greatest television experiences, worldwide, ever. There was recently a documentary that aired in Japan which detailed the effects One Piece has had on the nation of Japan and even the world. If you have yet to see that documentary, do yourself a favour and google it, it’s astonishing the effect this series has had on people. The documentary features one chilling moment when a man opens up about trying to commit suicide, but having left his television on so that his neighbours would not hear what he was doing, the opening theme of One Piece began to play. The theme song which speaks of hopes and dreams drove him away from suicide and back to life. That is the effect this series has, but I’m going off on a tangent here.

The story of collection 10, concludes the Alabasta arc in the most satisfying way possible. Even surpassing the second part of the arc. Unfortunately a huge plot-twist was spoiled in the new opening theme song’s video. So if you do not want to have the biggest plot-twist of the arc spoiled, refrain from watching the Hikari E opening video.

There was so many amazing moments this collection that to list them all would take me more time then to write this review, but the ones I think are most worth mentioning are Vivi’s blood-curtling cry for her people to stop fighting in what is one of the most chilling performances I have seen in a long time from this type of anime. Kudos to Caitlin Glass for that brilliant performance which I believe even surpassed the original japanese voice actress. Another moment worth mentioning was Luffy’s final battle with Crocodile, the seemingly unbeatable opponent. I will say this though, I wonder if this was a reference to Spartacus, the man who led an army of slaves against the corrupt Roman Republic. If this was not a reference to Spartacus, I’d be rather surprised. Hell there is even a blood and sands reference thrown in.

Overall, the story was above the par it had set itself and surpassed the realms of possibility. The only let-down was the spoiler in the opening theme which is a damn shame, because without that, this would have gotten a perfect score like the last collection.

Characters:
As usual the characters were all on their A-game. We had stand-out performances from Luffy, who proved once again that he is the most badass shonen hero of all time. This guy can really take a hit. As that old Chumbawumba song goes “I get knocked down, but I get up again, you’re never gonna keep me down!”, that right there perfectly captures Luffy’s character in a nutshell. No matter how many times he gets knocked down, he will always get right back up, fists flying and gritting his teeth.

The other huge stand-out was Vivi, who has one of the greatest moments the series has produced thus far, in her desperate plea to her people. Alongside Vivi was Pell. Perhaps the best of the Alabasta characters. A man who stands by his Kingdom until the very end, absolutely noble to the bone and above all, he truly cares for his country and it’s people. It is sad to see many of them go as the Straw-Hats set sail for new advenutres at the end of the collection, however someone you wouldn’t expect does stick around.

Artwork:
The art and animation department did wonders here, with so much amazing imagery, you begin to wonder whether what your watching is a movie. The quality is that high. Many of the fighting sequences were so well animated, they may very well have had a movie budget, particularly Luffy’s final battle with Crocodile. That was amazingly animated and the moment when Luffy’s arm travels through Crocodile’s sand whilst being torn apart was a brilliant piece of animation. There is little else to say other than it was simply astonishing in all senses of the term.

Audio:
There was a moment after the battle, when a familiar tune begins to play. That familar tune was the first opening song, “We Are” as sung by Vic Mignogna. It was so perfect for that moment and made it rise to an even higher echelon of excellence, by creating the perfect emotion and feel for that victorious moment. The war was won and that song right there in that moment was absolutely perfect in every way.

All the voice actors and actress did an amazing job with this collection each of them raising there game from A to A++. We had so many amazing character moments and everyone had a chance to flaunt their acting talent. It is sad to see many of them go, as so many of them were just darn good actors and actresses. Heres hoping some of them return in other roles, I know I want to see more of Caitlin Glass, thats for sure.

Special Features:
We have some great special features as per usual with the One Piece releases, with a brilliant commentary featuring, Christophr Sabat (Roronoa Zoro) and Brett Weaver (Das Bones aka. Mr. 1) on episode 119, “Secret of Powerful Swordplay! The Ability to Cut Steel and The Rhythm Things Have”, which provides brilliant insight into the episode itself and what both actors think of their characters and the events of the current arc. Chris Sabat as usual is particularly humourous on this commentary.

Madman’s usual plethora of trailers for their other releases which are plentyful and worth a watch. Also their is a reversible cover which is quite nice if you are into reversing your cover, for whatever reason.

Conclusion:
One Piece Collection 10 features 325 minutes of what wouldn’t to far a stretch to call some of the greatest things you can find on television. One Piece is doing great things for both anime and television and as I stated earlier if it weren’t for a spoiler in the opening theme’s video this would be a 10 out of 10. But that is not to say what was here wasn’t golden in itself. This is without a doubt one of Madman’s best releases yet and should not be missed out on.

I give One Piece Collection 10:

Marvel vs Capcom series to get “Fantastic News” at Comic-Con

Ryota Niitsuma has decided to tease fans of Marvel vs Capcom by announcing that they will be “fantastic news” for the Marvel vs Capcom series during Comic-Con next week. Comic-Con will take place in San Diego and although not many game announcements really come out of the event, there are usually always one or two interesting things revealed.

The panel that will contain this supposed “fantastic news” will take place on Saturday morning at 11 AM. Now Capcom has yet to announce anything for MvC3 or any other games in a long time. What do you think this news could be? Perhaps a new game announcement or maybe a port of the Marvel vs Capcom series onto the 3DS or for PS Vita? We’ll know more next Saturday.

Indiecity- Indie Developers Haven

I was reading about this and thought it was fantastic idea so i thought i would share it with you all. Indiecity is a PC portal setup by Blitz games specifically designed for indie developers to showcase their creativity and innovative gaming ideas. The only rule is no mainstream games are allowed on site. Anyone can upload a game or part of a game to Indiecity where the community review system will give valuable information back to the developer as well as rank it against everyone elses creations. The community are the ones who ultimately decide whether the game is deemed worthy of falling within the guidelines of the site.

Project lead Chris Swan has commented in an interview with Eurogamer that he is trying to create a destination where developers can go that shows off the creativity and diversity of what gaming can do. He goes on to have a jab at the current state of the market referring to todays market as full of recycled games that are far from pushing boundaries when it comes to innovation. Swan seems more intent on a niche based system that provides something for everyone, something that pushes conventional mainstream idealogy.

Developers have a lot of control over their IP, and are able to set their own prices. So with 1200 or so already on board this is looking very exciting, a bit like a breeding ground of unfound talent just waiting to burst onto the scene. Swan describes the site as the Wild West of Indie sites where pretty much anything goes. Developers have the control over how much of the game they upload, allowing them to get valuable commuity feedback before fine tuning their games or adding/deleting characters and levels. Noting the diversity within the developer community, Swan is quick to denounce that all indie devs are poor and living in squalor. He wants Indiecity to provide Indie devs to actually make a living from their creations rather than just have them sitting on a HDD never to be seen.

For gamers, Indiecity offers badges, achievements and points for participating on forums, writing reviews and generally being helpful to others by being active in the commnunity. Eventually the site hopes to implement a system that would allow users to swap their points in for discounts on games and merchandise. Reading through others comments as i always do, there is mention of a 15-25% sale fee but this is no different to Steam another online sellers of mainstream commercial games. Personally i think this is an awesome idea and i hope it takes off as it seems a great learning tool for gamers and developers alike.
