AnimEigo’s Kickstarter for ‘Otaku no Video’ Successfully Funded, First Stretch Goal Met

In just 13-and-a-half hours, the Kickstarter for AnimEigo’s Otaku no Video Otaking Edition was successfully funded. An identical campaign has since launched on Indiegogo so that people can make a pledge through PayPal.

The first stretch goal, the “Cover Up(grade)”, has been reached, so Mr. Sonoda will create two brand new colour illustrations of Otaku no Video. Due to the fact that the ratio of people choosing premium editions over the basic edition is roughly 4:1, meaning that less people are backing the crowd-funding campaign than originally expected, the minimum number of pledges for some of the other stretch goals has been reduced. The Mini-Manga stretch goal now only needs 1,250 backers, and the minimum number of backers for the “Today is a Good Day to Subtitle” stretch goal has been significantly reduced to just 1,500.

The “Comically Awesome” goal will remain the same due to the costs involved. There will also be new stretch goals, the first of which is “Comprehensible Commentary”. This will be an English-language commentary track featuring author and anime historian Gilles Poitras.

Crowd-production team members are already beginning work on reviewing the subtitles and translating the commentary. Finally, Robert Woodhead revealed AnimEigo’s next project: the Riding Bean High Octane Edition, which will launch this summer.

Bad JuJu Games, Desura and Indie Royale Parent Company Files for Bankruptcy

desura-logo-001

Things have not been going well for Bad JuJu Games as of late. Several weeks ago, the company had to address concerns that developers were not being paid their share of the sales. The company blamed the issues on a troublesome transition that saw Bad JuJu Games purchase popular indie game distribution service Desura and Indie Royale from Linden Labs and Bad JuJu Games’ CEO being hospitalized.

Today, Lisa Morrison, Head of Developer Relations, reported that employees have been locked out of their email accounts via Twitter.

Graeme Boxall of Indie Royale made a tweeted news that Bad JuJu Games has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and that the company is not speaking to him according to advice by the company’s legal counsel.

Bad JuJu Games and Desura has not made any public announcement in regards to the bankruptcy. The future is unclear right now whether or not developers will be able to see any of their money or what will happen to Desura.

2K and Gearbox Software has released the listing of game modes and features of their upcoming MOBA/shooter mashup Battleborn. The game will launch with 25 unique heroes, a story mode, and three multiplayer modes.

The game features a persistent leveling system that will have players and hero leveling up together. Player levels will unlock badges, titles, and global loot as they gain commander levels. Additionally each hero can level up from 1-10, allowing for changes in their skill tree and providing some extra character skins.

Battleborn’s story mode can be played either single player or cooperatively in both split screen or online. Story mode missions can be played in any order and replayed for better loot.

Competitive multiplayer will pit two teams of five against each other in three objective based modes. Incursion is the traditional MOBA game mode with players defending their base from enemy minions while they attempt to push their minions into the enemy base. Devastation will see players fighting over capture points on the map. Meltdown is a slight twist on Incursion, with teams attempting to protect their minions, with points scored for every friendly minion who is able to toss itself into the incinerator in the centre of the map.

Honestly, I saw this coming as most everyone did.

Sweet Tooth Pulls in to Rocket League; New Trailer Emerges

rocket-league-sweet-tooth-01

Rocket League is a title you should staple to your tongue if you own a PS4/PC and love insanity this summer. The reason why I say this is that developer Psyonix are bringing the game to both platforms, and have just made the deal sweeter. Straight from Twisted Metal, Sweet Tooth will be making a cameo as a playable character, meaning you can use that ten billion other combinations promised within the game’s customization on other cars, as we know Sweet Tooth would have certainly been #1 on the to-do list for just about everybody.

Now some people may not still be aware of this little soccer-car mashup, but check out some information below to get acquainted quickly:

Rocket League Key Features Include:
  • New Season Mode: Players now can enjoy a full single-player experience with Season mode, bolstered by extensive vehicle customizations, unlockable items, multiple arenas, and more.
  • Fully Upgraded Online, Local and Splitscreen Multiplayer Modes: Fans of the original will love the returning options for two- to four-player competition, from on-the-couch split-screen competition to the robust online play.
  • Team-focused Gameplay: Rocket League‘s team-oriented play compels gamers to learn short- and long-term tactics and strategies to stay in the game, challenge their friends, and stay atop the monthly leaderboards.
  • Physics-driven Vehicle Interactions: Built with rocket-equipped vehicles capable of aerial attacks, passes and shots, and physics-driven ball action, Rocket League is a wild, visceral action-sports experience.
  • Content Overload: Rocket League builds upon its predecessor with a healthy array of completely new unlockable vehicles, arenas, more than 100 customization items, and other surprises.
  • Dedicated Gameplay Servers: Super-smooth online gameplay guarantees an even better Rocket-Powered Battle-Car experience.
  • Broadcast-Quality Replays: Gamers can play with, stylize, and create the ultimate replay of entire games with the new replay system. Fast forward, rewind, or view the action from anywhere in the arena!

Rocket League is a futuristic action-sports game where players pilot rocket-powered vehicles in an enhanced version of soccer by driving their vehicles into the ball and other players in a variety of arenas. Rocket League uses an advanced physics system to simulate realistic interactions between cars and the ball, where mass and momentum determine how hard balls and cars hit each other, creating a unique and visceral playing experience.

Rocket League reminds me of the creations we used to see on Forge in Halo 3, and that is a compliment as it takes a very creative mind to come up with such a unique concept. You’re looking at the sleeper hit of the summer, folks – so check out Rocket League’s new trailer below and get ready to snag a purchase come July 7th.
