Focus Home Interactive Announces Contrast

contrast-screenshot-01
Contrast, a game of light and shadows was one of the crowning jewels at this year’s PAX East. It was originally slated as a PC exclusive but today Focus Home Interactive and Compulsion Games have announced that through their publishing partnership, Contrast will now also find its way to PSN and XBLA before the end of the year.

Focus Home Interactive are a well known global publisher, having been responsible for bringing us the Sherlock Holmes series of games on PC, as well as the Game of Thrones video game last year. The company is thrilled to have partnered with Compulsion Games on Contrast, with Cédric Lagarrigue, CEO of Focus Home Interactive stating that:

CONTRAST is a very special project with its atmosphere, artistic direction and innovative gameplay and we knew that from the moment we saw the game… We are delighted to be partnering with Compulsion Games and believe this project to be one of the biggest indie surprises of the year.

Contrast is set in a 1920s film-noir Paris backdrop where you play as Dawn, the imaginary friend of a little girl named Didi. Like the children who create them every imaginary friend is special and unique and Dawn is no exception. Dawn has the mysterious ability to transcend dimensions and quite literally enter the shadows. This allows for a unique gameplay experience as players are tasked with manipulating light sources and objects in the world to create different placement, depth, height and weight to allow Dawn to solve the puzzles and traverse the shadows.

Focus Home Interactive tells us that the game will have a strong atmosphere built with a breathtaking visual style and accompanied by a cast of professional voice actors and a cabaret soundtrack that will pull players into Didi’s world, where with Dawn’s help she will unravel a web of secrets through the eyes of a child.

dkc-returns-01

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D has made it’s debut on the 3DS today, and brings less waggle and more gameplay to those that love the big ape. Features such as “New Mode” and a new control scheme have also appeared, making this seem to be the definitive way to play the game.

Here are some more details:

To enhance Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for portable play, a ‘New Mode’ has been added to the game. In New Mode, players have access to new items and gameplay features, including Donkey and Diddy Kong having three hearts each (instead of two in ‘Original Mode’), making things a little easier for those new to the franchise. The helpful items in New Mode include portable “DK Barrels”, which players can use at any time to have access to Diddy Kong; “Green Balloons”, used to protect Donkey and Diddy Kong from falling off a cliff or ledge; and “Crash Guards”, which make players temporarily invincible in rocket barrel or mine cart areas. Fans can also play in ‘Original Mode’ to experience the game as it was originally designed.
Also exclusive to Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D are eight challenging new levels located within the all-new ninth world, Cloud, which are unlocked after players complete the main game. Plus, for those looking to conquer Donkey Kong Island with a friend, two players that both own a copy of the game can also connect via local wireless to team up as Donkey and Diddy Kong for some barrel-blasting multiplayer action.

May 25th marks the release date, so if you want to add a guaranteed gem in quality, pick up Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D today (or tomorrow in other regions. You know, go bananas and such. Check out a few extra screens down below.

Company of Heroes 2 Goes Personal in Singleplayer Trailer

company-of-heroes-2-story-trailer-01

A surprising new story trailer has been released for Company of Heroes 2, introducing the characters of the real-time strategy game for the PC. The trailer depicts the views of a war-weary Russian soldier in a theatre of war deemed as the largest and most brutal in human history.

In light of all the multiplayer coverage Relic has showcased over the last few months, we almost forgot they make some damn good singleplayer stories too as we saw in its predecessor and the Dawn of War series.

Set in 1941, Company of Heroes 2 covers the rarely depicted Eastern Front of World War II as Nazi Germany launches Operation Barbarossa upon the Soviet Union, which saw well over 14 million military casualties after four years of fighting.

Check out the trailer below for a first glimpse of the game’s campaign. Come June 25, we’ll see whether they can provide a worthy, personal perspective of a Soviet Red Army soldier in a cold and pragmatic conflict.

SEGA have recently unveiled a Red Star Edition of the game, containing extra digital content, available to pre-order now.

Star Trek ‘Into the Music’, World Reacts to Into Darkness

Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-Poster-02
Star Trek Into Darkness has hit theatres worldwide, and is being extremely well received critically (especially from fans), including by us.

Now you can see that reception in the following ‘World Reaction’ featurette released by Paramount, which showcases the stars of the film as they traveled around the world to the numerous international premieres where Trekkies and newbies to the franchise alike expressed their being impressed.

Along with that clip, viewable directly below, another featurette entitled ‘Into the Music’ details composer Michael Giacchino’s process in creating the score for the movie. Giacchino has worked on almost all of Bad Robot‘s projects, in TV and Cinema. That video is embedded at the bottom of this article.
