999 released on iOS without puzzles in Japan

999-ios-release

Back when it was released in 2010 on the Nintendo DS, 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors was one of the must own games for the system and a couple of years later when it’s sequel, Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward was released, it proved to be a must own on the 3DS and Vita.

Today the Japanese developer of the game Spike-Chunsoft chose to release an iOS version of the game for Japan but there is a catch here. The iOS version of 999 has removed all aspects of the game’s puzzle sequences. Instead the game focuses only on the visual novel storyline and decisions you make throughout the game to reach alternate endings.

The game has also been given some revamped graphics, upgraded music and a flowchart similar to Virtue’s Last Reward, but half of the enjoyment from the game were the puzzles. It is currently unknown if this iOS port will be brought onto the English iTunes store by Aksys Games but if it is, be prepared for a watered down experience.

Both trailers, which can be seen below, show off the characters in battle and a sampling of their English voice work. As for the characters themselves, Leia is the main character Jude’s childhood friend and is a nurse who works at his family’s clinic while Rowen works as a butler to the Schall family.

Fuse – An Explosive New Game

fuse-screen-2

Insomniac Games, developers of classic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance is back with a brand new explosive game called Fuse.

The third person shooter stars four misfits brought together as clean up crew called Overstrike 9. They specialize in cleaning up messes that need a specific skillset that the average janitor just doesn’t have, the type that involves neutralizing enemies that shoot back.

The four members come from four wildly different backgrounds: Dalton the mercenary, Naya the assassin, Izzy the hacker, and Jacob detective. Each character carries a special fuse weapon and has access to a unique skill tree. Players are able to traverse the environment, like climbing walls and hanging from ledges, to travel or to gain the tactical advantage in combat

The game can be played alone on the single player campaign or with up to three friends on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. In single player, gamers can “leap” between characters, allowing them to control the best character for the job. In multiplayer, gamers can play the co-op campaign or fight it out against the hordes in Echelon mode. Echelon mode provides a deadly new twist on the classic horde mode gameplay by givings players a variety of objectives that must be completed. Each character’s skill tree and experience is seamlessly carried across all three modes of play.

Read our hands on preview with Fuse and our interview with Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price for more information about Fuse.

Fuse is available now in stores across Australia for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Check out the demo on Xbox Live and PlayStation at Insomniac Games’ official site.

Submitting the necessary paperwork back on May 27th, 2003, The Behemoth has come forward making 3 incredibly well received games and what better way to honor their 10th Anniversary than to do something for their fans. This week The Behemoth is doing a few special activities to engage with their fans both inside and outside of their newest game release BattleBlock Theater (review HERE) from publisher Microsoft Studios.

The more artistically inclined fans can show their appreciation and earn some swag for it in a fan art contest they are running until May 30th at 6PM PST. Distance Steam Greenlight Approved

Distance-screenshot-02

Distance, an in-development PC action survival racer from Refract Studios which mixes intense arcade racing action with an open, explorable and atmospheric world, was approved for Steam release via Greenlight recently. Funded through Kickstarter, the project is currently in the Pre-Alpha stage of development.

The player gains control of a unique, futuristic vehicle that can boost, jump, and even fly around the neo-apocalyptic cities that constitute the tracks. However, the environment appears to be more than just for show, as players will also be able to uncover pieces of the world’s history as they progress. Refract’s Team Nitronic summarized this title’s creative origins and direction in their Greenlight press release:  “In short, it’s Trials Evolution + Rush 2049 + Halo + Tron: Legacy.”

The gameplay will be fast, unpredictable and will certainly require reflexes. Obstacles decorate every route and adaptability is an absolute must for players here. Instead of the traditional racing model of laps on a loop, players must simply make it to the end, by any means, in the quickest time. Players are encouraged to make use of their vehicles’ abilities, such as taking a short-cut via the side of a skyscraper, as you do.  Multiplayer will be available with this one and makes for a very neat and intriguing package.

The game is a self-termed ‘spiritual successor’ (a nod to System Shock, of which I approve) to Team Nitronic’s multi-award winning title Nitronic Rush, which was created with the help of eight others during the team’s attendance at DigiPen Institute of Technology. Awards were given based on Nitronic Rush’s innovative mechanics, visual style, audio design, and atmosphere.

Features Will Include:

  • Multiplayer: LAN, Online, and Split-Screen in a variety of modes, such as Classic Race, Tag, Capture The Flag, Stunt, and more.
  • Level Editor and Modding Tools: A powerful, user-friendly in-game level editor. A strong focus will also be placed on modder support.
  • Exploration: Picking up from where Nitronic Rush left off, explore the signature environments Team Nitronic is known for, but in greater depth than ever before.
  • Visuals and Atmosphere: Using the Unity engine (whereas Nitronic Rush was built from scratch) allows for more visual fine tuning, creating a unique look to complement a unique world.
  • Dynamic Soundtrack: A new dynamic, ambient/electro soundtrack courtesy of Jordan (aka TORCHT) – who composed the soundtrack for Nitronic Rush,
  • Controller support: Support for Xbox 360™ controllers, keyboard, steering wheels and various other gamepad types, alongside the offering of re-mappable key configurations.
  • Supported Platforms: Distance will be released for Windows, Mac, and Linux Platforms simultaneously.

Check out the latest Pre-Alpha gameplay teaser below. Also, check out the developer’s Twitter and Facebook for updates.
