OFFICAL PRESS RELEASE

Award-winning developers set their sights on re-imagining the suspense, tension and fear of one of gaming’s most beloved franchises only on Xbox 360 and Windows PC

2K Games announced today that XCOM®, the re-imagining of one of gaming’s most storied and beloved franchises, is currently in development at 2K Marin, the studio behind the multi-million unit selling BioShock® 2. Currently in development exclusively for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC, XCOM combines the strategic core of the groundbreaking franchise with a suspense-filled narrative and distills it into a tense and unique first-person shooter experience.

“With BioShock 2, the team at 2K Marin proved themselves as masters of first-person, suspenseful storytelling, and with XCOM they will re-imagine and expand the rich lore of this revered franchise,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Players will explore the world of XCOM from an immersive new perspective and experience firsthand the fear and tension of this gripping narrative ride.”

XCOM is the re-imagining of the classic tale of humanity’s struggle against an unknown enemy that puts players directly into the shoes of an FBI agent tasked with identifying and eliminating the growing threat. True to the roots of the franchise, players will be placed in charge of overcoming high-stake odds through risky strategic gambits coupled with heart-stopping combat experiences that pit human ingenuity – and frailty – against a foe beyond comprehension. By setting the game in a first-person perspective, players will be able to feel the tension and fear that comes with combating a faceless enemy that is violently probing and plotting its way into our world.

XCOM is not yet rated by the OFLC. For more information on XCOM please visit www.XCOM.com

Splinter Cell: Conviction started out rocky

So many of you have probably been enjoying your copy of Splinter Cell: Conviction. Amazingly a lot of people have gotten pretty mad at the game already though. Everyone knows that one person who whines about everything and overreacts. Well my friend is just like that, and after playing the second level and the game freezing on him, he got pretty enraged. He persisted and tried again, and again it froze.

Anyone who did a little bit of research knew that this was a problem on the Xbox 360 for those connected to Xbox Live. There was a work around that involved clearing your cache and yada yada, but he wouldn’t listen to me and instead decided to smash his game into a million pieces on the floor.

Don’t worry though, both Xbox Support and an Ubisoft rep have announced that the issue has been fixed. Hopefully none of you broke your game in a fit of rage. Enjoy your [still in one piece] copies.

Dead Rising “Too Japanese”?

Capcom’s Shinsaku Ohara was quoted saying:

“The first Dead Rising was built in a very Japanese style.” “We had some help from America, but basically it was all done in a Japan. We wanted to do it better for a Western audience this time.”

“That’s why we’re working with Blue Castle now. They know what they like – and it’s good to have them come up with ideas and it becomes a back and forth thing. Together, we’ve come up with crazier ideas than we did in the first game. What we didn’t quite manage in Dead Rising 1 was that it still felt too Japanese. We’re much closer to feeling like a Western game with this title.”

“Felt too Japanese”? Except for small bits here and there of Japanese influence, as seen with the servbots and two Japanese survivors, I did not notice any major influences. If anything the best parts of Dead Rising were the crazy out there parts that made almost no sense at all such as the double chainsaw wielding clown.

I really hope that Dead Rising 2 does not lose it’s own personal flavoring now that it has supposedly lost more of it’s apparent Japanese influence. By the way, didn’t anyone else notice how Dead Rising was extremely close to the Dawn of the Dead movie? Right there is complete western influence. I wish that they took the stance of, if it isn’t broken don’t fix it. The only change they do make I hope is that they remove the time constraints that the first game had.
