Majesco Announce Two Titles for the 3DS…

With the 3DS starting to get quite a line-up from Nintendo already, it was only a matter of time before more third-party developers start creating titles for the new portable. Majesco have now threw their hat into the mix with the announcement that they will be publishing two titles for the Nintendo 3DS. The first game announced is Face Kart: Photo Finish which will be a kart racer with the ability to take a photo of the player and put it onto their avatars for their custom 3D racers, billboards and power-ups. This one sounds to me like a blend of Face Pilot (which came out for the DSi last year) and Mario Kart and sounds pretty interesting.

Next up is for all those gamers out there that enjoy raising animals…dead animals anyway. Pet Zombies in 3D lets players reanimate their very own zombies with a range of customizations and then care for (or torment) their pets as they play with them in creepy 3D environments.

Of course with this announcement comes quite a few details on both of these titles comes even more information for each listing both as follows:

Developed by 1st Playable Productions, Pet Zombies in 3D lets players raise their very own decaying human pets by managing their special dietary preferences (brains and the like), bodily maintenance (or lack thereof) and morbid activities needed to keep them happily undead. Players can choose to play with, care for, or even mischievously torment their zombies in creepy locations like cemeteries, evacuated malls or rundown military bases. Each 3D environment is customizable with mix-and-match objects, themed backdrops and even music to best fit each pet zombie’s personality and tastes. Throughout the game, players can discover new zombies to add to their horde and customize them with facial bone deformations, variable decay, clothing and unlockable items. Players will also use the Nintendo 3DS accelerometer controls in various activities, including rolling zombie heads through mazes, and can earn trophies and in-game currency to spend in the Zombie Pet Shop.

Developed by Renegade Kid, Face Kart: Photo Finish lets players tilt and turn the Nintendo 3DS to steer their photo customized speedsters through 20 unique race tracks, as they drift around corners, soar over chasms and speed past the competition. Players use the Nintendo 3DS camera to snap their own picture and then map it onto their avatar, the landscape or even a turbo boost so they can pick up their very own power-ups as they race. Each avatar offers up to one hundred choices in hair, clothing and eyewear, plus cars can also be customized by tuning and tweaking to create the ultimate personalized racer.

I can easily say both have my interest, especially Face Kart: Photo Finish as I am a big fan of Renegade Kid (creators of Dementium 1 & 2 for the DS) and it is great to see such a strong presence of titles being announced this early on. As of now, the only thing we really know about a date is that both will be hitting shelves this fall but as that date grows closer and more news drops, we will be sure to bring it to all of you. I am sure this is just the start for Majesco’s line-up for the 3DS so you can bet that more announcements are sure to come in the future as well.

SEGA issue update on Conduit 2 release

It seems the release date of Conduit 2 in the USA has slipped from its originally planned 15th February distribution to a slightly disappointing new release date of 22nd March, over 1 month after the initially scheduled launch.

Meanwhile, the European release date has been detailed as 18th March, which as you will notice is earlier than the American release – ironic considering if the release hadn’t slipped it would have been in North America a whole before it showed up in Europe and the UK. Moreover, Australia and New Zealand are getting a further day earlier, on 17th March.

In an attempt to soften the blow for US residents, and at the same time whet everyone’s appetites for this Wii shooter shortly before it’s released, SEGA have uploaded a ‘Weapons Trailer’ for the game.

Enjoy!

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance trailer revealed

Perhaps looking to take the award for the most D’s in a title Square Enix has revealed the full name of their upcoming 3DS game revolving around Kingdom Hearts. Titled Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, KH3DDDD, so there we have it. But besides this announcement they have also released a trailer which shows off some very hectic battle scenes and fast paced actions.

We see both Sora and Riku controllable during this trailer and a number of recognizable icons both from Disney and Square Enix. There has yet to be any announcement unfortunately for KH3DDDD outside of Japan however, but considering every release of a Kingdom Hearts game has been making its way to the West so far it is easy to assume that this one will as well.

Agito XIII changed to Final Fantasy Type-0; trailer released

Earlier today Square Enix revealed that the game previously called Final Fantasy Agito XIII would instead be called Final Fantasy Type-0. No actual reasoning was given for the change in the name but it could be that they thought that too many different XIII games were in development and consumers would mix them up, considering we have FFXIII-2 and FFVXIII announced already.

A trailer was also released during this announcement and shows some great PSP gameplay for the action RPG. The game rings of Crisis Core gameplay and takes place in the Fabula Nova Crystalis world. You can catch the trailer below and also catch the announcement of a release window at the end of the trailer, which places the game within a Japanese release date during Summer of this year, with a hopeful Western release later.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer leaked as well

With Square Enix’s 1st Production Department conference held earlier today a slew of new information regarding their games has hit the streets. Or at least a slew of new trailers and videos. We’ve already seen the teaser for FFXIII-2 but there is another XIII that was shown as well. Final Fantasy Versus XIII was also shown off in a seven minute trailer that not only demonstrated the game’s amazing graphics but the battle system as well.

Featuring the tagline “This is a fantasy based on reality.” We are shown main character Noctis who returns to battle against a variety of different opponents. It also appears that the battle system will feature completely real-time fighting which is a step up from what was experienced during FFXII where players did battle in the open-world, but still had to wait to perform certain actions. Unfortunately there has yet to be a release date given for this PS3 exclusive.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailer leaked

Earlier we revealed that Square Enix had announced Final Fanasy XIII-2 which will be, more or less, a direct sequel to FFXIII which released back in March of last year. We have a little bit more information now thanks to the latest press release from Square Enix which reveals that Japan will be getting Final Fantasy XIII-2 sometime this year, while Western gamers will have to wait until next Winter, which means we have well over a year of waiting left before we step into Lightning’s shoes again.

Now I mention Lightning for one very specific reason, she is currently the only character we know that will be making a return. As you can see above and below she has returned in a much different outfit, wearing mostly body armor and a feather cape. Also we see who some of the storyline will be focused around and is being called Lightning’s rival. Also revealed is the game’s advertising tagline: “Why does mankind defy its fate?” Sounds like it will definitely be interesting with Motomu Toriyama, who headed both FFXIII and is now also heading FFXIII-2, saying that this one will surpass FFXIII in every way.

MotoHeroz trailer shows game in action

RedLynx have released the first trailer for the game, showing the game up and running. It is lovely to see the game in motion as, prior to this, we’ve only had static screenshots which haven’t given a great deal away. But now, seeing it run so fluidly only stengthens the suggestion that it will be able to be said in the same breath as the incredible Trials HD which also came from RedLynx. MotoHeroz looks set to be another cracking experience of much the same as you navigate your way through the levels on your vehicle, just like on Trials HD, only this time you’ve got the bonus of up to 4-player co-op.

One of the things that may hit you as you watch trailer is the sound. This is because it features music from the  critically acclaimed composer Petri Alanko, which is looking like just one more reason to buy this game when it is released on WiiWare this year.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Announced

No joke it’s real! Square Enix has just announced Final Fantasy XIII-2, a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3 and Xbox 360 set to be released next winter. I think that the fanboys and girls might of just had their minds blown right now. Final Fantasy XIII was originally released last year in March to a very mixed reception, with some controversially calling it “the worst in the series” and “disappointing” whilst others loved it for its high production values, deep storyline and interesting characters.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is ready to continue the epic storyline introduced in the first. Square Enix is tight lipped about any details at this moment but we do know that a ‘new battle system’ will be introduced, evolving further on XIII’s. I’m guessing that Square Enix is going to ditch the ‘press-one-button’ system of the first game.

Regardless, I’m sure that many FF fans are eagerly anticipating XII-2’s release.

Dead Space 2 is only a few short days away.  To get us all in the mood we have a community site contibutor review of the original Dead Space for PC.

Game Name: Dead Space
Platforms: Pc, Xbox 360, PS3

Developer(s): EA
Genre(s): shooter/survival horror
Release Date: October 14, 2008
ESRB Rating: rated M for Mature (Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Strong Language)

Story
Set in the distant future where mankind is stripping entire planets of resources; you play as Isaac Clarke, an engineer trying to find out what’s wrong with the Planet cracker ship, The Ishimura. Hopefully he will also find his love, Nicole who is somewhere on the ship. The game tasks the player with trying to unravel the mystery of what went wrong and why there are weird shaped humans (necromorphs-they look normal  but with a few extra limbs and minor alterations here and there) trying to eat you. The story is really good and draws you in through the use of audio logs, radio communications and simply being with the person. The story itself is engaging, full of twists and isn’t that hard to follow.

Gameplay
Set in third person, the player controls the camera with the mouse but with the press of a button you switch too aim mode where you can shoot your weapon; however, aim mode causes you to walk and turn slower. The enemies are killed by dealing enough damage to each enemy. The player can use the weapons too cut limbs off in order too deal more damage and sometime simply too weaken them such as cutting off their legs; however, some enemies can only be hurt in certain places. This combat system matched with the cool weapons that all have alternate fire modes which is all really fun, but you can run you can low on ammo pretty quickly (all your ammo, health and other necessities are shown on the back of the character model) and this is where “survival”  part of the game comes in. Outside of combat you try to find more credits, ammo, schematics (for new weapons) and power nodes that add a very engaging aspect to the game. The player can use the nodes too upgrade weapons by linking them in a chain to reach position on a network that change the stats by a few points. There is melee but it is weak along with leaving the player vulnerable but they can knock enemies back so you can shoot them plus the stasis and kinesis modules help to hinder the enemies. The stasis module slows enemies a lot though requires ammo or a recharge at some points, the kinesis is used to levitate objects to pull in far away items or move them.

Lastly there is oxygen levels and zero gravity combat. The oxygen levels appear in some sections where there is no oxygen in the area so the player has to rely on the oxygen tank which is refilled at oxygen stations and in areas with oxygen. Zero gravity combat is like normal combat but with genuine three dimensional gameplay, you can jump from any big flat surface too another and so can the necromorphs so players have to watch not only their back but what’s above them as well making combat a bit more challenging and fun. The things I disliked are the rather small amounts of enemies you face at any one time (you’ll face two or so most of the time but some fun and rather hard encounters can have many more) and the boss battles were fun but the attack patterns were a bit simple. Another problem was that there was no multiplayer and the campaign was actually free roam inside levels but it played out rather linear in some parts, but extra things such as big rooms, some necromorphs and zero gravity combat stopped this from being a major problem. The environments cleverly use layouts too affect the difficulty that make killing the same enemy in different areas even more fun, one other problem is that the game is designed for the player not to move away from the objective path (you can a bit for rooms along the side that might have a few more enemies and more items to take) so the enemies are only found by following the objective path and this means the game plays out completely linear and apart from one distraction (I won’t spoil what it is) you really do only complete the story and that is it.

Audio & Graphics
Dead space looks great, even on none super powered pc’s. While the environments can be a little repetitive they are still nice and none of them are ever exactly the same but the camera gives you a really good view and it works really well. The audio is good and the voice acting is definitely great (not stand out of the crowd great but very immersive great), the music and sound effects really do make it creepy and have you on edge.

Overview
I finished the game in only 14 hours (it wasn’t a speed run, I tried to pick up every object and get everything) and wasn’t satisfied so I completed it again but it was fun and had me hooked right from the start with some very inventive ideas and great story that really hook the player. One of my favorite single player only games and now that it’s in EA’s value games range it is very cheap for pc, if you like blood, epic guns a good story then don’t wait for number two, get this first.

Pros: great story, awesome guns, looks good and gory

Cons: single player only and nothing to do but follow the story to where it takes you, a bit short for a full game

Game Rating:
it really is just one story mode designed for one play through but a really good one at that.
