Hotaru-no-Nikki-screenshot- (6)

Nippon Ichi Software has released the first trailer for Hotoru no Nikki, also known as Firefly’s Diary in English, and although this trailer doesn’t feature much gameplay it does give us a glimpse at how the game will look.

The story takes place in the year 9999 on December 31st and this game is not a strategy RPG which is what Nippon Ichi is known for but it is instead a game where players will control a firefly and try to lead a girl named Mion out of danger. It is set to be released on June 19th for the PlayStation Vita in Japan and might get localized by NIS America sometime in the future.

Non Non Biyori Season Two Announced

non-non-biyori-screenshot-01

Fans of the comedy anime Non Non Biyori will be happy to hear some unlikely news about the anime and that news happens to be that the anime is getting a second season. Recently the official Twitter account for the anime announced that a second season had been green-lit, though currently no details as to when that second season will air have been revealed.

As for the first season, Sentai Filmworks licensed it for home release in the West but have yet to announce a release date. The reason I said that this news seemed unlikely is because despite being a cute little comedy, only occasionally do series such as this manage to pull in a second season but thankfully it seems that there will be more nyanpasu in the future.

Etherium-screenshot-03

Focus Home Interactive and Tindalos Interactive (Stellar Impact) pulled the curtains back on the final two races in the upcoming RTS Etherium. The first trailer took a look at the human faction called the Consortium. The new trailer entitled “War Begins” looks at the Vectides and the Intari factions. All three factions duke it out in two newly revealed planets, the icy Arctis and the volcanic Pilo, in the new trailer.

Etherium is an upcoming RTS that will pit three factions against each other for control of the precious resource called etherium. 2K and Gearbox Announces Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

What do you call a prequel to the latest game in the series that also happens to be a sequel to the first game? A pre-sequel apparently, and 2K and Gearbox have announced today that’s exactly the addition they are making to the Borderlands universe with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The game takes place in-between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2, showcasing Handsome Jack’s transformation into the ruthless tyrant fans loved to hate in Borderlands 2 and also allowing players to fight on the other side as they contribute to the rise of the Hyperion Corporation.

The Pre-Seqeuel will continue the franchise’s tradition of co-op gameplay, allowing up to four players to experience low-gravity, shoot ‘n’ loot gameplay on Pandora’s moon. The game will also feature four new playable character classes armed with powerful laser and icy Cryo weapons. These are Nisha the Lawbringer, Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer and Claptrap the Fragtrap.  An array of new enemies to destroy will also be present.

“Gearbox has entrusted 2K Australia with the co-development of their award-winning franchise and we are committed to delivering an all-new shoot ‘n’ loot experience that fans will love,” concluded Tony Lawrence, general manager of 2K Australia. “Fans will see for themselves at PAX East that there’s nothing quite like moon jumping in a low-gravity gunfight, completely freezing a moon bandit with one of the new Cryo weapons, and then shattering him into little pieces that float off into space. It’s pretty epic.”

The marketing team saw fit to put in a TLDR which basically read “Borderlands in space, jetpacks, lasers, freeze-rays. Plus you get to play as Claptrap and it’s being co-developed by the guys at 2K Australia”. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available in Australia and New Zealand (and we assume everywhere else) come Spring 2014 on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC (sorry next gen fans). You can check out the games first trailer below, which is more of a developer explanation but still shows off some great footage and some behind the scenes details as well.

The-Evil-Within-screenshot- (1)

For the last few years fans of the survival horror genre have had to turn to the indie scene to get their fix because outside of an odd release here and there, very few survival horror games have been released on consoles lately. Well if this trailer is anything to go by, The Evil Within is going to be the game that fans have been waiting for.

From the mind of Shinji Mikami, this latest trailer for The Evil Within features all of the grotesque and scary monsters that fans have come to expect from the man. But don’t take my word for it, check it out below and be sure to keep an eye out for the game when it is released by Bethesda on August 26th in North America, August 28th in Australia and August 29th in Europe.

Despite Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure hitting GOG and Steam on April 22nd for the PC and Mac, it seems like Atlus and Big Finish Games want to get their launch trailer out of the way with plenty of time for people to still put some money down on pre-ordering the title.

As such, you can check out the launch trailer for Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure below, which talks about how players will step into the shoes of Tex Murphy, a PI who has lost seven years of his life and must not only find out what happened to him but also put a stop to a dangerous plan.

Indie MMO Ascent: The Space Game Lands on Desura Seeking Steam Greenlight Votes

Indie MMO Ascent: The Space Game Lands on Desura Seeking Steam Greenlight Votes

200 Billion Star Systems, Infinite Possibilities

Melbourne, Australia – April 9, 2014 – Ascent: The Space Game, an ambitious MMO/space simulator hybrid for PC and Mac, can now be downloaded from Desura! Steam users are also encouraged to support the game on Steam Greenlight.

Ascent sports a mind-boggling 200 billion star systems and allows players to build and customize their own ships, colonize faraway worlds, battle other players for currency and resources, mine asteroids, trade, and much more. Interested players can view the brand new trailer or try Ascent by visiting the game’s website.

Although Ascent: The Space Game made its Steam Greenlight debut in November, much has changed since then—thanks to full-time development . . . and very little sleep! The latest updates to Ascent’s many systems (graphics, gameplay, interface) can be viewed here.

“Space is far from being ‘the final frontier’; it’s just the beginning,” says James Hicks, founder and CEO of Fluffy Kitten Studios. “Technology has allowed me to build a massive world literally on my own—an entire universe filled with 200 billion stars, planets, space stations, and other celestial bodies. We need Steam users to help us bring Ascent to Steam Early Access, which is the best way to introduce a whole new audience to the game’s unique take on space exploration.”

Ascent tells the story of a space-faring civilization that has lost it all to greed. Bank collapses led to economic disasters—a chain reaction of loss and despair that eventually took out every government, nation . . . and virtually all colonized systems. Wars have destroyed everything else. Players are tasked with rebuilding humanity’s place among the stars—beginning with the eight systems that remain connected to each other through stargates.

The game’s two gameplay modes are roughly divided between “Season 1” and “Season 2.” The former is more trade-oriented: Players are tasked with rebuilding business empires and attempting to restore order to the human race. Priorities include food and raw materials. In contrast, Season 2 features ship-to-ship (PvE) combat as the player is recruited by the last remnant of the military (United Nations Combined Arms [UNCA]) to help protect the wealthy Janus Merchant Cabal against a pirate syndicate.

Ascent is free to download and play, doesn’t require a subscription, and includes limited in-game purchases.

New Features

  • Terrain engine: Earth-sized planets with detailed terrain, and new ocean and land shaders that look more realistic on high-end systems.
  • EVA (extra-vehicular activity): Ability to land on planets and explore the terrain. Players can also take soil samples which can be later analyzed onboard. The ship’s computer will tell players about the mineral composition and agricultural prospects.
  • Core sampling: Helps players understand what can be mined or farmed on any particular planet or moon, including an estimate on yields.

Key Features

  • Real-time space combat: Fighter-to-fighter dogfighting that scales up to big ship broadside duels.
  • 11 classes and 12 ships: Players can choose from a large number of ship designs, which will eventually increase to 18—from cargo holds of roughly 10 tons to 1.3 million or more.
  • Farming and mining on planet surfaces: Players can build their own planetary bases for resource harvesting. “City simulation”-style play.
  • Personal starbase construction: Players can construct and customize their own starbases, which become a home in space. Starbases are also the center for heavy zero-g manufacturing and research.
  • Trading: Dynamic local NPC markets and player-to-player global markets.
  • Dynamic NPC mission system: Combat, trade (supply/demand), passenger transport, courier, and salvage missions.
  • Asteroid mining: Manual control of ship and axial mining beam based on player/character skill.
  • Research: Blueprint fragments attainable from salvage missions allow players to research forgotten (and new) ships and components. Building enhancements can also be researched.
  • Manufacturing: Every ship, weapon, and utility module in the game may be manufactured by players and sold—or used to customize their ships through custom paint schemes.
  • Gas giant harvesting: Because sometimes players need resources to survive (like hydrogen and oxygen)!
  • Expansive universe: More than 200 billion solar systems (yes, that’s two zeroes)! The developer is currently adding planetary settlement and starbase construction features to these new systems.
