Symphony of War: The Mandate Unveils Battle Orchestrator

The-Mandate-Concept-art-01

Have you ever dreamed of captaining a starship? Does taking up arms in defence of a Galactic Empire make you smile? Do you yearn for a simpler time when Boyars were Boyars and the serfs knew their place? Then rejoice for the end is near and The Mandate is coming.

I have been watching with great interest the development of Perihelion Interactive’s sandbox sci-fi Strategy-RPGThe Mandate, ever since it popped up on my game development radar in a Steam Greenlight. Now, with a new development video released and shown below, I have the perfect excuse to finally bring this game to your attentions. The development video showcases the in-game interface players will be able to use in planning out their deep space engagements and highlights the strategic options players will have in planning out battle strategies in a 3-dimensional environment. The video also displays the in-game capabilities of the ‘Unity’ engine, but I have been informed in no uncertain terms that the gameplay footage is not representative of final product in terms of ship movement, weapons firing, and pacing etc.

The-Mandate-Concept-art-02The true strength of The Mandate lies not in the steel of her ships or the barrels of their guns, but rather in the sheer scope that this game intends to bring to its audience. Perihelion is seeking to craft a unique Dystopian universe which is ruled over by an inter-stellar empire inspired by the Russian Empire (TSARS. IN. SPAAAACE!- A reference which might be a bit dated for some of you…). They aim to allow the player to interact with this universe in a dynamic and fluid manner as the captain of a starship. This is role which will carry responsibility as various decisions made by the player will have a wider repercussion throughout the galaxy.

The Mandate does not intend to push you out into the empty void alone and the player character’s ship will be manned by hundreds of NPCs, with officers that can be directly interacted with. In this manner, the player will be able to put a face to the otherwise interchangeable mass of engineers and redshirts which make up the ship’s crew and experience some good, old-fashioned, space opera drama. Just as quickly however, these characters can be lost in battle due to boarding actions or hull breaches of specific sections due to enemy fire.

This is a game which certainly does not lack ambition. Whether or not it will be able to fulfill these lofty goals remains to be seen when the game comes out next year…

It’s pretty epic.”

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available in spring 2014 for Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows PC. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is not yet rated in Australia and New Zealand. Capture Creator Coming to GTA Online This Friday

GTA-Online-Capture-Creator-01

Come this Friday, April 11, GTA Online players will be able to create their own Capture Jobs of all four variants (Contend, GTA, Hold and Raid) when the Capture Creator tool is released. Your creations can then be published for others to play, rate and share via the Rockstar Games Social Club. To commemorate the forthcoming update, until the date, playing all official Capture Jobs will earn you twice as much GTA$ and RP. Rockstar have recommended some specific jobs listed below, and will soon be providing helpful tips that will aid you in dominating at Capture Mode:

Contend: Salty Snatch
Dog walkers and surfing talent agents look out – two import operations at either end of Chumash Beach are fighting over a shipment that’s landed on the pier. Any product they can get to their spot in the sand is theirs to keep.

GTA: All Abhorred
Not just for parolees and perverts anymore, a fleet of buses at the Dashound Bus Center in Downtown LS becomes a target for two teams of hoods. They compete to get buses back to their bases on either side of the city, while trying to stop the other team from doing the same.

GTA: Field of Screams
A tractor shortage in Grapeseed leads to farmyard chaos. It’s harvest time, and two rival gangs compete to bring a Fieldmaster tractor back to their bases. Farming is a deadly serious business in Blaine County.

GTA-Online-Capture-Creator-02

Hold: Freight Fight
Two importers fight over rights to a shipment at the Terminal. Scrappy close quarters battle as they try to get as much product to their side of the containers as they can, and protect it when it gets there.

Raid: High Road
Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness: playground for uptight hikers, creepy bird watchers, trail mix enthusiasts and drug runners. Fight a rival crew for the rights to the tunnel shortcut to the Alamo Sea, and put them out of business by taking their product and banking it on your side of the tunnel.

Raid: Wargames
Like any military operation, when things kick off at Fort Zancudo Air Base, they escalate pretty quickly. Teams hoarding their black market profits raid each other’s bases at either end of the facility. If they get the goods back, they’re banked. Nothing’s off limits to be used here, including the fighter jets.

Today, a new Title Update is also available that includes numerous fixes, as well as some additional tweaks and functionality such as bonus RP given every time you like or dislike content after playing it, the ability to call Lester and have him instruct the cops to turn a blind eye to criminal activity for a short period of time, and increased payouts for completing Parachute, Races, Deathmatches and LTS Jobs with less than four players. Check out this article at the Rockstar Support page for the full list of fixes and changes.

New Board Game – “Survival!!” Launches on Kickstarter

survival-board-game-boxart-01

Crowdfunding websites have allowed some truly great and original ideas to flourish in recent years. Some have been home-runs (like IRL Shooter), while others have floundered upon launch (the OUYA). Well the guys over at Doom and Bloom have turned to Kickstarter to fund their brand-new, post-apocalyptic survival horror board game; Survival!!

Survival!! is a board game that has been designed by a husband and wife duo of medical practicioners that happen to specialise in disaster preparation. To that end, they have created a game that they feels fully encapsulates how life would be in the wake of a real-life pandemic. No zombies, no “infected,” this is something that could really happen, and that makes this game absolutely terrifying.

For a more in-depth look at the game as well as to possible back it, check out the developer’s Kickstarter page. The guys over at Doom & Bloom still have 35 days to go on their Kickstarter campaign, and have already reached almost half of their required amount. So for all the Survival!! news and updates as they becomes available, be sure to stay tuned to Capsule Computers.

Princess Jellyfish Movie Planned For Next Year

Princess-Jellyfish-Still-01

Jellyfish? A cross-dressing man? An apartment room full of female NEETs? This could only mean one series… Princess Jellyfish. A recent mass media magazine in Japan has confirmed that the popular josei manga has been green-lit for a movie adaptation; apart from giving the release year of 2015, no other information/dates have been given in relation to the movie.

The ongoing manga series, created by Akiko Higashimura, is based around Tsukimi Kurashita living in an apartment room with four other socially awkward females. Their cosy NEET lifestyle and no men allowed rule becomes jeopardized when Tsukimi invites a beauty queen like girl over to the apartment, who just so happens to be a guy. Given this story plot, the film could work out either as an animated piece or live action, keep your eyes on the site for further details about the movie.

An anime adaptation of the series was made in 2010; Funimation simulcasted the anime and provided an English dub. The show was also licensed by Siren Visual, check out the Capsule Computers review of the anime.
