All Alan Wake Prequel Episodes are available

0

If you’ve been following the live-action prequel to Alan Wake, Bright Falls, you’ll probably be glad to hear that all the episodes are now available on BrightFalls.com. If you don’t have the memory, can’t find them on your Xbox, or simply don’t want to download them;watching them here is your best bet if you want to see them. You’ll have to download silverlight to view them.

While the complete prequel may have come a little late for Europeans to enjoy it before Alan Wake’s release, everyone else can still enjoy it.

I’m working on a little something to highlight the US release of the game, hopefully nothing goes wrong and I’ll be able to release it in the coming days. If something breaks on the way; however, I’m just going to scrap it and move on. I hate restarting when something goes corrupt, all the fun gets sucked out of it.

Chess Challenge! Review

Chess Challenge!
Developer: Digital Leisure
Console: Wii (Reviewed)
Price: 500 Wii Points

Graphics:
The graphics of the chess pieces themselves are splendidly done. Each piece is easily distinguished between one another and looks much like their real life counterparts. Not only that but there are a multitude of selectable chess pieces. You have the ability to choose from marble, gold, wood, plastic, and metal pieces. My personal favorite is the wooden pieces, can’t go wrong with the classics. The marble chess pieces however look very messy and are hard to make out as they are a mess of either gold or black marble that is extremely overdone.

However when the game is played in 3D mode, that is where the graphics noticeably fall. It’s obvious that the graphics will not be anything amazing on the Wii, however the 3D graphics are very choppy and occasionally even blurry, though these are just the backgrounds and the true part of the game is the board itself, which changes appearance depending on location and appears just as you would expect for a chess board set up in that location.

The 2D mode is about as basic as you can get, the types of pieces are still available but they appear as one would expect on an older computer version of Chess. The boards still transfer over their appearance, but they age in the process. The backgrounds also suffer for this; changing to simple desktop pictures that only show slightly on the sides.

Gameplay:
This is a pure chess game through and through. There are a few different modes to play, however the only difference is who you are playing with. There is single player, two player local play, and of course online play. The most interesting of these is the online play itself. Obviously there will be a difficulty curve due to the fact that some people you will be playing against may be experts at chess, but you never know if you will be the one to overthrow them.

When playing single player there are three difficulty levels; novice, intermediate, and expert. There is also the option to choose a rated game which will be loaded onto the leader boards, and a practice game that will just be for fun. Plus there is the ability to choose from an incremental time amount, to a set time limit. These are only slight adjustments however and force the player to act quickly and intelligently to avoid losing because of an expired time limit. There is however, no option to shut the limit off.

One thing that I would have thought would have been an amazing add on to the game, is they added some sort of themed chess boards to the selection. Such as a medieval suit of armor type chess board, or a fantasy board. However there is no such option and instead each piece will always have the same exact design regardless of what type of piece you pick.

Overall:
If you enjoy chess then you will enjoy this game. However there is no other option for any other type of gameplay. Chess Challenge! is chess only and it unfortunately lacks additional options or customization which would at least make for a more enjoyable game of chess. The online play is quite enjoyable, and the WiiConnect24 is fun for a slow paced game that you can take and play at your leisure with people around the world. Otherwise though, if you aren’t a fan of chess, then this isn’t for you. If you are a fan of chess though, for only 500 Wii points, Chess Challenge! is a must.

I give Chess Challenge! for the Wii

The Alan Wake Project

This little experiment happened a while ago but I just wanted to share with you Microsoft’s Alan Wake Project which was held at Australia’s most haunted site located at The Quarantine Station North Head in Manly.  Initially everyone including myself thought it was something to do with Project Natal.  But let me tell you Project Natal was nowhere to be seen in this little project.  I even applied hoping to be picked so I could check out Project Natal.  In the end, I’m really glad I wasnt chosen 😉

If you want to call them lucky you can but five Aussies were chosen and taken to this Haunted location (and let me tell you it’s VERY haunted… a friend of mine has gone there and they can hear the ghosts, especially the children that all died there playing at night) to play Alan Wake AGES before it’s release date.  These unfortunate Gamers, if you want to call them that, were blind folded and taken to the location, then connected up to all sorts of monitoring devices to see what sort of effect playing ALAN WAKE would have on them in a totally freaky environment.

Not like ALAN WAKE needs any help in this department.  It’s scary enough as it is – trust me I KNOW !! Playing this at night in the dark with my surround sound headphones strapped to my head sent chills down my spine.

PAC-MAN SET TO TAKE A BITE OF 30TH ANNIVERSARY CAKE IN SWINDON

wakka wakka wakka wakka wakka … ahhh that’s the sounds of Mr Pac-Man munching away on those dots … but looks like on the 22nd May Pac-Man is going to be munching down on his 30th Anniversary Cake over at Swindon.  If your in the area make sure you check it out.  Have a read of the details below and location information.

A yellow, dot-munching legend will soon descend upon Swindon, Wiltshire, England, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of all-time video game classic, PAC-MAN.

Three unique events have been organised by the Museum of Computing in Swindon to mark this milestone, scheduled to take place on Saturday 22nd May 2010.

A specially constructed maze in Swindon town centre’s Wharf Green will be the venue for a unique ‘Human PAC-MAN’ event. Members of the public will be able to control a real-life PAC-MAN, trying to avoid the giant ghosts while collecting dots. It’s anyones guess what will happen when PAC-MAN grabs a ‘power pill’ and the tables are turned on the ghosts! Participants and onlookers will be able get a bird’s eye view of the action thanks to a video camera feeding Swindon’s twenty-five square metre ‘Big Screen’.

The ‘Big Screen’ will also be host to one of the largest versions of the original PAC-MAN game ever played and will be available to anybody who wants to relive their youth or try this classic game for the first time.

Simon Webb, Curator of the Museum of Computing, said: “PAC-MAN is the world’s most widely recognised games character. We couldn’t let this day pass without celebrating the 30th anniversary of this groundbreaking game, so we’re doing it in style. It’s going to be quite an event!”

Meanwhile, back at the Museum, people will be able to play variations of PAC-MAN on machines such as the Nintendo Game Cube, the original Game Boy, Sega Master System and many other retro game systems. The museum will also be staging a dedicated exhibition on the history of this social phenomenon, globally synonymous with 80s popular culture.

Museum volunteer Andy Romain said: “PAC-MAN was my first introduction to cocktail cabinet gaming. Sitting with a pint of coke and being drawn into the
neon-like maze world of this little yellow iconic character. Then I was thrilled when I was given a Grandstand handheld version of the game. He added: “PAC-MAN – the pill popping, ghost gulping figurehead of a gaming revolution!”

ITINERARY FOR ANNIVERSARY EVENTS:

WHARF GREEN, Swindon Town Centre SN1 1LV
11:00 – 15:00
– Pac-Man as it’s never been seen before – on the Big Screen
– Human Pac-Man, come and have a go at controlling a real life Pac-Man
– Public participation is free

MUSEUM OF COMPUTING – 6-7 Theatre Square, Swindon SN1 1QN
09:30-17:00
– Pac-man gaming on the Atari 2600, Nintendo Game Cube, Game boy, Sega Master System and many others
– History of Pac-man mini exhibition
– Normal admission charges apply

PAC-MAN is an arcade video game developed by Namco, a landmark in video game history. It was first released in Japan in 1980, a time when most video games were space ‘shoot-em-ups’. PAC-MAN was an instant success and became an icon of the popular culture and a social phenomenon. For more information visit the Namco website: www.namcogames.com

Killzone character skins coming for Lost Planet 2

This June, PS3 owners of Lost Planet 2 will be able to download two skins of the Helghast characters from Killzone free of charge. These skins, in addition to the previously announced Monster Hunter skin which will be available later this month, are exclusive to PlayStation fans across the globe. From the My Page menu in Lost Planet 2, players can build and customize their own unique character for use in the online versus mode. Once a player completes the campaign mode, they can port their multiplayer characters to the co-op story action, including the in-game cut scenes.

The Rock Band Songs for May 18th

I’ve said it before, but May 18th sees the onslaught of some heavy hitters (Red Dead Redemption., Alan Wake, Prince of Persia, Split/Second) Many good titles all competing for the top spot. Songs keep getting pumped out for Rock Band, and below is the list of songs being released. All the songs are pretty good, but I want to see some Weird Al hitting the virtual Rock Band Store. I’ll buy that rock band album in a heart beat.

All tracks except “Throwing Stones” and “A Girl Like You” are playable with LEGO Rock Band as well.

Grateful Dead Tracks – 160 Microsoft points each

  • Grateful Dead – “Beat It on Down the Line”
  • Grateful Dead – “Cumberland Blues”
  • Grateful Dead – “Scarlet Begonias”
  • Grateful Dead – “Throwing Stones”
  • Grateful Dead – “Touch of Grey”
  • Grateful Dead – “U.S. Blues”

These songs are also available as “Grateful Dead Pack 03” for 800 Microsoft Points.

The Smithereens Tracks – 160 Microsoft points each

  • The Smithereens – “A Girl Like You”
  • The Smithereens – “Only a Memory”

Look out for them from May 18th on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Naughty Bear Nightmare Part 3

The recent naughty bear footage have both been funny and entertaining, but they haven’t really shed any light on the actual gameplay of the game. So far we have seen an array of murders on teddy bears, a few in game cutscenes, and some nightmarish movie parodies.

Although all these videos are good, none of them show anything about the game itself. What we need is a dev diary that explains how the murders are initiated, how the sneaking takes place, and a general sense of how much fun you will actually have playing the game.

Judging by the recent achievement list reveal, the game looks pretty short. Only 7 episodes are present in the game. Hopefully each episode will have multiple missions and tons of fun ways to murder the cute teddies, but currently it is unknown.

White Knight Chronicles 2 Trailer

Level 5 has released a brand new trailer, one of the first we’ve yet to see, for White Knight Chronicles 2 for the PS3. Keep in mind this is the Japanese trailer of the game, as there has not yet been an English version announced. However the first White Knight Chronicles was released in English two weeks after the Japanese released so one can expect the same treatment with the sequel.

The trailer itself introduces new allies like Scardyne and Miu and a plethora of other features that have been added since the first game. We will see everything new with this game on July 8th on the Japanese release date, and potentially a few weeks later in English as well. I certainly can’t wait to see it myself as the trailer definitely has my JRPG blood boiling.
