FlatOut brings the Destruction to the Wii…

FlatOut has always been a series that rewards you for your reckless driving abilities. The more violence and turmoil you cause the better. I have always thought of the series as Mortal Kombat with cars, well, not the Pixar Cars, though I must say that would be highly entertaining as well. Team6 have now released more information on the new title coming to the Nintendo Wii. Take a look at the newest press release about the new “Battle Arena” set to be featured in the game.

The main goal of the whole FlatOut franchise is taking out your opponents in the most violent way possible, trashing each others cars till they explode: which makes FlatOut one of the most violent racing series on the market. The most obvious gamemode for rewarding, agressive racing behaviour is the old Destruction Derby mode but at Team6, we felt that this agressive ‘violence factor’ was missing in the old destruction derby gamemode from the previous FlatOut: and therefore we thought of new ideas to make this gamemode more fun and violent!

In the new FlatOut, the ‘Battle Arena’ is situated in an immense, interactive battle arena with a dark, post apocalyptic vibe. Inspired by the gladiators in ancient Rome, this is the perfect location to destroy your opponents with fun and ease. In previous FlatOut series some people may have found it frustrating to find an opponent and try to collide with him before he was out of sight: but the new Destruction Derby is one big deathtrap with loads of features to make it easier and more fun to blow your opponents car into tiny pieces!

There’s only one way to repair your car in Battle Arena: you have to pick up a newly introduced ‘Repair Bonus’. The catch is, these repair bonusses are often in a narrow, dangerous alley or nearby a deathtrap, making you an easy and especially fun target for all other contenders.

You can also take a look at this rough sketch of the new Battle Arena for the game.

Deathtraps, destruction and violence. Sounds like a title that should be perfect to set beside a copy of “Horsez 2”. Jokes aside, the Wii needs a title like this and I am glad to see Team6 on the project. FlatOut also promises to bring back the classic Stuntman mode, where you accelerate at full speed and fling your driver through the windshield. The more bones you break, the higher your score. So if your looking for a solid title with action and the classic violence that is sure to get Jack Thompson to fire up the old whine-mobile, this is for you. No release date has been released yet but be sure to keep an eye out for this new title soon.

Sega is presenting Thor in 2011

After making the various Iron Man games, and even the Incredible Hulk, Sega has unveiled that they will continue their Marvel film production with the fact that they will be releasing Thor: The Video Game on every major platform next year in 2011. This will most likely be a release a few weeks before, or the same exact release as the movie date. The movie in which, is coming out in theaters on May 6th, 2011.

Thor will be different depending on which console you decide to play on. The 360 and the PS3 will feature a god of war style game, which will incorporate elemental powers harnessed by the god of thunder, and even gigantic 25 foot tall Ice Trolls that you will have to defeat. The Wii will be using comic book styled graphics which will take advantage of what the console has for graphic capability. The PSP will also be using this look, but the DS version itself will make the game a side scrolling 2D game. This one will make it the most unique of the other versions due to the fact that they have made an entirely new storyline to go with the DS copy. Anyone a major fan of Thor in Marvel Comics? Or who was your favorite character created by Stan Lee?

EA Announces Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning…

Electronic Arts and 38 studios are gearing up for a brand new epic. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, last known as codename “Project Mercury” is a new open world RPG that has some big names attached to it. The game is being developed under Ken Rolston, lead designer of the critically acclaimed RPGs Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Rolston is joined by Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn and one of the most famous artists of our time who will bring his art style to bring this game to life. Just with this news alone, RPG fans should get this on their radar immediately as this project looks to be a huge release in the future.

“Reckoning is a great representation of how a team of incredibly talented and creative people with expertise in different areas can come together and complement each other so well,” said Jen MacLean, CEO of 38 Studios. “We are thrilled to be developing an open-world RPG under the leadership of one of the greatest RPG designers in the industry, with creative direction by one of the most iconic artists of our time, set in a rich universe imagined by one of the top fantasy genre authors in the world. We can’t wait to share the first details of this universe we have been so dedicated to building over the past few years.”

“In Reckoning, we started with Bob and Todd’s exceptional Kingdoms of Amalur game setting and imagery,” said Ken Rolston, Lead Designer at Big Huge Games, a subsidiary of 38 Studios. “On that foundation we built the open-world exploration, vast narrative and character customization fans expect from the best RPGs. And we’ve added something new that we’ve always wanted from the genre — a fast-paced, graphically stimulating action combat experience with fluid control and immersive, discoverable gameplay fans haven’t seen before in other fantasy RPGs.”

MegaMan Universe Trailer

So, the below trailer surfaced in the office and everyone gathered around one computer monitor to look at it. At first we were all thinking “WTF!?” but then MasterAbbott Grabbed his lancer and started skipping down the hallways of the office.

At first I thought he got all excited because it was Megaman, but it turns out he got giddy over Ryu and King Arthur. I have no idea what they are doing in a Megaman game, but it made MasterAbbott jump up and down while clapping like a giddy school girl. He won’t stop talking about it now… Luckily I have duck tape, and enough manpower here to shut him up for a while.

Check out the trailer for yourself below.

Darkspore unveiled!

1

Think you’ve had enough of creating whatever creature pops in your mind? Think you’ve had enough of raising it and creating your own universe? No?

Well, you’re in luck, because EA & Maxis have just announced (out of nowhere) Darkspore, an RPG set in the Spore universe. Creating your own creature, unlimited customization, leveling up and the whole bunch of RPGing…what can be more satisfying?

Taking the Spore franchise in a whole different direction was the whole purpose of Darkspore. The game looks like it got it’s roots from Diablo, being more of a hack and slash. You will be able to customize your avatar with the original Creature Creator, and although you can play the game solo, Darkspore is mean to be played in multiplayer mode. The player will control a three – character squad, being able to switch between them whenever they want. The classes are fairly familiar: the classic tank, the Plasma Sentinel (with area of effect spells) and the Biotempest (with hunter abilities, like ranged attacks and laying down traps). The game will have an implemented AI ability to detect how you are playing, keeping in mind which abilities you use and throwing different mobs at you, depending on your style of play.In multiplayer co-op, each players will be able to perform their friends’ abilities. Leveling up your character will play a major part in Darkspore, using DNA as the main currency and EXP points.

This title shows a lot of promise and, honestly, I’m really looking forward to this. The game will release exclusively on PC, February 2011.

Shank info revealed by EA

Also announced by EA today was that Shank now has a full release date and a price to go along with this over the top beat ’em up. We will be seeing the PSN and XBLM on August 24th and the 25th for each console. There are is even a bit of information on the price tag, which will be 1200 MSP but that is hardly a surprise at this point.

There was also a bit of rumbling about a co-op mode for the game, called a prequel co-op mission. This could mean that the only bit of co-operative mode will be one mission, or if it will expand beyond that once this mission is completed. We will have to wait and see.

Something that catches my eye however, is the release date on the XBLM. The date of the 25th will be placing Shank right in the running with Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World. These are both beat ’em up games with one having cartoonish graphics and a movie background to work with, and the other with a hyper stylized type of brawler. They both even have the same price tag of 1200 MSP, so there is a good amount of competition now to be seen between these two. Which would you pick?

Alice’s Madness Returns in latest EA announcement

EA has announced today, along with a partnership with Spicy Horse, that the horrifying transformation of the children’s story has been picked up for a sequel. This isn’t your standard picture of Alice’s Wonderland, this Wonderland is full of death, decay, blood, and terrifying monsters. The trailer itself for the reveal is full of Alice’s own blood and teeth, bear in mind it is quite a scary trailer if you wish to watch it.

The game itself, Alice: Madness Returns has been announced for a release date on the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 sometime in 2011.

Scott Pilgrim Vs the World sees multiplatform release

If you happen to have heard anything about Scott Pilgrim vs. the World you may have heard that it was only for the PSN. But it turns out that will not be true. Ubisoft has released a bit of information from Comic-Con that the side scrolling brawling game that combines many different unique elements, will be releasing on the Xbox Live Arcade August 25th, a scant 15 days after the release of the game on the PSN. This is an interesting move and perhaps the loss of exclusive release was lost due to a breakdown in communication between Sony and Ubisoft. Or the fact that the movie developers are pushing for further exposure of the franchise. All I know this is amazing news as this side scrolling brawler is very unique both in appearance and delivery, so I’ll be waiting for August 25th now especially. And even more so for the movie release August 13th.
