Tomatoes are amazing. Tomato based meals like pizza and spaghetti can also be enjoyed with friends. So what happens when a flying tomato, aka Shaun White, decides to make a video game and let you share it with friends? Worlds grow bright, cheery and full of skateboarding opportunities. You don’t believe me? Check it out! Who knew tomatoes could be so awesome?
Shaun White Skateboarding will enable you and 7 friends to skate four maps in four different multiplayer modes. Two player split screen will be provided. Voice chat and the ability to play as your custom character from the campaign will be included. The four multiplayer modes are as follows:
Go with the Flow
Go with the Flow is a free for all gametype that requires you to get the the highest flow score. I’m guessing that is similar to the “line” mechanic in SKATE. Form shaping* is allowed in this mode.
Shaping Battle
Shaping Battle is all about making as many shapes as possible. First though, a player must obtain the shaping power or steal it from someone.
Ministry vs. the Rising
The goal in Ministry vs. the Rising is to convert the highest number of people to your side. In case you were not aware, the story in this game tells about you, the Rising, freeing the city from the Ministry, a group of officials who think skateboarding (and most likely video games as well) will corrupt you. This team based mode splits your group up into a team of the Rising and the Ministry. Each side must try to either influence the city or “deinfluence” the city by doing cool tricks.
Free skate is the last mode, but that is pretty self explanatory. I am looking forward to this game. Hopefully it can do something original and exciting with skateboarding in video games.
*Form shaping is a unique game play mechanic in Shaun White Skateboarding. Each player can change the world around them by skating on an object and pressing a button. For example, a rail can be shaped and extended to reach rooftops. Or a fountain can be shaped into a half pipe.
Zombie Escape….Well, you’re constantly escaping different zombie situations with a multitude of weapons and strategies. This may be called a line-drawer but it’s much more than that. You draw lines for the directions you want the humans to escape in, avoiding the zombies at all costs. You have different weapons to attack and stop zombies with and much more. The goal is to get the humans out of the zombie-infected areas alive. Will you make it or will your brains just be another zombie’s lunch?
Graphics and Sound:
The graphics in this game aren’t the best, but the game looks good anyway. The line-drawings could have looked a lot better and maybe more cartoonish, compared to everything else in the game. The lines look like they’re drawn by a cheap pen. The game does have some good graphics moments, such as the titles popping up when you do something and the entire color scheme. Other than that, the people and objects in the game can be too small to enjoy. Though the graphics might not be amazing, the cartoonish effects when you use an object against a zombie is fun to look at, making this one of those funny little games to play. If you’re expecting a major zombie game, then this probably isn’t for you as you don’t really see zombies. If the graphics were updated to see the zombies from a non-bird’s eye view then this game would probably be one of the greatest zombie games ever made for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The sound effects in this game are the high-point of Zombie Escape. It’s fun to here the humans being eaten by zombies and the whole scene is better with the soundtrack in the background. Helicopters sound great and everything else does, too. The sound distracts you from the not-so-great graphics.
Gameplay and Controls:
This is a fun game for those who like to escape situations. If zombie wasn’t in the title, it would just seem like a vampire-escaping game. Ok, maybe not, but it’s not a huge zombie game. The point of this game is to direct the humans to their means of escape, all while avoiding zombies who just want them for their brains. Simple game? No. This game gets difficult, and quickly. The controls are simple: Just draw a path for your human, to either escape or pick up a useful object on the way. Use these objects on zombies to escape quicker and easier. No matter how simple this sounds, it isn’t. This game can become intense with higher levels. To use an object, you first have to pick it up, by walking into it. Then, all you have to do is tap the object you want and then tap where you want to put it. That part’s simple, but the bar on the bottom that has all your objects is quite small, which makes it hard if you need an object really quickly. Sometimes you might not tap it just right and not end up choosing the object, which can be bad for intense situations. This is a fun game, but it can be improved by much.
Summary:
This game can use some major improvement, but it’s still a good game. If the line-drawing effect was improved to look more like the rest of the game and the zombies were more recognizable as zombies, this game woul be up there in the top zombie games. This is not the case, so until it’s updated if it ever is, this game is good, but not great. This game needs polishing. Chillingo usually releases top-grade quality apps, but they forgot some important aspects in this one. Hopefully, the score will be able to change with an update. For now, this game deserves a GOOD rating of 7.5 capsules. This score will improve when the game gets some well-needed polish.
If you didn’t pre-order Dead Rising 2, you missed out on some helpful costumes that increase Chuck’s abilities when they are worn. All is not lost however as Capcom has unveiled the fact that you will soon be able to purchase these outfits for a small price over the PSN and XBLM. Each outfit will cost $2 or 160 MSP. They include the Psychopath Pack, Soldier of Fortune Pack, Sports Pack, and Ninja Pack. Catch the full details below.
Psychopath Pack (Oct. 12) — Bonus when using iconic horror movie weapons (chainsaws, cleavers, axes)
Soldier of Fortune Pack (Oct. 19) — Doubles ammo, increases shooting and headshot accuracy; special bullet spray attack when using automatics
Sports Pack (Oct. 26) — Golf balls, basketballs, etc. bounce more before stopping. Chuck will also “earn more from gambling, gain more health while eating and drinking and not get sick from drinking too much.” So, essentially, he’s your fun uncle.
Ninja Pack (Nov. 2) — Stealth mode requires zombies be closer to detect presence. Throwing items do more damage and are tossed faster; bonuses with sword weapon
These different outfits can be combined to make an ultimate fighter, as only one article of clothing is needed to provide said bonuses. Though overall the entire package will cost $8 or 640 MSP.

The full motion video game genre has unfortunately passed from the sight of console developers. But all is not lost as the iPhone and iTouch have offered an entirely new platform for these types of games to make a comback too. The people over at Digital Leisure are making sure that we don’t forget these games of yesteryear by bringing back yet another classic FMV game called Brain Dead 13.
The story follows Lance, a computer expert that has been hired to fix a supercomputer in the castle of an evil genius. Only to discover upon fixing the computer that Dr. Nero Neurosis plans to take over the world and now that you know his secret, you must die. Only problem is, Lance isn’t very keen on dying and you must help him escape the diabolical castle.
The game will be showing up on the iTunes App store October 8th for only a small price of $2.99.
Players of the first Dragon Age will be able to import their save data into the upcoming sequel to the game, but unfortunately not everything will be making the jump. In an interview with Mike Laidlaw, the lead designer of Dragon Age 2, NowGamer has been able to pull a few bits of information about what will be making the transfer.
Laidlaw stated
“We look at it as importing the world really. I’ve always seen Dragon Age as a franchise as about more than any one character. It’s about an entire span of history and the whole world that’s affected by what happens. So that was our approach and I think the importing stays true to that in the sense that the decisions your Warden made and the person they were all affects Dragon Age II. You know, who’s in charge of Ferelden, what happened with the Dwarves, who’s running Orzammar? All of these things are reflected and accounted for in Dragon Age II.”
With the fact that you will not be playing as your old character, but a new one named Hawke your character data however will not be carried over, though there has been nothing said if there may be some sort of inheritence to transfer equipment between games. This also means that depending on how you ended your game, and what major decisions you made, there will be a significant difference between games.
One thing on my mind is, will they have a pre-set storyline system if you don’t happen to have a save file from Dragon Age 1? Or will you be able to somehow customize your experience by selecting a few of your choices much like the beginning of Mass Effect 2. Good thing I had multiple playthroughs and saves of Dragon Age, will make it very interesting to see how significant these changes will be.
Warner Bros Interactive has released a new trailer for Lord of the Rings Aragorn’s Quest, showcasing how the game will incorporate the Playstation Move Controller.
Some of you may be thinking that the graphics look a little sub-standard for the PS3, but it is a multi-platform release. Here’s hoping it makes up for the lacking visuals with a solid Move control scheme. The explanation in the video certainly makes the controls look promising. Also, seeing as it’s due for release on October 29th, it will still be one of the first bunch of Move compatible titles.
Alongside PS3, Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest will be released on Wii, DS, PS2 and PSP with a scheduled release date of October 29th.
