Oh, Japan! – #4 Man’s Best Friend

Oh, Japan! is a weekly feature in which I chronicle the wierd, wacky and just plain crazy goings on in Japan. Because we all know, Japan is prone to doing things that make us Westerners say “Oh, Japan!”.

We have had video games, prank shows, music videos and now I present to you a Japanese game show. What game show specifically do you ask? None other than Man x Dog. A game show in which man is pitted against dog in various different situations. This one in particular has man attempting to out-run dog.

Check out the clip below to see who is the superior, Japanese men or some angry German Shepherds. Oh, Japan!

PAX 2011 – Binding of Isaac trailer

Did you like Super Meat Boy? Of course you did! Well, the co-creator of Super Meat Boy, Edmund McMillen has a new game coming out for the PC and Mac. The game titled Binding of Isaac is a Zelda-esque adventure game of horrific proportions.

The game revels in sadistic gore-filled glee and if the trailer is anything to go by, it may very well spread that glee when it is released. The game looks good and knowing who is the man behind it only excites me more. Super Meat Boy was great, but Binding of Isaac looks simply amazing.

Take a look at the creepy trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section.

RAGE seen on Breaking Bad

For those of you who tuned into the last episode of Breaking Bad, episode 7 of season 4, “Problem Dog”, you may have noticed that in the opening sequence Jesse Pinkman (a character in the show) was seen playing the upcoming game RAGE. The show uses the game a metaphor for the rage within side of the Pinkman character and ends with him having the choice to quit or restart. At which point he chooses to restart.

The fact that such a high profile show as Breaking Bad not only used the game as part of analysing this character’s emotional state and motivations, it also gives the game some pretty heavy publicity leading up to it’s impending release.

If you weren’t able to catch the scene in the latest episode you can check it out below. Do note that the version of RAGE shown on Breaking Bad isn’t the same as the full retail release and appears to have been altered into an on rails shooter specifically for the show as a story-telling device.

Let us know what you think of RAGE on Breaking Bad in the comments section below.

Vocaloid Teaser site appears

2 mysterious teaser sites in 1 day? Surely a conspiracy is afoot! Today a vague teaser website for Vocaloid has appeared and can be seen here. Whilst the site is incredibly vague, clever fans made a discovery after accessing the HTML source code for the website.

Within the HTML source code a hidden message which roughly translates to say “On September 1st, something will happen…” was discovered. What exactly that something might be is still a complete mystery. You can check out the HTML source code here.

What do you make of this teaser site? Do you have an idea what the Vocaloid site will reveal on September 1st? Let us know what you think in the comments section.

Free Tetris for Android!

The headline is pretty much all you need to know, because let’s face it the game needs no introduction, and free stuff is free stuff! For all the small print details however, carry on…

Tetris Free is EA’s second release to the Android market coming after Scrabble Free which was released in July. There is no such thing as a completely free lunch however, and the catch here is that the app is ad enabled. The game has new and improved graphics, touch screen control and of course, that famous music.

So for the Android enabled of you (running 1.6 and up), click here for some free block drop action.

ATLUS Teaser Site pops up

Recently a mysterious teaser site was opened by ATLUS which can be found here. The site holds no other information other than a vague logo of the sites address. Many fans are speculating that it is a hint at a possible new Persona title, as it features Persona font and colouring.

Other than bathing you in a lovely tinge of eye-bleed inducing yellow, the mystery site has sparked a great deal of interest from Persona fans who are speculating some sort of tie-in with the upcoming Persona 4: The Animation series.

However as it stands now, the site is still a total mystery. What do you think this site is teasing? Let us know in the comments below.

1950s Lawnmower Kids will Indeed have a Game Over Screen…

The very out there yet oddly charming Valet Parking 1989 hit the DSiWare earlier this year thanks to Zordix AB, and it looks like the dev team is out to repeat their success and…interesting ways to promote a game with the upcoming 1950s Lawn Mower Kids for the same platform. The main object of the game is simple, you must mow a lawn while avoiding obstacles and opponents such as “dogs, cats, ducks, and a menagerie of people lead by Angry Old Joe” and receive new contraptions to do your mowing duties thanks to “Mr Mowman”.

While the concept is out there, I still am intrigued by the game as it sounds like a quirky title that is at least going to provide something original in the process and Zordix do seem to put their hearts into every project, so that is always a plus.

Now, that being said, Zordix also released a full list of features for 1950s Lawn Mower Kids which are listed below. They speak for themselves I’d say, so make sure you take them in slowly.
