Interview with Bill Watterson; Lost Planet 3’s Jim Peyton

Bill-Watterson-Lost-Planet-3-01

Today, we had a great opportunity to speak with the wonderful, generous and talented Cleveland, Ohio native Bill Watterson – voice of Lost Planet 3‘s main protagonist Jim Peyton; a miner on a NEVEC contract to join the crew on E.D.N. III, drilling for the natural resource known as T-Energy.

We spoke for over an hour, talking about his work on the game, first experience with video game performance capture in L.A. Noire, collection of He-Man action figures, unadulterated love for Marvel and of course, what makes his character tick and just why fans will come to love him in the upcoming Capcom published, Spark Unlimited developed title. Did you know early on in development – talking vertical slice/pitching days – this prequel to the original Lost Planet had a more stylised look? Imagine an almost cel-shaded Lost Planet?! (although we’re sure it wasn’t planned to be that cartoon-ish).

We also found out how he thinks he would actually fare in the extreme conditions of the icy planet. All around, it was a fun interview with a real down-to-Earth bloke – yes, we declare him an honorary Aussie now. Check out our audio interview with Bill below and let us know what you thought of it in the comments section!

Over 15 Minutes of DayZ Footage Released

dayz-01

The standalone zombie epic of DayZ may still be in the mill, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get a sneak peak of how the process is moving along. Bohemia Interactive recently posted up a gameplay video featuring over 15 minutes of footage for the game originally built from ArmA 2 – while discussing how the current state of the game is coming along.

It is a pretty interesting video nevertheless, and the game is looking nicely thus far. Also explained is why the “Alpha” build is not readily available, as well as a few other burning questions that the community has had. Check out the clip below, and soon enough – DayZ will be launching in full for the PC down the road so stay tuned.

Christopher McQuarrie to Direct Next Mission Impossible

christopher-mquarrie-tom-cruise-jack-reacher-01

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have just confirmed – after rumours surfaced just the other day – that writer/director Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) will direct the next Mission Impossible movie, reuniting with Tom Cruise, whom he directed in last year’s novel-to-film adaptation, Jack Reacher.

The screenplay for M:I 5 is being written by Drew Pearce, with Cruise reprising the iconic role of Ethan Hunt, who was first introduced to movie-goers back  in 1996. J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot will continue to serve as producers, alongside Tom Cruise Productions and, of course, Paramount. Co-financiers and executive producers of the last instalment – M:I: Ghost Protocol – Skydance Productions, will now become more involved, working closely with the team in both the development and production process.

Cruise stated;

I am thrilled to reunite with Chris for the latest instalment in the Mission series. I began producing the films with the goal that a different director with his own vision would make each one.  Chris is an extraordinary filmmaker who will deliver the heart-pounding action and thrills that audiences around the world have come to expect from the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Adam Goodman, President of Paramount Film Group, added that; “the Mission series is special for its signature directors; Chris McQuarrie keeps this tradition thriving.” The franchise is obviously showing no signs of slowing down, with Ghost Protocol raking in nearly $700 million worldwide – Cruise’s highest grossing film to date in his storied career – taking the series’ overall lifetime box-office haul to $2 billion+.

August Club Nintendo Rewards bring out the Hidden Gems

club-nintendo-august-01

To be absolutely honest, I have been a slight bit disappointed with the offerings Nintendo have delivered for Club Nintendo in recent months. Sure, we have received Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Super Metroid – and so on, but how many of us bought those games when they first hit the Virtual Console? Nintendo seem to push the popular- which is a smart move, but I prefer the little games I missed out on to show up, as nothing beats a free game that the player has yet to experience.

This month, that is the name of the game as four lesser-tier rewards have shown up, offering titles that may be known, but owned by less of the base that own a Wii or 3DS. For the 3DS, we have Brain Ages Express: Sudoku and Mario Golf up for grabs, and NES Play Action Football (which has shown up before) and Wario’s Woods for the Wii’s service – all for 150 coins each. Sure, they don’t scream to me like Mario or Kirby, but I am digging seeing titles I have yet to add to my collection – even though I know I am alone with that sentiment. Either way, you can download all four of these titles by trading in your gold by September 1st and get that eShop filled up with some gems.

Japan Expo To Host Ace Attorney Art Director

ace-attorney-japan-expo

tatsuro-iwamoto-ace-attorneyJapan Expo has announced today that Tatsuro Iwamoto will be attending as a guest during the August 23-25 event this year in Santa Clara, California.

Iwamoto is a Japanese freelance illustrator who is best known as the art director for the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series by Capcom. He also provides the voice of Miles Edgeworth and Manosuke Naito in the Japanese versions of the games.

The illustrator has said he’s best at drawing “fatherly” characters” but can’t quite grasp the popular “moe”, or cute, girl style that’s so prevalent these days. Apart from working on various other games, he worked for the Clover Studio which is an independent studio founded by Capcom.

Iwamoto will be attending all three days of the event where he will be available for several panels, autograph sessions and interviews.

Dragon’s Crown Set to Head Down Under this October

Dragon’s Crown has just seen release in North America and as can be seen from our review, it is a pretty great game. Unfortunately, other countries around the world aren’t so lucky as to have the release date so soon, but as released earlier it will be coming to Europe this fall and as just released today will be coming to Australia and New Zealand in October.

The release of Dragon’s Crown for Australia and New Zealand will be thanks to a partnership between ATLUS, Namco Bandai Games, and NIS America, so that anyone with a PS3 and/or PS Vita looking to get this game in the southern hemisphere will actually get a chance to. With 6 drastically different players characters, up to four-player multiplayer via local or online play, and 1080p HD graphics this newest game from Vanillaware boasts plenty of great features.

Plenty of treasure to collect, skills to learn, and dungeons to explore Dragon’s Crown has lots to offer for PS3 or PS Vita when it releases in Australia and New Zealand on October 17th, 2013.

SimCity Plans for Expansion onto Mac Reveal New Release Date

Way back in April publisher EA and developer Maxis announced that their newest city simulation game, SimCity, would be coming to Mac on June 12th, but as astute gamers may have noticed it doesn’t seem like that actually happened. In a new announcement however, EA and Maxis have laid out the new plans for when Mac gamers will be able to join in on the latest in the series.

The new date has been revealed as August 30th, so fans that only own a Mac will finally be able to try their hand at playing mayor of a city. And, as stated before those that have purchased the PC version of SimCity will receive the Mac version completely for free, plus both the PC and Mac versions will indeed be connected and allow cross-platform play.

So, Mac fans and PC gamers with Macs will both be able to get SimCity as a digital release exclusively through Origin on August 30th. Unsure about the game, read what we at Capsule Computers have to say in our own SimCity Review.
