DeNA and Wizards of the Coast have announced that Arena of War, the first ever free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons mobile game, is now available exclusively for iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad.

Arena of War is a turn-based, 3D, battle-RPG mobile game that sends players on perilous quests through the Forgotten Realms. The gang’s all here

Tiburico De la Carcova (Head of DeNA’s Vancouver and Santiago studios) said:

“Arena of War is an epic and imaginative experience and we could not be more honoured to be partnering with Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro to launch the first ever free-to-play mobile Dungeons & Dragons game. Our development team worked side-by-side with Wizards of the Coast to build a game both long-time fans of the leading RPG franchise and action-adventure game players new to the brand will enjoy playing.”

Players build an adventuring party to enlist on their quests in Arena of War. By inviting friends to join a questing party, players can vanquish enemies and take on tougher challenges and bosses together. Each quest provides heroes with a variety of challenges for which some players, depending on character class, will have an advantage. The arena itself is also dynamic, filled with deadly traps that can be used against a player’s enemy or result in their own demise.

Nathan Stewart (brand director for Dungeons & Dragons, Wizards of the Coast) said:

“Wizards is committed to working with the best partners to bring great digital D&D experiences to our fans, Arena of War creates a great mobile experience in the Forgotten Realms and pits players against our legendary monsters to fight for the Realms in the current Sundering storyline.”

Arena of War is available now for free on the App Store, with an Android release coming soon. Players receive an alert when the game is available for Android as well as upgrade their character by obtaining the free Ultra Rare Power CAUSE FEAR by visiting the official site. Check out the screenshots below and prepare for some dungeons and maybe a dragon or two.

Possible Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy/Tales Crossover Discussion

Final-Fantasy-Dissidia-01

Video game crossovers happen to be one of my favourite things in life, crossovers in general actually and it’s the icing on the cake to see big franchises come together to create something special. Games like Final Fantasy’s Dissidia and more recent titles like Project X Zone have proven to us that JRPGs are just as good at making or being in a crossover title than any other genre, which brings me to my next point: Apparently three of the JRPG world’s “big wigs” have, somewhat, talked out crossing over the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Tales franchises into one huge crossover game to end all crossover games.

Hideo Baba: “If you can do it, then by all means!”

Yosuke Saito: “Shall we? We can start right away.”

Hideo Baba: “How about Toriyama’s first Tales game?

Shinji Hashimoto: “If Toriyama is okay with it, then we’re okay with it. As long as we stay true to the world view, I think Horii would be okay with it, too. How about Kosuke Fujishima draws for Final Fantasy, and Tetsuya Nomura does Dragon Quest?

Hideo Baba: “I’m pretty sure Fujishima would do it.”

Dragon-Quest-01

Yes this is true, Hideo Baba (Tales Producer), Yosuke Saito (Dragon Quest Producer) and Shinji Hashimoto (Final Fantasy Producer) have all spoken about the possibility of this though becoming reality and while it doesn’t seem like the conversation was TOO long and while they didn’t get into TOO much detail I’d still like to believe that, really, nothing is stopping them from making this happen. I, for one, pray that this happens because even though I’m not a big fan of these games I know a lot of people out there would love to get their hands on something of this majesty. Here’s to you, JRPG fans!

Batman: Arkham Origins TV Spot Follows Bruce Through the Years

Batman: Arkham Origins is drawing ever closer and so Warner Bros. is prepping for its release with a TV spot that is set to start airing on TV on October 22nd, but seeing as this is the internet fans can watch it right now. The TV spot itself doesn’t show off much of the game at all, though because it is titled Arkham Origins, focuses on the evolution of Bruce Wayne from that fateful night, to his confrontation with Black Mask.

Making an emotional trailer is really more of an art, but this one seems to hit a lot of right notes, showing off the moment Bruce loses his parents, the funeral, bullying, training, and finally what he becomes all the while back by piano and strings. Of course the only words in the entire trailer being the lyrics “It’s all still with me” doesn’t hurt either.

Those wanting to see Bruce’s life as he goes from a happy youth to a masked vigilante can find the TV spot embedded below. Batman: Arkham Origins is set to release for release October 25th, 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC. Although the mobile game is available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch now from iTunes.
