Nordic Games Reincorporates as THQ Nordic

After the fall of THQ, Nordic Games purchased both the rights to the THQ trademark and several of their franchises in 2014. Today, Nordic Games announced that they have reincorporated themselves under the new name THQ Nordic. The company believes mixing the two company names pays homage to both Nordic Games’ Swedish roots and the the renewed love the company is giving to the purchased franchises.

A new logo was also unveiled, which uses the old THQ logo from 2011 to 2013. “As for the new logo design, we literally stumbled across it when browsing some art files, after we bought the THQ trademark and figured: why not? We hope the reception from our partners is less ambivalent but we’re OK either way,” said Lars Wingefors, founder and owner of THQ Nordic.

Along with the announcement, THQ Nordic confirmed they have 23 different game projects in development across the entire company. Only ten of the 23 have been publicly announced and many are using the franchises purchased in the THQ auction.

The renaming seems to be quite a keen move for increasing the company’s brand recognition. Nordic’s library of franchises was given a significant boost with the THQ acquisition, which doubled their library of key franchises. Additionally, Nordic Games was founded in 2008, while THQ started 1989.

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE RELEASES ‘SONGS FROM FINAL FANTASY XV’ – THREE BRAND NEW TRACKS CREATED FOR THE FINAL FANTASY XV UNIVERSE

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE RELEASES ‘SONGS FROM FINAL FANTASY XV’ – THREE BRAND NEW TRACKS CREATED FOR THE FINAL FANTASY XV UNIVERSE

LONDON (12th August 2016) –   Square Enix Ltd., today announced that Songs from FINAL FANTASY XV, a selection of three brand new tracks recorded for FINAL FANTASY® XV by the Grammy-nominated and two time Mercury Music Prize shortlisted Florence + the Machine,  is available today.

The special collaboration which includes three tracks, Too Much Is Never Enough, I Will Be and Stand By Me, which were recorded at Air Studios in London with producer and composer, Emile Haynie (Kanye West, Lana Del Rey). Too Much Is Never Enough, is a cinematic epic, featuring sweeping strings and Florence’s rich, emotive vocals. It premiered globally this morning on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw as part of their New Music Friday. I Will Be is an evocative ballad, while her rendition ofStand By Me, as first previewed at the UNCOVERED: FINAL FANTASY XV event in March, gives the Ben E. King classic a beautiful, melancholy edge.

“I’ve always seen FINAL FANTASY as a beautiful and creative game so I don’t think I could have worked with another video game. It wouldn’t have made sense.” –  Florence said on her decision to collaborate with FINAL FANTASY XV. In some ways the landscape of FINAL FANTASY and my own internal landscape seemed to fit quite well, it’s mythical and beautiful and epic.”

FINAL FANTASY XV Director, Hajime Tabata, also spoke about his excitement for the release of “Songs from FINAL FANTASY XV” – “We are incredibly excited to have collaborated with Florence on both the cover of ‘Stand By Me’ and on the two original tracks inspired by the world and story of FINAL FANTASY XV. Music has always been a hugely important and much beloved part of the FINAL FANTASY series, and with these three tracks we really wanted to create a musical experience to live within the game, and that will transport listeners, whether new to the series or not, into the epic FINAL FANTASY XV Universe”.

Florence + the Machine’s Songs from FINAL FANTASY XV is available now on iTunes.

Swiftpoint Raises over $500,000 for Their Innovative The Z Mouse

the-z-promo-shot-01

Swiftpoint’s Kickstarter closed today, raising $514,140 for the company’s newest project, The Z mouse. The mouse is possibly the most innovative mouse designed so far. With an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a force sensor, and tactile feedback technology built into the mouse, The Z sounds more like a console controller or a smartphone than an actual mouse. The Z is designed to work like a regular mouse, but introduces the ability to tilt or pivot the mouse when it is on the mouse pad. When the mouse is lifted into the air, it behaves more like a smartphone, allowing users to control the mouse over a 3D space, which is perfect for flying games.

The Z uses the force sensors in the left and right mouse buttons to detect how hard a user is pressing the button. Different levels of force can be assigned to different functions, such as a light click to scope in, a harder press to zoom in even further, then an even harder press to hold breath. Overall, 50 actions can be programmed into the mouse at once.

A small OLED screen located on the side of the mouse helps gamers configure the mouse without having to alt-tab out of a game. Software for the mouse will be available for Mac and Windows. The Z features ten buttons, including two interesting trigger buttons. The sensor is an optical 12000 DPI sensor from Pixart, and the entire mouse has been designed with ergonomics in mind.

Swiftpoint hopes to begin shipping the mouse for December 2016. Those who have missed the Kickstarter can pre-order directly from Swiftpoint for $229 USD with a $20 deposit.

Endless Space 2 to Enter Steam Early Access This Summer

endless-space-2-screenshot-01

Amplitude Studios announced that their 4X strategy game Endless Spacewill be coming to Steam Early Access in the coming weeks. As part of the announcement, the French developers revealed two factions that will be part of Endless Space 2, The Cravers and the Sophons. The Cravers are insect-like aliens created to destroy planets who are now master-less and carving a path of destruction across the galaxy.

The Sophons are the polar opposite of the Cravers. The Sophon are highly advanced aliens obsessed with gathering all the knowledge of the universe. However, curiosity (almost) killed the cat, as their quest for knowledge has some unintended and destructive consequences. The Sophon have accidentally blew up their moon, triggered earthquakes, and blown up plenty of their creations. And yet, the Sophon are still the most advanced faction in the entire Endless Space universe.

Amplitude Studios is holding a contest to design a new faction for Endless Space 2, with the winning design as selected by the GAMES2GETHER community. The contest will be run in the following three phases:

  1. Gameplay Design: Every faction in Endless Space 2 contains unique gameplay traits and functions. How does yours differ, fight, defend, and live? Here, you’ll also include a light backstory/biography.
  2. Visual Design: What will your heroes look like, what is their habitat and how will your spaceships reflect and expand on your race’s beliefs?
  3. Narrative Design: Expand on the background idea to develop their culture, their beliefs, how they interact with other factions or fight against enemies…

The contest runs until October 13, 2016. Find out more and submit your proposal at the official GAMES2GETHER forums.

NeocoreGames has released a gory new gameplay trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr showcasing some of the bloody ways to kill the enemy. All enemies are affected by every strike, whether they are pushed back and stunned from being shot or being vaporized into a fine red mist. Even enemy armour is not safe from damage with pieces being destroyed as they are shot. Special attention has been paid to major fights, allowing players to focus fire on specific body parts to weaken the enemy by dismemberment.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is a tactical action RPG set in the classic Games Workshop setting. A release date has yet to be set, but the game will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Team Skull and More Revealed for Pokemon Sun & Moon

pokemon-sun-moon-leaked-trailer-08

We covered a lot of these leaks a couple of days ago, but now that the new trailer is out for Pokemon Sun & Moon we have clearer images and English details on a lot of things we previously posted about as well as a couple more new Pokemon and more details on the evil Team Skull.

pokemon-sun-moon-leaked-trailer-05

The fish type Pokemon known in Japan as Yowashi has been ranmed to Wishiwashi. It has a Solo Form and when it reaches a certain level, can use its ability Schooling to transform into it’s School Form making it much more powerful. It seems to lose this form when low on health.

We also got two brand new Pokemon that weren’t showcased in CoroCoro magazine. The sea anemone Pokemon Pyukumuku is a Water Type that has the ability Innards Out which seems to damage the opponent when Pyukukuku faints, kind of like a built in Destiny Bond. The damage dealt will be equal to the HP it had remaining before receiving the knock out blow. The other new Pokemon looks like a cave mushroom and is a Grass/Fairy type called Morelull. It has the abilities Illuminate or Effect Spore. It also learns the move Spore, a very rare move with 100% sleep chance.

The rest of the video focused on the new bad guy team which is called Team Skull in Sun and Moon. They seem to have a very over the top gangster vibe and kind of remind me of the gang from Chappie if anyone ever saw that. Their theme song sounds like old school ghetto rap music. In some dialogue, Guzma, the Big Boss of Team Skull is shown conversing with the profressor, saying how they were both rejected from becoming Island Captains.

Lastly three new Alola forms were shown. Alola Meowth and Marowak which we knew about from a couple days ago and the all new Alola Raichu! He becomes an Electric/Psychic type and kind of hovers on it’s tail. It’s new ability is called Surge Surfer, which doubles Raichu’s speed when Electric Terrain is active. Seems like the various field effects introduced in X & Y are going to be alot more prominent in battles in Sun & Moon.

Pokemon Sun and Moon releases on November 18th for the Nintendo 3DS. You can watch the brand new trailer below.
