Victorian Mysteries: The Moonstone released by Square Enix for iOS

Square Enix may be working on plenty of console games but that doesn’t mean they have forgotten about the little guy. The publisher has released a new game for the iOS today and it is available for both the iPhone and the iPad in two different versions. The game itself is titled Victorian Mysteries: The Moonstone and it is based off of a 19th century novel of the same name written by Wilkie Collins. The game itself was made by developer Freeze Tag.

Players will be playing as Detective Cuff and must locate the stolen Moonstone diamond inside of the Verinder estate. You will need to hunt for clues and gather evidence so you can be sure of who to accuse. The game itself is available for $1.99 on the iPhone and $2.99 on the iPad as an HD version.

Skyrim pre-orders come with a premium quality world map

Bethesda knows that all of their fans are eagerly waiting to hear the slightest bit of news relating to Skyrim. Whether it is a new trailer or screenshots, fans will gobble it up. Of course fans will be happy with this news too, anyone who pre-orders the game will get a special map that will be automatically included with your copy.

The map is being stated as “premium quality” and it will be made of a “high-grade material that has a feel similar to burlap” so it is actually going to be a cloth map. The map that was included in the special edition of Oblivion was a simple paper map so this cloth map is certainly going to be a collectors item for fans of everything Elder Scrolls. Just make sure to pre-order the game before 11/11/11 when it is released on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

FFVII and FFVIII available on Steam but not for purchase

After digging around for awhile, some Internet users with a bit too much time on their hands have found that Square Enix has actually uploaded both Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII to Steam to download. Unfortunately Square Enix has final say as to when those games will be released and it seems unlikely.

The games are based on the PC versions of both games that were made by Eidos back in 1998 and 2000. Square Enix made edits to the game for them to run well on modern PCs but the last changes that were made were in the beginning of 2010. With no actual release ever announced it is likely that these versions have been abandoned. No reason was discovered by RPG Site as to why Square Enix gave up on the endeavor but I’m sure they would have made quite a lot of sales from die-hard Final Fantasy fans.

L.A. Noire ships 4 million copies

So not only has L.A. Noire received confirmation of a PC port but they also have revealed why they are making the effort to release such a port. Namely the fact that Rockstar and Team Bondi’s game has shipped four million units worldwide. Well the actual statement from Take-Two is: “Since its release on May 17 L.A. Noire has shipped approximately 4 million units worldwide to date.”

Now since these are shipped numbers we can’t confirm how many of these copies were actually sold but we can safely assume that L.A. Noire has been a decent enough hit around the world. Perhaps L.A. Noire’s unique take on gameplay and being a detective is a big enough hit in the game world to justify more adventures into that territory.

Dragon Age 2 DLC and Mass Effect 3 demo playable at Comic-Con

If you plan on going to Comic-Con then you will most likely be able to see a lot of different things. Namely a lot of people cosplaying as well as a bunch of interesting sights. But gamers may also want to attend Comic-Con because Bioware just announced that they will be showing off the newest Dragon Age 2 DLC at the event as well as a demo for Mass Effect 3.

The event will be running from July 21st until the 24th and fans can even cosplay as their favorite Bioware character because on the 22nd Bioware is also holding a costume contest. I can’t wait to see if someone will show up dressed as Varric with all of the chest hair. Also maybe the DLC will add another dungeon map, bringing the grand total to five!

Dungeon Siege III update with better PC controls being worked on by Obsidian

Dungeon Siege III released this week on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, but not everyone was happy with their version of the game. Of course this means the PC gamers who found themselves dealing with mouse and keyboard controls that are not very well designed according to most users.

Obsidian is looking to fix that problem however because Lead Designer at Obsidian, Nathaniel Chapman, spoke with Eurogamer and said that PC controls are “one thing I would have spent more time on, and we are actually spending time on now.” This of course means that the offended PC gamer demographic may soon have a better control scheme to enjoy the title. Exactly when the patch can be expected is unknown at the moment.

Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS will take “several years” says Sakurai

At Nintendo’s E3 conference you may remember that they announced that a Smash Brothers game was on the way for both the Wii U and the 3DS systems. This was met with much applause and a few cheers during the conference. One person was not very happy however with this announcement, simply because he had no idea that there even was anything being developed. That person is Masahiro Sakurai.

Masahiro Sakurai, creative lead of Nintendo, explained in his Famitsu column that there will be quite a time lapse between games. He had this to say about the two games announced during the conference “It makes me cringe and I’m not sure it’s the smartest thing to make gamers wait for several years, but the early announcement was made chiefly in order to attract new team members.”

It seems that Mr. Sakurai’s team has been working on Kid Icarus: Uprising and is still working on finalizing the product, which means that there is currently no time to work on these two new titles. Well, lets just hope that these several years that it will take to make the next Smash Bros. title will make them the best we have ever seen.

J.K. Rowling announces Pottermore: an online Harry Potter experience

J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, has revealed plans to expand the Harry Potter experience now that the 7th and final book is complete, and the 8th and final film has been finished and will be arriving in cinemas shortly.

It’s called Pottermore, an online reading experience where everyone can take part to explore each other’s imaginations for the Harry Potter novels, or even find out new details J.K. Rowling admits she has been holding back about the fantasy world of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She claims it will be ‘an online reading experience unlike any other’, and fans will also be able to access digital versions of the stories from the website http://www.pottermore.com/

There’s little information on exactly what it entails at this stage, but the YouTube video of the author announcing Pottermore explains it quite well and if you visit the site on 31st July, you can find out how to get the chance to enter Pottermore early. For those without early access, though, Pottermore is open to all in October.

Neil Kaplan Interview at Supanova Sydney 2011

At Supanova Sydney 2011, I have to admit that I felt there was less of a focus on gaming and more of a focus on anime. However, one of the gaming guests that made it to this year’s expo was none other than the talented and wonderful Neil Kaplan, who voices Tychus Findlay in Starcraft II, and Optimus Prime in Transformers: Robots in Disguise.

This is actually as awesome as it looks.

In our interview, Neil chats to Michael Marr (or Spike, as you guys may know him) and myself about his role in Transformers: Robots in Disguise, the character of Tychus Findlay, and voice acting in general. He even adds in his own impersonations of Auz-timus (Australian Optimus Prime) and Opti-moose (Yes, that is exactly as it sounds).

Neil was absolutely wonderful to talk to, and such a humble, down-to-earth, and hilarious man as well. You can check out our interview with him down below. Excuse the loud noises in the background and the occasional jump in the frame. I’m upgrading to SD cards instead of tapes after this, I promise.

Leave us any comments on this page, and check out the rest of our Supanova coverage here.

LOTR: War in the North Beleram gameplay vignette

A new trailer for the recently revealed character of Beleram has been released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: War in the North game. It illustrates the crucuaial role the great eagle will carry as a form of support in battle during the up to 3-player co-op.

Ripping enemies limb from limb, grabbing foes in his talons and flinging them off cliffs, destroying enemy structures and taking to the air in defence of the Fellowship; while Beleram cannot be tamed or owned, his strength can be called upon to save the North of Middle-earth.
