Konami announces Cristiano Ronaldo as face for PES 2012

Yes, you read it right. While Lionel Messi has graced the cover of PES for the last 3 years, Konami has in fact unveiled that Cristiano Ronaldo is going to be the face of the latest addition to the franchise, Pro Evo Soccer 2012.

The announcement was made for gamescom 2011, and will see the Real Madrid player gracing the cover of all packaging and marketing materials. Jon Murphy, the European PES Team Leader, said the midfielder was a perfect fit into the new innovations that are being introduced into the title.

“Cristiano Ronaldo embodies everything we are trying to achieve with PES 2012. He is quick, skillful, with an eye for a pass, and devastating in attack. His movement and energy brighten any game, and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with us in the pivotal title in the PES series.”

When asked to comment on PES 2012, Ronaldo was quick to praise the game.

“I have long admired the PES series, but what KONAMI has achieved this year is remarkable.

“Football is all about teams working together and making assists and runs that create attacking opportunities. KONAMI has recreated this perfectly, and PES 2012 is a brilliant simulation of a real match. If you know football, you are going to want to spend some time with this amazing game.”

Ronaldo, currently one of the world’s top 10 highest-paid footballers, was last seen on the cover in PES 2008 alongside Michael Owen (UK) and Lucas Neill (Australia). It is unclear exactly why Konami chose Ronaldo over Messi (Messi was ranked La Liga Player of the Year in 2011), but only time will tell whether he is as well-received as the face for the 2012 edition of the game.

Do you think putting Cristiano Ronaldo on the cover of PES 2012 was a good decision? Let us know in the comments section down below. You can also click here to read more on PES 2012.

Resistance 3 trailer is artistic, beautiful

Playstation and Sony are showing up at Gamescom with their guns loaded and their videos ready to launch. One trailer from their conference was to promote Resistance 3.

Resistance 3 is aiming to be the game that the franchise is remembered for. To that end, Insomniac is really stepping up the intensity in the story and atmosphere departments. This latest trailer, inspired by the recent artwork done by Olly Moss, does not show any actual gameplay, but it left me with a lump in my throat. We can’t wait to get our hands on this game when it comes out in September, exclusively for the PS3.

Gamescom Uncharted 3 trailer

If you have ever had dreams of launching a career similar to Nathan Drakes’ (exploring ancient cities and fighting bad guys with a blonde bombshell by your side) then you may want reconsider your life path, especially if airplanes are not your thing. Nathan Drake not only has to jump onto an airplane in this Gamescom trailer, but he also gets to… well, you’ll see. In addition, he has to leave behind… well, you’ll see that too. Why don’t you just watch the video so we don’t spoil for it you. It showcases Uncharted 3 like the best of any gameplay video, and it is a reminder of why the Uncharted series has won multiple game of the year awards.

Kinectimals with Bears -Screenshots from Gamescom (Updated!)

kinectimals-with-bears-gamescom-03
The adorable Kinect game, Kinectimals, is now getting a sequel, and we have screenshots that show off the cuteness that will be Kinectimals With Bears! Shown off at  Gamescom 2011, these shots show off the black bear, cinnamon bear and panda bear in the environments that you can play with them in. Even the koala and polar bears will be included.

I’m sure MasterAbbott will be delighted to finally actually be able to play with a koala when the game releases on October 11, 2011. What about you? Has it been your dream to always play with bears in the wild?

Just make sure your kids know the difference between fantasy and reality, because we really don’t want to see any headlines from Fox News about Kinectimals with Bears causing problems for children when they go camping.

Update: In addition, Microsoft also announced that this game will be a full retail disc title. However, those gamers who purchased the first game may download DLC that replicates Kinectimals with Bears and that the DLC can be played using the first Kinectimals disc. No pricing has been announced as of yet. /end update.

New Assassin’s Creed: Revelations trailer is choreographed to the tune of Awesome

The latest trailer from Ubisoft showing off Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is, in our opinion, the best trailer so far for the game. Set to an amazing soundtrack and featuring lots of jumping, running, killing and zip lining, Ezio, Altair and even Desmond appear in the trailer.

The video also reminds us that there is a sign up for the upcoming beta, so go to assassinscreed.com to get in on that action if you so desire. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations launches on the 15th of November for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. If the game is anything like this trailer, we are all in for a great experience come this Fall. Experiences that include laying the absolute smack down on a baddie, medieval-style.

Silent Hill for Vita has an isometric view

At Gamescom 2011 today, Konami showed some footage of Silent Hill: Book of Memories, a game coming to the Playstation Vita. Although the game will feature co-op multiplayer, a first for the series, there is something else special about this game. It will be set in a top-down or isometric view, similar to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. In addition, you’ll be able to play with your own created characters, because Konami is creating an entirely different storyline for the game that will be unrelated to other Silent Hill storylines. Silent Hill features gun and melee combat, as well as the ubiquitous RPG element. We will update this post as soon as we can with an image of the isometric view.

The Witcher 2 updated to 2.0 on PC & Xbox 360

At GamesCom 2011 today, CD Projekt said that they will be upgrading The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. On September 29, there will be an automatic update that will be free and include a new tutorial, a “Dark Mode” difficulty, and the addition of an “Arena Mode.” The Dark Mode is similar to Insane Mode, but will allow for saving. The Arena Mode is an arena style survival mode, similar to Horde or Firefight.
In addition, Version 2.0 will also have 20 new tech enhancements. All the updated content, plus any DLC that is released, will be included in the Xbox 360 version of the game upon its release early next year.
