RAW! RAW! FIGHT THE POWER! That war cry has been heard for the past 5 years from fans of the now legendary GAINAX produced anime series Gurren Lagann. That’s right it was 5 years ago that Gurren Lagann originally aired in Japan and GAINAX have made sure to celebrate this landmark series’ 5th anniversary in style.
They have confirmed that there will be several special projects taking place to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Gurren Lagann. So far they have revealed that there will be special figures released in particular a new model of fan favourite character Yoko which can be seen below.
Speculation has been running rampant that one of these projects could be a new anime production (perhaps an OVA or film). However this has not at all been confirmed.
We will keep you updated on the 5th anniversary celebrations of Gurren Lagann as it comes to light. Be sure to let us know what you think of the 5th anniversary of Gurren Lagann in the comments section below.
Earlier today Capcom had announced the artists behind the DmC – Devil May Cry soundtrack. These artists each specialise in a different kind of sound that will each add their own flavour to the Devil May Cry game. After listening to one of the songs that are to feature in the soundtrack, I must say that I am looking forward to listening to this games soundtrack in its entirety.
On the Dubstep side of things, we have Noisia who have put together an amazing electronic sample track that players are now able to download off of Facebook. Us guys here at Capsule have listened to this track already and we each have a differing opinion on its place in the DmC franchise.
On the Industrial side, we have the band Combichrist doing the soundtrack. After listening to a few of their tracks on Youtube, I can say that they’re a pretty good band and I’ll probably buy one of their albums off iTunes. I’m confident that they’ll be putting a decent spin on the DmC soundtrack.
I have some concerns over the new DmC game after hearing the kinds of music that will be included in the soundtrack. The original Devil may Cry games had a very dark and Metal styled soundtracks that fit the theme of demon hunting and murdering quite well. Now we have this electronic soundtrack that is much closer to The Matrix, which should be better used to portray a Cyberpunk setting. However, although I have these concerns, this soundtrack might fit the game quite well. I’m willing to give it a chance before chucking a stink like most gamers will be.
If you have been looking for a racing fix that takes the arcade route, you should be looking into Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad, which launches today. This racer throws players on some beautiful dirt tracks where players can sling mud in multiplayer, unlock vehicle upgrades, and enjoy a simple yet satisfying career mode that is sure to please anyone looking for a more arcadey experience.
“Looking back on the previous generation of games, there were a lot of great racers out there that were simply a lot of fun. They were inspiring,” said Robb Rinard, creative director at 2XL Games. “We wanted to recapture what was great about those games while making something our own. I’m proud of what we’ve created, and I’m more than ready to take on some challengers online.”
Yep, it is always a goood thing to see that a developer is proud of their work, and judging by the trailer, this is one title many should be keeping an eye on. You can grab Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad for the XBLA and PSN today for just 800 points (or $9.99) as of today, and check out the shiny new clip down below that is full of dusty carnage.
Remember the good old days when you could buy a video game and play through it completely without having to spend more real life coins on it? Unfortunately those days are over as it seems more and more developers are doing whatever it takes to grab more money for their titles. One of the latest fiascos of this sort has been the Real Money Auction House (RMAH) of Diablo 3.
For those that are unfamiliar with the RMAH, here’s how it works:
A player comes across a rare item while playing Diablo 3.
He or she then has the opportunity to set up an auction on the RMAH and post the item.
Players can set a minimum bid and/or an optional buyout price for the auction.
If all goes well, a buyer is found and the sale is on but, before all is said and done Blizzard takes a cut of the deal in the form of transaction fees; $1 USD/$1 AUD per item or %15 of the sale if the item being sold is a commodity. Then you have the choice of taking what is left of your payout from the sale in the form of credit on battle.net (Blizzard’s online gaming service) or actual money on PayPal…after another %15 transaction fee.
So let’s say little Johnny wants to sell his Rapier of Greed on the RMAH. He sets up the auction and for simplicity’s sake we will say it sells for $100 (there are items that sell for higher). Little Johnny loses $1 right off as a transaction fee. Then, since he actually wants the money, he opts for it to be sent to his PayPal account and therefore loses an additional $14.85 (%15 of the $99 being transferred). Poor Johnny gets $84.15 of his $100 sale on an item that he most likely spent hours upon hours farming. Now where does that $15.85 go? Straight into Blizzard’s pocket.
Sure enough, these rare items have been selling on the RMAH as they are almost necessary to beat the game on ‘Inferno Mode’ which is the highest difficulty setting. There has been some major backlash though. As one might imagine, most players refuse to pay real money to play through the game again and as such, the player base of Diablo 3 has dropped dramatically since launch week. Only time will tell if Blizzard’s money making scheme will pay off or sell out.
In what can only be seen as a rather interesting twist, Sentai Filmworks revealed today that they have given the home video rights back to the production committee for Ro-Kyu-Bu ~ Fast Break!. Sentai simply stated that the committee had asked to buyback all licenses of the show outside of Asia and they complied with this request.
Now this is quite strange as Sentai Filmworks will likely still be able to stream the show online as well as through other sources. Now for those who don’t know Ro-Kyu-Bu ~ Fast Break! followed the story of a highschool basketball star as he begins to teach a young girl’s basketball club. The series lasted for twelve episodes and Sentai Filmworks originally was meant to release the title with English subtitles only. Then again, perhaps given the anime’s subject material, this was for the best.
North vs South is often hailed as one of the first turn based strategy games ever, releasing on the NES and its generational buddies way back in 1989. Microids and Anuman Interactive have given the game a lick of paint and packaged it up for 2012, with the PC version finally being released long after its iOS counterparts.
The game is currently exclusively distribute on PC by Big Fish Games, but will hit other distribution channels after one week. Updates are also in the pipeline, set to include a much needed multiplayer mode that should extend the longeivity of the game considerably.
A week ago FUNimation uploaded a couple of new trailers for their English dub of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt and a few inquisitive fans found that both of these videos were tagged with Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. Now with FUNimation’s heavy lobbying for Panty & Stocking to appear on Adult Swim and obvious fan support, anime fans wanted to know what this could have meant.
Well, Scott Lonski, the Communications & Events Manager with Funimation made a statement to ANN concerning these tags:
The tags on the clips are put in purely for search reasons, so nothing should be inferred. We think fans of Adult Swim would be interested in the clips, nothing more, nothing less. While we have sent screeners of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt to Cartoon Network for their review, we do not have an update as to whether or not they have chosen to add the title to their anime lineup.
It seems that for now all fans of the series can do is pick up the uncensored English release in a few weeks when it comes out on July 10th. Or y’know, do so now here.
Today Viz Media announced that they will soon be launching a 24-hour anime streaming service for a major game console which has yet to be revealed, though will probably be the 360 or PS3 at this point. The service will be launched this fall under the name Neon Alley and is currently only set to be available to those in United States and Canada.
Neon Valley will air uncut, English dubbed anime with HD presentations to those with TVs capable of handling such broadcasts. A number of English premiers will be occurring as well, with Tiger & Bunny, Inuyasha: The Final Act, Zetman, Lagrange – The Flower of Rin-ne airing for the first time ever on the service. Now the service will unfortunately not be free, as Neon Valley will cost subscribers a monthly fee of $6.99.
While Square Enix’s Sleeping Dogs title will be released in North America just fine, it seems that the Japanese version of the game is going to have a number of changes. First of all the game will be titled Sleeping Dogs Hong Kong Secret Police and it has been given a CERO Z rating, meaning that the title is for adults only.
The title will also have a number of event scenes cut, like a scene where a person’s organs are exposed, a scene involving sexual references and also the street race signal girl was removed. Interestingly enough, gamers will also be penalized for hurting civilians in the Japanese version of the game. No worries about the English version however, there will be no penalties instilled upon civilian damage.
While bite-sized pieces of DLC can be nice every once and awhile, there are only a few companies who will actually develop fully fleshed out pieces of DLC that will not only expand upon a game’s universe but also provide hours of content for gamers to enjoy. Thankfully Bethesda is one of those companies and is planning on continuing to do so after the release of Dawnguard.
In an interview with I Eat Games, lead Skyrim artist Matt Carofano explained that Dawnguard came into being after an idea session after the end of Game Jam. Gamers can probably expect more DLC in the future, but Carofano explains that “Well honestly we’re so focused on this DLC. Then I’m sure we’ll be making some more DLC in the future, and then after that we’ll see what happens.”
