Wonderbook Arrives In Australia

Wonderbook, Sony Computer Entertainment’s new AR peripheral for the Playstation Move, has finally arrived in Australia. Alongside the release of the physical peripheral, the first title in the Wonderbook range, Book of Spells, is also available. Book of Spells brings exclusive new and original writing from J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, as players learn familiar spells from the world of Harry Potter, such as Incendio, Wingardium Leviosa and Expelliarmus.

J.K Rowling had this to say about working with Book of Spells:

“Wonderbook: Book of Spells is the closest a Muggle can come to a real spellbook. I’ve loved working with Sony’s creative team to bring my spells, and some of the history behind them, to life. This is an extraordinary device that offers a reading experience like no other.”

Book of Spells is not the only title that will be compatible with Wonderbook. The BBC hit Walking with Dinosaurs will also be coming to Wonderbook, as well as content from Disney. Moonbot Studios, who have won awards for their animated content, will bring Diggs Nightcrawler to Wonderbook, bringing the film noir genre with it.

Virtue’s Last Reward watches put on sale for Hurricane Sandy relief

Aksys Games offered a very nice pre-order bonus for Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward in the form of an awesome looking watch which was made to resemble the in-game watch that would kill the characters if their points hit zero. Now these watches were limited and many people missed out on the watch if they didn’t pre-order right away.

However Aksys is going to offer everyone a chance to still pick up a watch and also help out people in need. Currently Aksys is selling these watches for $20 though it is worth noting that you can only buy one per customer, so if you want to collect all three of the random colors shown above, you’re out of luck.

As for helping out people in need, every penny raised from selling these watches will be donated to the Red Cross where they will use the money to help Hurricane Sandy victims. Not only do you receive a great piece of video game memorabilia but also help out a great cause, so why not take a look at the purchase page here.

Modern Combat 4 Hands-On Preview

Shooter games are one of the most popular genres, and Modern Combat is arguably one of the most well made apps for the iOS. Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour is the newest installment set for release, where you are set up against a rogue private organization.

I had a chance to play a few missions of Modern Combat 4, and it is damn addictive. It improves on the graphics and physics of old Modern Combat games, and even though the controls do take some getting used to, and sometimes this will cause you to blunder in high pressure situations, but after a while you do end up getting used to them and adjusting.

Modern Combat 4 certainly follows in its predecessors’ shoes and is one of the most genuine looking and feeling shooter games on the iOS device. It’s the sort of game that would be best played on the iPad, so that you get more room to control, you can see enemies better, and you get more of a feel for the game.

The storyline of the game does seem more interesting than what most would expect from a shooter though. It starts with you storming the beach because a group of mercs have taken some politicians hostage at a conference. As the missions go on you actually get to play as the leader of the mercenaries, which provides an interesting flip on the situation and gives those with evil streaks (like me) a chance to experience the other side of things.

Often it is a case of being in an environment, ducking behind cover and taking out however many enemies there are in the area, then going on to the next area. It doesn’t pose much of a challenge, but that was in the beginning, and it will probably become more hectic as the game progresses.

Although I only tried out the campaign mode, the multiplayer mode will be just as prominently featured as it was in the previous game. Except even better, since Gameloft are ensuring that hacking will be a far harder task straight from the day of release.

This is definitely a game to look out for if you’re a fan of shooters and don’t mind giving them a go on a mobile device.

Keep an eye out on the site for more information about Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour as it comes out.

F1 Race Stars Now Available in Australia and New Zealand

Codemasters Racing has announced that F1 Race Stars is now available for race fans down in Australia and New Zealand.  Not only that but those looking to try before they buy will want to check out the demo that has been released for the game too.  But that’s not all in terms of content for the game today as those wanting to see before they try before they buy can check out the two trailers showing off some of the power ups.

As most can see, the trailer opts for a non-conventional style of mimicking a TV infomercial to show off what the KERS Boost has to offer in terms of gameplay and what players should be able to expect from it.  Which is a pretty novel idea to fit well into the style the game is designed around, but hold up as they also released a second similar trailer about another power up, the Bottle Rocket, embedded just below.

F1 Race Stars features the real F1 racing stars in a fun new way with the aforementioned power ups, as well as jumps, loops, and barrel-rolls.  With up to 4-player split screen and 12-player online, racers can contest each other on 11 different tracks inspired by real ones.

Those interested can check out F1 Race Stars on in Australia and New Zealand for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Sims 3 Seasons Released in Australia

The latest Sims 3 expansion Seasons has finally hit down under in Australia for the tail end of Spring, but luckily still before Summer.  This is pretty good news as the expansion will allow players to enjoy activities in any of the seasons, so those sick of the heat can help keep cool by sending their Sims to some winter activities.

From Winter activities like snowboarding to fairer weather ones like soccer and roller-skating, players can let their Sims enjoy a vast multitude of options across all the seasons.  It would look odd during those activities though without the appropriate conditions, which the expansion also includes, from fresh snow to sun-shiny days.  Likewise those Sims can take part in festivals and events to get into whatever holiday’s spirit especially as they draw closer to us.

Released today players can find The Sims 3 Seasons in retailers across Australia or online through EA’s game distribution program Origin for either digital download or physical purchase.

Pocket Festival Blares onto App Store

Got the ear or touch for music?  Players interested in showing off their musical prowess may want to look into the new freemium Chillingo game that just made it to the App Store, Pocket Festival.  The best part of any music show isn’t just the music that’s played, but the experience of the show itself, which is where the player comes in.  Tasked with taking a festival from a simple start up to the premier event, the game includes over 40 bands to unlock and get to play at the show, while customizing it to look exactly how you’d want.

The best part though is that players get to utilize their own music, so there’s no reason not to enjoy what’s playing.  Any iOS games like these without social situations would seem severely lacking, so Pocket Festival allows for visiting friends festivals or crashing rivals festivals with Mud Bombs, giving players have a multitude of venues to enjoy outside their own.

Players wanting to find out more can watch the trailer embedded below and afterwards check out the game available for FREE on the iOS App Store HERE.
