Homestuck invades Supanova Sydney

homestuck-supanova-sydney
Supanova Sydney 2013 was home to all manner of fandoms, be it Doctor Who or even Attack on Titan. But perhaps the most enthusiastic of all the fandoms present was the Homestuck fans. In particular Supanova witnessed a mass gathering of Homestuck fans that comprise the NSW Homestuck fangroup known as ‘Chalkstuck’.

The ‘Chalkstuck’ group took to the convention spreading their love of Homestuck throughout, horn-clad and beautifully bizarre in every single way. Their affection for Homestuck was easily evident, living up to their claim that they are ‘the best fandom’ out.

You can check out the very passionate Homestuck fangroup ‘Chalkstuck’ on their official Facebook and their official Tumblr pages.

For those of you uninitiated into the crazy world of Homestuck, it is an interactive web-comic which can be read on MSPaint Adventures here. It all revolves around the strange goings-on in the life of John Egbert a teenager who survives a meteor attack and is subsequently transported to another planet. The series has spawned a very dedicate fanbase and their flash-mob like showing at Supanova Sydney was a testament to that passion.

Hanabee Licenses Daily Lives of High School Boys

Just your regular, day to day life

Hanabee Entertainment has announced, at Supanova 2013, that they have licensed the series Daily Lives of High School Boys. Directed by Shinji Takamatsu, director of Gintama and School Rumble, the series adapts Yasunobu Yamauchi’s manga and explores the lives of three highschoolers.

Welcome to the daily lives of Tadakuni, Hidenori and Yoshitake, students at the all-boys academy of Sanada North High School! Here in this story you will not find any world revolutions, a teenaged hero in crisis, a star crossed love story or giant fighting robots…well, not in reality anyway. (In the mind of an average teenage boy however, the possibilities are endless.) Instead take a step back and embrace the wild fun teenage life has to offer over trivial pursuits and inane thoughts (just who exactly is the better looking one in the group?) and in the knowledge that sometimes reality can be stranger than fiction.

The entire 12 episode series, along with bonus Tokuten OVA, is set to be released on June 31st. Daily Lives of High School Boys will be a DVD only release and will not receive an English dub, instead featuring the original Japanese audio. High school life has never seemed so strange when it’s been so average.

Hanabee licenses Revolutionary Girl Utena

Hanabee Entertainment have just announced at Supanova Sydney 2013 that they have acquired the licence for the cult-classic anime series Revolutionary Girl Utena. Directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara of Sailor Moon and Penguindrum fame, Revolutionary Girl Utena is a must watch anime to say the very least.

The series is slated to be released in 3 parts all housed in a lovely collector’s box bundled with a detailed booklet on the series. Part 1 will release on 18TH SEPTEMBERPart 2 will release on 16th OCTOBER and Part 3 will release on 20TH NOVEMBER.

A chivalrous pink-haired adventuress will revolutionize the world!

“Never lose that strength or nobility, even when you grow up.” When Utena was just a child and in the depths of sorrow, she found salvation in those words. They were the words of a prince, who wrapped her in his rose-scented embrace and bestowed upon her both a ring and the promise that it would lead her to him again. She never forgot the encounter. In fact, she was so impressed that she aspired to be like the prince and also help those in need.

Now a spirited teenager, Utena attends the prestigious Ohtori Academy. However, her strong sense of chivalry soon places her at odds with the school’s student council and thrusts her into a series of mysterious and dangerous duels against its members.

This is the first time Revolutionary Girl Utena and its entire 39 episodes will be released in Australia. To put the cherry on top, the release will feature dual audio with an English dub alongside the original Japanese audio.
