Frenetic FPS roguelike Cyber Rail receives new trailer and updated demo

Cyberpunk meets steampunk as you grapple, slide, and swing aboard a flying diesel train!

West Lafayette, Indiana – September 1st, 2026 – Torn Ace Studios has just released an updated demo of their upcoming frenetic roguelike FPS Cyber Rail on Steam. This debuted alongside an all new trailer featured in the Best Indie Games Fall Showcase today, offering a glimpse at the kinds of cybernetic stagecoach shootouts that await when Cyber Rail launches next year.

This extended demo offers additional weapons, new difficulty mechanics, a complete UI overhaul, immersive movement SFX, and improved optimization.

In Cyber Rail speed is survival. Master a precise movement system where you must grapple, slide, wall-run, and sprint through caravans teeming with bionic brigands. With hordes of enemies targeting you from all directions and perilous falls around every corner, a well-timed slide or grapple can mean the difference between life and death.

Assemble your unique arsenal between rounds with the in-game shop. Cyber Rail’s futuristic guns each come with their own unique abilities and secondary fire modes. A boomerang can be teleported to, an SMG deals extra damage to marked enemies, and a handcannon can split its ammo in two, dealing damage to nearby foes. Whether you’re cracking skulls with the revolver or mowing down groups with the SMG, there’s always a new way to lay waste to your robotic adversaries!

Radically tweak your cybernetic bronco with a bandolier of items offering passive perks. Equip a shield to protect while reloading, or use malware to add blight damage to nearby enemies causing damage over time. Fine tune your kit to suit your playstyle or experiment with a new arsenal, ensuring that each round will offer a unique combat experience.

Cyber Rail was developed from the ground up with speedrunning at its core. Blaze through the cavalry of killer robots to ascend the leaderboards with the best time!

Cyber Rail is our love letter to classic shooters, where you move and shoot at the speed of thought and unload on anything that moves,” said Noah Henson, Audio and Game Design Lead at Torn Ace Studios. “With a roguelike balance is important, we want to ensure our audience has ample time to give us feedback as we continue to develop Cyber Rail. That’s why we’re releasing such a generous demo this early, so we can eventually launch Cyber Rail as a polished, complete package on day one.”

About Torn Ace Studios:
Torn Ace Studios is a four-person indie team made up of art lead Blake Edwards, audio and game design lead Noah Henson, interior and prop artist Joe Rohm, and programmer William Zollman. Having met as university students at Purdue, their first commercial release will be the roguelike movement shooter Cyber Rail, coming to Steam in 2027.

Mad Metal, the dark vehicle combat shooter where you slow time and shoot individual components off enemy vehicles, launches on Steam September 21.

Don’t Wreck the Car. Take It Apart.

TORONTO, ON — September 1, 2026. They took his wife. They have his daughter. The machines that inherited America are not trying to kill anyone, which is the worst part. Mad Metal is a dark vehicle combat shooter about one man, one car and a very short list of options, and it launches on Steam on Monday, September 21. It was built solo by founder Hakim Elayday at Mad Mechs Inc. and published by indie.io, and it has a free demo live on Steam.

Nearly every vehicle combat game treats a car as a health bar on wheels. Mad Metal treats it as a collection of parts, each destructible on its own, and that single decision changes what a fight is. Time slows, and the shot becomes surgical. Puncture a fuel tank and let the explosion finish the job. Break a door open and the driver is suddenly the target. Rip a wheel off and something that was hunting you a second ago slides to a stop. Mad Mechs calls it Dead Aim, and it is why ramming gets you nowhere here. A chase stops being a collision and becomes a decision about what to take away first. When it goes badly, you can settle it from the cabin, watching heat and ammo on the dash in first person and drawing a sidearm once the primary weapon quits.

Set in the 2080s, after AI corporations built machines that started making decisions no human authorized, the world of Mad Metal runs on abduction rather than slaughter. People are converted into a half-human, half-machine race built to inherit whatever is left. Jack is one of the few who hasn’t been taken, and the car is the only advantage he has.

What he drives is up to the player. Every part carries a cost in weight and aerodynamics, so a build is a set of trade-offs rather than a shopping list. Nine base vehicles and more than eighty attachments feed a full Create Your Own Car builder, and each attachment changes how the vehicle sounds and handles. Augments picked up mid-run push a build somewhere unplanned. Sonar tracks enemies through walls, caltrops stop a pursuer and a jetpack buys the high ground, while boss encounters exist to find the gap in whatever you brought.

Players will discover that there is more than one way to survive, with multiple game modes. Play through eight narrated campaign missions that put your driving and combat skills to the ultimate test as you race to save your daughter. Extraction sends two of you against escalating waves that end in a boss fight and an airlift out, assuming you make the zone. Deathmatch is simpler and meaner, a 1v1 fight to the death. And in open-world invasion, you drop into someone else’s world, where the interesting part is that you choose whether to arrive as friend or foe. Match with players of similar skill for casual or competitive play in ranked and unranked MMR.

The soundtrack reacts to the state of the car, shifting as the vehicle takes damage. It was produced with Scarlet Moon’s Jayson Napolitano and features singer/songwriter Stefani Keogh alongside musicians Frank van ‘t Ende and Idem Grey.

The demo is live on Steam now with multiplayer included, and MMR earned in the demo carries into the full game. Mad Metal launches on Steam on September 21, 2026.

Tripwire Presents Signs Agreement with Second Shift Games to Publish Starforged Legacy, Now in Early Access on PC via Steam

Sci-fi Action Roguelike with Bullet Hell Elements Gets ‘Hangar & Arsenal’ Update, Adding an All-new Game Mode, Ships, Weapons and More

ROSWELL, Ga. — Sept. 1, 2026. Tripwire Presents, the developer-first publishing division of Tripwire Interactive, today announced plans to globally publish Starforged Legacy, created by a team of industry veterans at independent developer Second Shift Games. Starforged Legacy is a single-player sci-fi action roguelike game in which players pilot a variety of experimental warships across a 2D combat plane as they battle through a series of increasingly difficult missions while creating new builds from gathered resources including weapons, augments and Ship Upgrades, turning smart positioning and buildcraft into a late-run power fantasy. The game launched on PC via Steam Early Access on June 1 and is available for purchase for $7.99. Currently boasting an 88% positive user score, the title offers a free demo featuring three ships, six loadouts, two difficulties and a limited Skill Tree.

Second Shift Games has also released free new content with the Hangar & Arsenal update. Headlining the update is Combat Circuit, a focused twelve-sector mode that trades Star Map navigation for a faster fight, extract and shop loop. Players choose routes that shape each coming sector and its rewards, decide when to begin extraction as enemy pressure rises, face bosses in sectors six and twelve and can Press On into Endless after victory.

The update also adds three new ships with four loadouts each along with four unique weapons. Loadouts are curated starting builds that give ships a distinct opening playstyle, but do not limit how a player chooses to build from there. New weapons include the Flak Cannon, a close-range weapon with high spread designed to thin nearby enemies, the Arc Cutter, which fires a sweeping beam that penetrates targets as it sweeps across, the Gravity Missile, firing a projectile that creates a small gravity well before detonating, and the Compression Field, expanding around the players ship before contracting and relocating surviving enemies. New ships include:

  • STARWARD: Guardian Frigate: A fast escort frigate whose self-fabricating Aegis capacitors intercept incoming fire and strike enemies that breach its orbit. Features the FLAKSCREEN, RINGWALKER, BREAKER CIRCUIT and BREAKWATER loadouts.
  • SUNDER: Riftblade Cruiser: An assault cruiser that tears space open with every Micro Warp, carving a damaging corridor through the enemy formation. Features the FAULTLINE, SHOCK FRONT, EPICENTER and RUPTURE loadouts.
  • DREADWING: Retaliatory Carrier: A retaliatory carrier that deploys growing Fighter wings as its Shields fail, then recalls and rebuilds them as its defenses recover. Featuring the SCRAMBLE, OUTER RING, CRUSH DEPTH and DEAD RECKONING loadouts.

Starforged Legacy is a single-player, sci-fi action roguelike bullet hell experience where players must forge a single starcraft into a fleet-leveling warship through the combination of salvaged weaponry and strategy-defining augmentations. Navigate across a 2D combat plane, weave through asteroid fields, aid galactic denizens and use resources collected from each failed expedition to become permanently stronger. The ultimate goal is survival; the legacy left behind is inevitable.

Features:

  • Intense Bullet-Hell Combat: Obliterate endless swarms of combatants on the journey to challenge the enemy flagship. Evade devastating bombardments with unique movement abilities and return fire automatically or manually.
  • Customizable Starcraft: Master nine ships, each with four distinct starting loadouts, armaments and combat styles. Customize each ship’s systems to fine-tune the strategy with unlockable alternate loadouts.
  • Weapon and Ship Augmentation: Forge endless builds with 16 core weapons and over 190 augments and enhancements.
  • Galactic Navigation: Navigate a galaxy that changes with every expedition—traverse sectors with treacherous, gameplay-altering conditions to complete missions that are no less dangerous.
  • Meta Progression: Exchange salvaged resources for permanent enhancements, new starcraft, and more across future runs.
  • Dynamic Narrative Events: Gamble for glory across 30+ unique encounters. Measured risks could reap vital rewards or fatal consequences.

WheelMates, Two-Player Co-Op Adventure with RC Cars, is OUT on Steam

Set off as two tiny cars on an adventure through the home of a missing scientist. Play the full game with Friend’s Pass

September 1, 2026WheelMates, the 2-player co-op driving adventure from developer Firevolt, launches today on Steam for PC. Built for two players, the game puts a pair of tiny RC cars at the center of a house filled with puzzles, hidden routes, and the mystery surrounding missing scientist.

After an experiment goes wrong, Professor Everett Bloom sends out a call for help. Through special neuro-headsets, players enter two tiny RC cars and set off through his home laboratory in search of the missing scientist.

At toy-car scale, ordinary rooms take on a completely different shape. The further players venture into the house the more sides of it they discover: from familiar rooms to hidden routes and places that feel far removed from an ordinary home.

Getting around in WheelMates changes as the adventure unfolds. Magnetic wheels and the swing rope take the cars off the floor, helping them reach hard-to-access corners of the house. Car upgrades like the magnetic grabber and paint gun add new ways to work through puzzles together.

Car abilities open up familiar rooms in new ways: paths that were out of reach before, and secrets players may have missed the first time around. A closer look around the house also turns up customization parts, giving players more ways to change the look of their cars.

The WheelMates journey is built around figuring things out together. But there’s also room for some friendly competition: mini-games scattered throughout the house give both players a chance to see who’s actually the better driver.

WheelMates is a 2-player experience with both online co-op and local split-screen. Friend’s Pass is included, allowing two people to play the full adventure together with only one copy of the game.

WheelMates is available now on Steam for PC, with Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch versions planned for 2027.

About FireVolt

Firevolt focused on cooperative experiences. 2026 will see the launch of its first original title, 2-player co-op driving adventure, WheelMates, with additional titles in development.
