Earlier this year it was announced by XSEED Games that Rune Factory 4 would be hitting store shelves sometime this summer. However it seems that the company wants to make sure that the game is going to launch as polished as possible.
Over on Facebook an XSEED representative stated that “The game is absolutely massive and taking much longer to QA (play through the English for quality assurance) than we originally anticipated. Right now we could be looking at a late September or October release, but it will definitely be worth the wait.”
This means that although the title will end up missing the summer release window, a delay for quality assurance is always appreciated in a day where launch day patches are quite common.

We may traverse barren, icy wastelands in video games, but do we ever stop to consider what our survival rate would be if it were real life? In those extreme, freezing, unforgiving conditions? Well now, you can find out.
The temperature on E.D.N. III – Lost Planet 3‘s setting – is a lethal minus-120 degrees Celsius…the frozen planet can easily become a mass grave-site, but not if Jim Peyton has anything to say about it. The latest video from NEVEC, viewable directly below, gives a chilling account of the human body’s reactions to severe cold, both mental and physical. When I say chilling…that’s not just a pun, I mean it! It explains, step by step, what happens internally when your body temperature drops below the normal 37 degrees celcius. Black, deadened extremities and rupturing eyeballs in their sockets…no thank you! Trip to Antarctica cancelled!
Frozen to Death
If you would like to find out whether you are fit enough to survive E.D.N. III’s deadly temperatures, you can take this testand find out how your skills compare to some of the greatest survival stories in history, including that of famous astronaut Jim Lovell and rock-climber Aron Ralston.
Capcom‘s Lost Planet 3 is scheduled for release August 29, on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and as a PC digital download with a retail PC version coming on September 26.
If you thought that the addition of a character from the Atelier series was going to make Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate literally the “ultimate” Warriors game, well here’s a new addition for you. Today it was revealed that Namco Bandai’s Sophitia Alexandra will be joining the roster of fighters from other series including Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, and Ninja Gaiden.
Sophitia’s character model will be the same one used in Soulcalibur IV and you can see her taking on numerous foes in true Warriors fashion. It has also been revealed that another character named Nata will be included in Tecmo Koei‘s Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate when it is released on the PS3 and Vita on September 26th in Japan.

For me one of the greatest things about PAX Australia was that local Indie developers got to chance to show their creations to a massive audience. They were given a large portion of the show floor to set up their own professional looking booths and demonstrate their game in a relaxed setting to the masses. Talking to these guys and seeing the passion they have for their creation is inspirational and amazing to see. I took some time to hang out at a couple of these booths and get to know who these indie devs were, what they were all about and what they had to show. My first stop was at the Considerable Content booth.
A two man team made up of designer Edward Blanch and software engineer Scott Beca, the Melbourne duo were there to showcase there latest creation and first major release, Cargo Chaos. The game centers around you stacking a number of different crates of varying sizes and properties (for example, a circular crate that rolls everywhere or a container of animals that jumps around) onto a ship and then keeping those blocks on board the ship as it sails across the sea to the docks. This isn’t as easy as it sounds however as the ship isn’t infinite in size and the sea it has to traverse isn’t exactly calm. It’s up to the player to stack the blocks in a way that will minimize movement so that when the ship begins travelling across the rough sea the shipping containers won’t fall into the ocean and you will get to keep your multiplier.
Cargo Chaos packs in 30 levels with each one increasing slightly in difficulty. Trying to get 5 bells on anything past the levels at the beginning is a tough (but fun) challenge. I was interested to ask what the inspiration for the game was and Scott was happy to share that with us:
“We came up with the idea of stacking blocks on a moving object. It was just a moving platform, we didn’t exactly know what it was, then we were like O.K, where can we go from here? What kind of setting generates a moving platform? And that’s where the boat moving over the ocean came from. From there it became how can we make this more interesting instead of just blocks. So we took some inspiration from Tetris and other games like it and made the blocks crazy and have different properties and it just kept growing from there.”
I also asked what was next for Considerable Content now that Cargo Chaos has been completed.
“With Cargo Chaos we wanted to do something that we knew we could finish to show that we can finish a game and to have something out there. Now we’re going to continue bug testing Cargo Chaos and possibly provide future enhancements depending on how well it does and if the business case is there.
The next game we’re working on is Postman’s Odyssey. It’s a 3D atmospherical, exploration platformer. It’s set in a wierd world about a postman that’s been teleported there and he doesn’t know why. He works out he has mail to deliver and he wants to know why he has this mail and what his doing there and so will the player. You will basically be exploring this world with alot of free movement and you will gain alot of abilities to help you do this. You will start off with a single jump then you will get a double jump, later on you might even get a triple jump or the ability to glide. In it’s most basic form we wanted to really tap into the idea of that feeling in a game when you see something in the distance and you wonder can I get there. We don’t want to do anything like invisible walls we just want you to able to explore. “
You can check out the trailer for Cargo Chaos below and if you like what you see you can download Cargo Chaos for iPhone and iPad from the App Store and for Android from theGoogle Play Store. If you would like to stay in touch with Considerable Content and what they are up to, support them by liking their Facebook or visit their official website to see developer diaries, blogs and more. While your here, feel free to read on to our other Indie Spotlight which focuses on Studio Grow and their game Grow.
PAX Australia was an amazing opportunity for local Indie developers to show their heart felt titles to a massive audience. They were treated like established game companies with their own professional booths and a large portion of the show floor. I throughly enjoyed talking to some of the developers at these booths and getting a real feel for what they were all about and what games they had created. It was truly inspiring and a fantastic experience, one that I hope carries through to next year’s PAX Aus.
Studio Grow is a four man studio based in Melbourne. Andey is the designer and also takes care of textures, user interface and other bits and pieces. John is another designer and takes care of the levels as well as the particle effects. Jacob is the lead animator as well as the creator of any promotional material and Tim takes care of all the hardcore programming and ensures that the servers are working as they should. They are currently working on their first commercial release, simply titled Grow.
Grow is being developed for the PC and was easily one of my favourite games of the show. Grow is best described as an online, multiplayer brawler with monsters that can evolve by eating different types of food. You start out with the basic monster known as Nom and by eating enough food, can then evolve that monster to gain a new look, new attacks and new abilities. You can focus on eating a certain sort of food to gain an advantage in a certain area (for example, eating meat will evolve Nom into a Growl who is big and bulky and has high attack power), or mix and match different combinations to suit your playstle. The game has a bright and colourful palette and features great 3D models that bring alot of life to the monster characters. Up to 32 players will be able to battle it out against other monsters online when the game releases.
One thing I was curious about was the inspiration for the game. This is Andey had to say on the matter.
“The list of inspirations is so huge. The one’s we always list are Pokemon and Team Fortress 2. We have the evolution thing going on from Pokemon and the whole battle situation going on from TF2 where it’s really aggressive and stuffs flying everywhere and it’s class based. Plenty of other Nintendo titles as well such as Super Mario Sunshine.”
The heart and passion being put into Grow is truly amazing and it was a joy to talk to the team as they explained the various aspects of the game. I walked away from the stand with a great impression of Grow, my Nom trading/business card and really wanting one of those cute plushies the team had created for PAX.
If you’re interested in Grow, the video below helps explain all the mechanics and gives an oversight of the game. So far there is no release date but the team is working hard to bring it to you as fast as possible. If you like what you see, feel free to support the developers by liking their Facebook or visit their official website and click on the about button if you would like to download an early build for free. While your here, feel free to read on to our other Indie Spotlight which focuses on Considerable Content and Cargo Chaos which was just recently released on mobile devices.

It seems that despite apparently having disappointing sales, only selling 3.4 million copies compared to Square Enix‘s apparently ridiculous expectations, a sequel to the Tomb Raider reboot is “well into development.” This news comes from Square Enix CEO for the Americas and Europe Phil Rogers in a note he made for the community over on Square Enix’s blog.
This is great news as not only could the series benefit from being able to harness the next-generation capabilities of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but the first game in the series was also critically acclaimed, as our own review of the game says here.
