PlayStation 4 Preps for Next Week with New Videos

With a little more than a week to go before the PS4 is finally released, Sony is getting everything ready for that final marketing push. Releasing a new features trailer and the TV commercial for the new console today, it shows off just a taste of what the console has and focuses more on the sleek design of the console and its components. Check out the commercial just below.

The commercial plays it pretty safe, showing off the main iconography that Sony and the PlayStation brand is known for particularly the logos, but it is the features trailer that was also released that re-iterates the hardware that the PS4 is packing. From the RAM, to the processor, from the hard drive, to the disk drive, the video gives the low down on the components that the PS4 will be shipping out with.

Those wanting to check out the features trailer for themselves can find it embedded below. The PlayStation 4 will be releasing on November 15th, 2013 for $399.99.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Multiplayer Features Trailer

Although the game has already been released onto current gen consoles, with the release of the next gen consoles this month Ubisoft is still putting out trailers to show off what all Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has to offer and today it is all about multiplayer.

While the trailer does cover some of the same old features that have been in the previous multiplayers, there are some new additions as well. Some of the new features in multiplayer this time around include new abilities like Time Phase that slows down time in a select area for everyone but the user, but the biggest addition is the Game Lab. Finally allowing players more options in customizing multiplayer games, Game Lab offers more than 200 options for players to tweak, from scorings to available abilities.

The trailer itself is embedded just below for those wanting to see it for themselves, while Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is now available for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC, and set to release November 15th for PS4 and November 22nd for Xbox One.

RUNESCAPE’S ANNUAL FESTIVITIES LOOK BACK ON SUCCESSFUL YEAR AS DIE-HARD PLAYERS GET EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW OF PLANS FOR 2014

Monday 4th November 2013, Cambridge, UK – Jagex Games Studio, makers of the multi-award winning online adventure game, RuneScape, held its third RuneFest fan convention in London on Saturday. Hundreds of passionate RuneScape players flocked in person to London, joined virtually by hundreds of thousands of players online to celebrate another great year for RuneScape, which amongst other updates also saw the launch of RuneScape 3 and the dawn of the 6th Age.

As with previous years, RuneFest 3 provided the RuneScape team with the opportunity to meet with fans and discuss plans for the coming year, support players as they took part in ideas workshops for future content, and unveil an exclusive sneak peak of what’s planned for RuneScape in 2014 – which included:

  • The Invention Skill, which is a partner to the recently launched Divination skill and represents a technological leap forward within the game.  This skill will allow players create their own gear and “soul weapons” which can be levelled up to increase their power as players progress through the game.
  • The RuneScape Community App, which will allow players to chat and access the Grand Exchange, RuneScape’s trading system, through their mobile devices.
  • A preview of the 2nd World Event which has been confirmed to involve the two gods Armadyl and Bandos, who will be travelling across the world map trying to gain followers and influence.  Players will also be able to opt into innovative open world PVP.
  • Upgraded matchmaking which will allow players to easily find other player who are interested in playing specific social content, allowing them put together teams easily without interrupting their gameplay.
  • Players were shown a glimpse of two new quests – The 200th quest which will focus on the Elves and a new Master quest featuring the return of Zaros.
  •  “The Church of YOU” – Over the past decade players have been central to all RuneScape content and are the world guardians, now they can start to amass their own followers to worship their in-game achievements.

The event also saw all attendees participate in setting a new Guinness World Record for the world’s longest Christmas cracker pulling chain.

“RuneFest 3 has been yet another massive celebration for all things RuneScape, and we’re delighted that so many of our community were able to share in the experience, either online or at the event itself,” said Jagex CEO, Mark Gerhard. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for the team and I to celebrate our biggest fans, namely our players. We always look forward to having the opportunity to socialise with the community, have a good laugh, celebrate their achievements and find out first-hand what they love or dislike about the game, which in turn helps shape our thinking around future updates. I’m delighted that this year’s event added yet another Guinness World Record to our collection and really looking forward to next year!”

“RuneScape’s fan base and passionate community has always been one of the game’s enduring and great strengths, and RuneFest has again delivered a fantastic opportunity for us to engage with the most ardent of players,” said Phil Mansell, Executive Producer for RuneScape. “As we come to the end of a hugely important year for RuneScape with the launch of RuneScape 3 we were thrilled to share what’s ahead in 2014 with players.”

MGS V: Ground Zeroes to be Separate Release from The Phantom Pains

Since it was first being teased Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has always been a little up in the air as to what it would be. The most logical conclusion was that it was simply the prologue to the events of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, similar to how prologues previously had a different title to set them apart from the main events.

While a good idea, it appears that this idea was both true and not as Konami and Kojima Productions have finally revealed just how Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain will relate. In short, that Ground Zeroes will be the prologue to the main events, but in a completely separate retail release.

MGS V: The Phantom Pain and the FOX Engine are apparently such a change in gameplay and mechanics, that the developers felt it necessary to create a separate introductory release to prep players for the full release. So, Metal Gear Solid: Grounds Zeroes will be releasing on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, and PS4 for in Spring 2014 for just $29.99, or just $19,99 as a current gen digital download.

KONAMI UNVEILS THE METAL GEAR SOLID V EXPERIENCE

KONAMI and Kojima Productions Define the Relationship Between METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES and METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

EL SEGUNDO, CA   November 4, 2013 – Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. has released details for METAL GEAR SOLID V, the two-game experience comprised of METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES and METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will launch Spring 2014 as a prologue to the events leading into METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. This prologue brings all of the hallmarks of the renowned franchise in a concentrated story mode that guides players into the new gameplay mechanics against the backdrop of the expansive METAL GEAR SOLID universe.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES features new advances made possible by Kojima Productions’ FOX Engine, such as radical new game design, day and night cycles, and weather conditions that will all dynamically affect gameplay. The missions are designed to ease players into the new control and gameplay advances that will be an integral part of METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.

The METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES storyline follows the series’ hero, Big Boss, as he infiltrates a remote Cuban prison camp on a rescue mission, all while trying to remain undetected. Explosive plot lines develop quickly as he finds himself on behind enemy lines with little options for help.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN will pick up where METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES leaves off and will plunge players into a new breed of open-world stealth action, featuring deep story arcs and dynamic gameplay as expected of a canon chapter in the METAL GEAR SOLID series. Both titles will be released for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system and Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, highlighting the groundbreaking capabilities the FOX Engine brings to current and next generation consoles.

“The advanced capabilities of the FOX Engine are allowing me to express the story of METAL GEAR SOLID in a new way,” explained Hideo Kojima, Creator of the METAL GEAR SOLID series, and head of Kojima Productions. “There will be a significant difference in what METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game offers. As such, METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES has been designed to introduce key elements, while setting up the events of METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.”

METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will be released in Spring 2014 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One systems. The game will be available in retail stores nationwide on current generation systems for the MSRP of $29.99 or via download for $19.99. For PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the game can be downloaded for $29.99 suggested retail price.

Kill la Kill Episode 5 Impressions

Kill-la-Kill-Episode-5-01
Badass

Kill la Kill
Episode 5: Trigger

So last week Kill la Kill took a bit of a plot divergence and showcased the ridiculous humour that comprises a majority of the series. However, this week we’re back in action as a new badass character joins the fray. Now when somebody dramatically drives down the road on a motorcycle you immediately know that they are cool. It’s one of the rules of anime or something. Arriving at Hannouji, this mysterious mohawked man pieces together his high powered sniper rifle and takes aim at…Ryuko?

He is soon interrupted by the Gardening Club and their Two Star leader, all of whom are slightly ticked off that he walked through their flower bed in his pursuit of a vantage point. Unleashing the fast growth power of the Two Star gardening uniform, a plethora of precocious piranha plants pursue the powerful perpetrator. Now, as we have learnt from previous episodes, it’s a bad idea to challenge any Star Uniform without one of your own…it usually doesn’t end well. But not everyone is as badass as Tsumugu Kinagase. Avoiding the horticulturalist from hell, Kinagase unleashes a barrage of nails which have a power draining effect on uniforms, which is a very handy ability to have in Hannouji. Long story short, the Garden Club takes a dirt nap and Kinagase nets himself a new Life Fibre.

Kill-la-Kill-Episode-5-02
For science!

We now return to our regularly scheduled protagonist…

It appears that once again Mako has been kidnapped by an evil school club and is being used as bait to lure Ryuko into a trap. It doesn’t work, but the bad guys certainly are persistent…or stupid, get those two confused sometimes. With clubs constantly on the offensive, Ryuko has grown stronger and, unfortunately, a little overconfident in her abilities. But with new skills, like being able to shrink the Scissor Blade down to regular scissor size, who can blame her. In the middle of a lunch celebrating their victory, Mako is peppered with needles and taken out of action. Don’t worry though, when she wakes up any fatigue she had will be alleviated, any sickness cured and she will be full of vim and vigour. Anyway, mohawk takes this time to attack Ryuko and politely, but forcefully, asks her to remove her clothes. Just as he is about to take Senketsu, Kinagase is interrupted by a note tied to a pin…thrown into his hand. Promising to return, Ryuko barely escapes danger.

After revealing that it was Mikisugi who threw the note, we finally get to learn some more about his motives. Apparently he is a part of a larger organisation known as Nudist Beach who desire a world where clothes do not hold the power to augment people. We also learn from Kinagase that there is a danger of being consumed when donning a Kamui, transforming into a “monster” in the process.

Kill-la-Kill-Episode-5-03
Things are tense in Nudist Beach

Despite Mikisugi’s intervention, Ryuko and Kinagase wind up fighting the next day. After a little back and forth, their battle is interrupted by every non-athletic club as per Satsuki’s orders and co-ordinated by Nonon Jakuzure, whom we learn has been with the president the longest of any Elite. As the fighting spreads and escalates, Ryuko finds herself in the school building, battered, bruised and with a depowered Senketsu. Kinagase takes this opportunity to literally swing in and kick her into the bathroom wall. He explains to her that there was once a woman who claimed clothes as comrades, but she was betrayed and destroyed by them. Failing to convince Ryuko to back down, Senketsu detaches himself from her and prepares to sacrifice himself to help Ryuko escape. With Mako’s intervention and a threat/promise from Senketsu, Kinagase begins to understand that clothes aren’t inherently evil, deciding to give Ryuko one chance to prove herself. Though he promises to finish the job he started should things come apart at the seams.

The events that transpire in the bathroom are probably the most intense that have happened in the series to date. The fact that Senketsu was willing to be destroyed to save Ryuko shows how close the two have become in such a short time. When Senketsu is taken down, Ryuko appears visibly broken for the first time, being affectected by it more than any of the crazy events that have already happened. Though Mako appears once more in her timely fashion, her humourous rant also contains some pretty raw information. She notes how before Ryuko, the only friends she ever had were in her head which, whilst representing her quirky character, also lends to the terrible effect of Satsuki’s rule on the populace and their segregated lifestyle. It should also be noted that this is the first time in the series where nudity isn’t played for laughs or fanservice. When Ryuko is stripped of Senketsu, there’s no humour to it, instead it represents her vulnerability and loneliness without her friend. Amidst all of her bravado and badassery, this side of her personality hasn’t really been given any attention, so it’s quite the shift to see our hero in such a state. The dynamic between Ryuko and Senketsu definitely adds a depth to their characters and shows a rare sombre side not often seen in this ballistic series.

Kill-la-Kill-Episode-5-04
A side of Ryuko not often seen

As opposed to the previous episode’s off the walls humour and insanity, Epsiode 5 delves into the much more serious side of Kill la Kill. The development and exploration of relationships shows how there is some depth to the series beyond the awesome fight scenes. Even Satsuki is revealed to have a “softer” side, offering thanks to Jakuzure for understanding her true intentions and acting accordingly. I guess even evil can have friends. That’s kinda nice…right?
