Today NIS America has released a new batch of screenshots for Demon Gaze and this time around they are focusing on introducing us to a few of the characters that we will be encountering and working with when the game is released on April 22nd in North America and April 25th in Europe.

In these screenshots we are introduced to the following characters, whose descriptions come from NIS America itself:

Lezerem Rantile – A frivolous elf who runs the item shop. He can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble — or in his clothes once he’s drunk.

Kukure – The self-proclaimed stylist at the inn. He looks like a child, but is actually a full grown Migmy. He’s picky when it comes to the female body, especially the posterior.

Fran Pendoll – The beautiful, young manager of the Dragon Princess Inn who’s somewhat of a tightwad, though she says she’s it’s because she’s working on a mission.

Lancelorna Beowulf – She’s got an Evil Eye, similar to the main character. After retiring as a mercenary for mysterious reasons, she now looks after the main character.

Prometh – A mysterious mortician girl who lives in the inn’s basement. She loves herself some skulls!

Pinay – A Ney girl with boundless energy who lives at the Dragon Princess Inn. She also might have another side to her…

Another Case Solved
Developer: Ars Thanea Games
Publisher: Chillingo
Platforms: iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad (Reviewed)
Release Date: 20th February 2014
Price: Free (With In-App Purchases) – Available Here

Overview

In the days where simple puzzle games like “Candy Crush” and “Bejewelled” reign supreme over mobile devices, one game stands to separate itself from the pack and take its rightful place on the throne! Well maybe that was a little bit overboard but there’s nothing wrong with being a bit “flashy” at times. In all seriousness though; “Another Case Solved” is a game, developed by Ars Thanea Games (AT Games) and published by Chillingo (a juggernaut in the mobile games industry), that has you solving cases in an odd but extremely fun manner I can only really compare to that of a game like “Candy Crush”. It takes the idea of a simple puzzle game and gives it depth but…is depth in a puzzle game always good?

Story

“Another Case Solved” puts players into the shoes of a personal investigator/freelance detective that is just starting out his/her career in a town that has recently abolished sugar, it’s not something I always say but I believe using the quote; “Simpsons did it!” is entirely justified. You’re tasked with building up your professional reputation while taking on any cases you can just get a bit more money. The good thing about the story is that it doesn’t entirely focus on the whole “candy abolition” storyline, instead it focuses on a mix between menial jobs and full blown detective work.

It basically gives players a reason to actually continue playing but it doesn’t force them into unnecessary story, you can easily ignore what characters say and still finish cases just as easy as you would have if you read what they have to say. It has a story that justifies playing the game but it has a gameplay type that doesn’t necessarily need a story to play so it both covers its own butt and cancels itself out, take it whichever way you see fit.

Another-Case-Solved-Screenshot-01

Gameplay

As I mentioned in the paragraphs above; “Another Case Solved” plays a lot like a typical puzzle game wherein which you must match up three or more of the same icon to get points, the difference between those ones and this one is that “Another Case Solved” actually gives you a reason to play the game rather than just scoring more points. Seeing as you follow the story of a detective, you’re given cases to solve but you solve these by actually completing levels of puzzles. The gameplay is quite similar to how a game like “Pokemon Trozei” would be played; you’re essentially just playing a simple puzzle game but you actually have a purpose, in “Pokemon Trozei” you’re whittling down the enemy Pokemon’s health, in this game you’re working to solve cases.

There are more aspects to this game than just the matching up of symbols, there are side games or mini-games to play during larger cases like identifying a perpetrator or investigating a suspects residence, there’s actually a fair bit to do throughout. The gameplay even has players dealing with a great deal of customisation and levelling up both personal characters and the abilities they can use in-game, while I didn’t necessarily use them because I played the title with a more “casual” mentality, I can honestly see a lot of people getting down and dirty with the levelling system and the abilities it has to offer.

Visuals

When it comes to visuals throughout “Another Case Solved” I wouldn’t say they were absolutely perfect or that they were ground-breaking in any way but they were damn nice. Fact is; it never really needed to have incredible graphics or anything because it was simply a puzzle game so an abundance of unnecessary visual effects would have been…well, unnecessary. Unfortunately it did seem flat at times and the customisable features were mostly ugly, that goes for the people you come into contact with as well.

Some visual features of the game felt, more or less, rushed but it was definitely made up for by a lot of the other visuals. The really good thing about this game is that nothing looked or felt out of place which should be something every game would have mastered by now but you’d be surprised at the amount of mobile or iOS games that have visuals that don’t quite fit. Thought the screen did sometimes fill cluttered at least everything on those screens belonged there. While this game did nothing to blow me away it also didn’t do anything that would make me hate what it looked like, there are a little things here and there but not every title can be perfect.

Audio

It’s safe to say that the game captured that old-school, detective, semi-noire vibe quite well. The game isn’t exactly set in present times so to assume that it would be filled with modern-sounding music would be to make an uneducated guess. It’s filled with a lot of, I assume, nostalgia-inducing tones and sounds of which you’d probably hear in a more light-hearted version of “LA Noire”. While it is a detective story and it is set in a city riddled with crimes it doesn’t entirely have a dark soundtrack, it’s actually quite light-hearted and fitting. All the sound effects are great and match their visuals which, as I mentioned above, is something you’d assume every video game has mastered but, once again, you’d be surprised.

There’s minimal voice-acting in “Another Case Solved” but the voice-acting that is there is actually damn good, I will give credit to it despite it being a small aspect because if it was the inverse I would be taking points away. One thing that is incredibly annoying is the games advertisement system where, instead of just flashing ads at you, it comes in the form of a phone in your office that continues to ring until you tap it to look at the ad. That was probably the most annoying auditory aspect of the game and although it only every happened when you were at the office, it still good quite frustrating.

Another-Case-Solved-Screenshot-02

Overall

It really is how I defined it earlier on: a game similar to a great deal of puzzle games floating around but one that actually gives you an actual reason to play it. It’s fantastic on so many levels but there are a few small things that make it, let’s say, less than perfect but most people will be able to overlook those small things to be able to fully enjoy the game.

Ender’s Game Coming to Home Media April 4

ENDER'S GAME

Icon Home Entertainment is bringing Gavin Hood’s spectacular sci-fi-action film Ender’s Game to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on April 4. The San Francisco Chronicle called the movie – based on the extremely popular novel of the same name by Orson Scott Card – “an absorbing and thought-provoking spectacle”.

Starring Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Indiana Jones), Asa Buttefield (Hugo, Wolfman), Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Schindler’s List), Viola Davis (The Help, Doubt), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Signs) and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Romeo and Juliet), Ender’s Game opened at number one at the U.S. box office back in November. It sees Butterfield play Ender Wiggin, “a shy, strategically brilliant boy, has been chosen to defend Earth from an ever-present hostile threat.” With thrilling visuals, emotional content (respect to Bruce Lee) and plenty of action, Ender’s Game is a great motion pictures for people of all ages.

Keep it locked to Capsule Computers as we review the Blu-ray edition of Ender’s Game closer to release.

“Puzzle & Dragons” Collaborates With “Rebuild Of Evangelion”

Evangelion-You-Are-Not-Alone-02

The mobile game “Puzzle & Dragons” is a game that would be known by many but it is a game that I believe would also not be known to many people, such a contradictory statement is not often stated but it is one that I truly believe makes a great deal of sense.

“Puzzle & Dragons” – a game developed and published by GungHo Online Entertainment – is, as the title describes, a puzzle game that has players complete different “Bejeweled-esqu” tasks like lining up three or more of the same symbol in a row to clear a level and damage an enemy like what we saw a few years ago with the Pokemon spin-off title “Pokemon Trozei”.

It seems as though “Puzzle & Dragons” obtained its popularity throughout Japan by collaborating with a whole bunch of different companies, franchises and series’ like “HunterXHunter” and “Hello kitty”. It’s popularity has spread over to the West but I do not believe it has quite the level of fame as it does over in Japan, thus my initial comment.

Puzzle-Dragons-Logo-01

It seems as though GungHo Online have decided that their next collaboration project will be with the extremely popular anime series turned anime movie series “Rebuild Of Evangelion“, a mix that has placed “Puzzle & Dragons” firmly on my radar. Dungeons, characters, enemies, bosses, all these different aspects of the game will be re-themed to fit into the universe of “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, more specifically the new “Rebuild” movies.

The exciting thing about this event is that it will also be launching in North America, this time Japan wont be the only ones getting a fantastically-themed update. A few images have been released regarding the update of the game, below you can see the main characters of the “Rebuild” movies in “chibi” form, the way they will be represented in-game. Head down below to check the images out, I hope you enjoy them because they will be all you have until more images are released or the update gets released which should be hitting mobile devices in early March (February 24th for Japan).

Listen to the Hollow Lullaby of Dark Souls II

dark-souls-ii-shield-screenshot-01

Namco Bandai AU have shared a new trailer for the upcoming Dark Souls II, entitled “Hollow Lullaby”. Less a lullaby, and more a call to action, the trailer features narration that aims to inspire gamers to pick up the challenging title with oddly (and aptly dark) motivational phrasing. “This isn’t about death; this is about what you learn from death.”

You can check out the trailer for yourself embedded at the bottom of this article. We recently had editors in both the U.S. and Australia go hands-on with the title; you can read those previews here and here respectively (the second goes more in-depth, covering the first 5 hours). Dark Souls II will launch in Australia and New Zealand on March 13, 2014 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a PC edition to follow shortly. Pre-order the game here and stay tuned to Capsule Computers for all future Dark Souls II news.

The second DLC titled “Genroku Legends – A Cause To Daikon For” follows the tragic tale of the widowed farmer Gonbe. The land is in poverty; villages are begining to crumble, their villagers are beginning to starve and the tax put upon all residents is beginning to push the entire populace to the limit. It’s all thanks to a greedy lord, a man named Governor Hatono and it seems like the seemingly simple farmer has had enough of his tyrannical rule. Gonbe (alongside the ghostly apparition that is his wife) joins a group of rebels, slowly rises to the top and leads them to victory against Governor Hatono for the sake of the land and its people! So much has been added with this DLC; gameplay mechanics, bosses, enemies, weapons, this DLC has it all!

Hoes, Bamboo Sticks, and a Ghost! – With hoe in hand and a host of other farming tools-turned-weapons, Gonbe can attack near or far! He can even call on his farming buddies to help out in a pinch, or have his ghostly wife “lift” him out of difficult situations.
New Bosses and Characters – “A Cause to Daikon For” has a host of new bosses and enemies that Gonbe will come across. He’ll need all his strength and cunning to fend off Governor Hatono’s forces.

Challenges Galore! – Take Gonbe into Momohime and Kisuke’s world to battle bosses like the Dragon God! Will Gonbe and his wife stand a chance?

JUGGERNAUT GAMES’ STARCRAWLERS NEARS KICKSTARTER GOAL; ONE WEEK INTO CAMPAIGN, COMMUNITY SHOWS STRONG SUPPORT

JUGGERNAUT GAMES’ STARCRAWLERS NEARS KICKSTARTER GOAL; ONE WEEK INTO CAMPAIGN, COMMUNITY SHOWS STRONG SUPPORT

Lead a crew of freelance robotic adventurers and navigate corporate intrigue on the fringes of space in a classic sci-fi themed dungeon crawl

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 19, 2014 – Juggernaut Games, an independent games publisher, is happy to announce the company is more than half-way to meeting its Kickstarter Campaign goal to fund the development of its first-person, dungeon-crawling RPG StarCrawlers for PC, Mac and Linux. A twist on the classic dungeon-crawler, StarCrawlers has a sci-fi theme and is set in dynamic and interactive abandoned spaceship environments and futuristic corporate facilities. Players must make tactical decisions to keep their team alive while unraveling corporate conspiracies.

The first game under development by Juggernaut, StarCrawlers has also been selected to advance through Steam Greenlight based on the strong community interest shown in only nine days. Well-known composer Ben Prunty has signed on to provide the atmospheric soundtrack.

“Juggernaut is so thrilled and thankful for the amazing support StarCrawlers is receiving from the Kickstarter community,” said Asa Enochs, Game Designer, Juggernaut Games. “We are eager to meet our funding goal and encourage everyone to check out our game on Kickstarter. We have been blown-away by the enthusiasm of our community, and we can’t wait to implement their ideas into the game to make it even better.”

In StarCrawlers, players run a crew of talented “fixers” such as hackers, cyber ninjas, soldiers, and more, taking shady jobs on the fringes of space.  Whatever their particular skillset – hacking, smuggling or advanced ass-kicking – StarCrawlers are individuals who specialize in taking jobs others won’t.

Juggernaut has designed an interactive and dynamic environment that changes based on how players explore, fight foes, and resolve encounters. Teams venture into procedurally-generated sci-fi worlds full of lethal enemies, unexpected events, and deadly traps. As play progresses through the technologic dungeons, players face tougher and tougher enemies and are tested against elite bosses, requiring strategic decisions about team building, combat specialization and gear.

Features:

  • An atmospheric soundtrack by composer Ben Prunty
  • Classic first person dungeon crawling exploration
  • Procedurally-generated environments with random encounters, traps and enemies
  • Deep character customization with abilities that can be modeled and changed
  • Randomly generated and upgradeable loot
  • PC, Mac, and Linux support

J-Stars Victory Vs. – Third Commercial Released

J-Stars-Victory-Vs-Title-Image-01

As well as the abundance of trailers that Namco Bandai releases online, the company also posts short commercials for their upcoming shonen brawler “J-Stars Victory Vs” and even though these videos are quite short I can imagine people still love seeing them because I know I do! The latest video to be posted is actually the third commercial for the game and it centres around three shonen favourites; Goku from “Dragon Ball Z”, Gon Freecss from “HunterXHunter” and Seiya the titular character from “Saint Seiya”.

Despite the video only going for a short 15 seconds, it does get its chance to show us the brilliant special “ken” movies of these three characters as well as a sneaky appearance by Bobobo-bo at the very end. Goku’s “King Kai Fist”, Gon’s “Jajan Fist” and Seiya’s “Pegasus Meteor Fist” are all shown but don’t just take my word for it, head down to the featured video section below and check out the video. Any fan of Shonen Jump would!

Keep your eyes on the site for any and all new information as it is released and remember that “J-Stars Victory Vs” is set to hit Japan on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on the 19th of March this year.
