Sydney, March 11, 2010 – Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) today announced that PlayStation®Move motion controller for PlayStation®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system, launches worldwide this fall (Australian Spring), offering a motion-based, high-definition gaming experience unlike anything on the market. Concurrently with its launch, SCE will also release PlayStation®Move sub-controller to be used along with the motion controller for intuitive navigation of in-game characters and objects. The PlayStation Move platform, including the motion controller, sub-controller, and PlayStation®Eye camera*1, together with a strong lineup of software titles, will deliver an innovative and highly immersive experience on the PS3 system.
The combination of the PS3 system and PlayStation Eye camera detects the precise movement, angle, and absolute position in 3D space of PlayStation Move motion controller, allowing users to intuitively play the game as if they themselves are within the game. PlayStation Move motion controller delivers unmatched accuracy through its advanced motion sensors, including a three-axis gyroscope, a three-axis accelerometer, and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor, as well as a color-changing sphere that is tracked by PlayStation Eye camera. Through PlayStation Move system, both fast and subtle motion can be detected, whether the user is swinging a tennis racket, or painting with a brush. With PlayStation Move motion controller, users can provide direct input through action buttons and an analog trigger, while receiving physical feedback from rumble functionality and visual feedback from the sphere’s ability to display a variety of different colors. Furthermore, PlayStation Eye camera can capture the player’s voice or image, enabling augmented reality experiences

The newly announced PlayStation Move sub-controller is a one-handed controller, developed to further expand the game play options that PlayStation Move games can offer*2. PlayStation Move sub-controller features a sleek curved design that pairs with the motion controller and comes with an analog stick and directional buttons that allow users to easily control the game when moving characters or choosing a direction. Like all other Wireless Controllers for the PS3 system, it comes with a built in lithium-ion rechargeable battery as well as Bluetooth® technology, enabling the controller to transfer the input information wirelessly to the PS3 system without a cable. PlayStation Move motion controller and sub-controller will further broaden the gaming experience on the PS3 system for all genres, from games that use one motion controller to games that use both controllers.

The introduction of PlayStation Move controllers has been well received within the industry and now 36 third party developers and publishers*3 have decided to support PlayStation Move platform. In fiscal year 2010, SCE Worldwide Studios will also release more than 20 games that are either dedicated to or supported with the PlayStation Move platform.
SCE, with strong support from software developers and publishers, will deploy various measures to enhance the PlayStation Move software title line-up and vigorously promote the PS3 platform.

*1 Users will need to use the PlayStation Eye camera to enjoy PlayStation Move motion controller on PS3.
*2 DUALSHOCK® or SIXAXIS® Wireless Controller can also be used in place of the sub controller.

Capcom have announed the final piece of the Super Street Fighter IV puzzle.  Meet HAKAN !!

He likes to get all oiled up, down and dirty. Hakan is an oil wrestler hailing from Turkey. Using lubricant to assist in his battles, this slippery character brings some of the most insane moves and ultra combos to the series.

Super Street Fighter IV will be out on April 30th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with 10 new characters, new Ultra combos, new stages, the return of bonus rounds and beefed-up online modes (including the free tournament mode DLC after launch).  Also make sure you have Pre-ordered your copy as the are some ULTRA-COOL-COMBO goodies to go with it when you do 🙂

Resident Evil 5 discounted DLC in “Untold Stories Bundle”

EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT !!!

Recently Capcom has released 2 DLC add-ons and 2 costume packs for Resident Evil 5.

You could buy them all separately for about $14, or you could buy the Gold Edition of the game which includes the DLC codes for much more money.

BUT WAIT!
Now there is a cheaper alternative. Buy the ‘Untold Stories Bundle’ and receive both DLC add-ons (Lost in Nightmares, and Desperate Escape) as well as both costume packs for as low as 960MSP (12$) on the Xbox 360, or $12.50 on the PS3.

Why does the Ps3 bundle cost $0.50 more? I don’t know, but if i had to guess, it has something to do with Sony Charging more for Capcom to put the bundle on the Playstation network.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, is it worth $15?

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is dated for release this summer for XBLA, PSN, and PC. At a $15 price tag and incredible graphics the game seems promising. It will follow Lara Croft and her return to a crumbling underworld and its hostile caretakers.

According to developer Crystal Dynamics, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will offer approximately six hours of two-player co-operative action and puzzle-solving (though your pace may vary).

The game does sound very interesting but when I read that it only offered 6 hours of game play it came as a disappointment. When did 6 hours of game play constitute a $15 price tag?

Clash of Heroes being Ported to PSN and XBLA

Never bought Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes for DS? Or do you simply not own a DS? Well Clash of Heroes is coming the the Playstation Network, as well as the Xbox Live Arcade in the near future.

The current release date is unknown, but the game will release with completely redrawn HD graphics, as well as a few new artifacts and a few original artifacts tweaked for balanced multiplayer.

DJ Hero DLC pack coming this month (Eminem & Jay-Z)

Did you finish all your current tracks in DJ hero? well activision has announce a new pack that will release this month on the XBox 360, PS3, and Wii.

The pack includes:

  • “Shake That” by Eminem mixed with “Show Me What You Got” by Jay-Z
  • “Without Me” by Eminem mixed with “Encore” by Jay-Z
  • “Can I Get A…” by Jay-Z mixed with “Lose Yourself” by Eminem

The Schedule for release is:

  • March 18 on Xbox Live for 640 ($8)
  • March 25 on PSN for $7.99.
  • March 25 on the Wii as a downloadable single for 300 Wii Points ($3) each; $9 for all three.

(The tracks will not be sold separately for Xbox 360 or PS3.)

Story

Customize your newly-acquired cars and then return to the track to blast through more enemies. Jump online with Xbox LIVE ® to race against your friends and crush their cars with the wheels of your monster truck in pulse-pounding online multiplayer matches.” [Via Xbox.com]

Drive around destroying your opponents in order to beat the levels and finish off the bosses. Every car you wreck while racing goes to your junkyard and enables you to drive that car. Defeat the bosses in order to gain that land and own it all!

Gameplay
Scrap Metal is a Top Down racer with weapons thrown in. Race and shoot your way through the levels and beat them all! Multiple Car Types, such as muscle cars, bulldozers, sports cars, and even tanks; customization them with with paint jobs and accessories; and finally Race them to victory.

When you wreck a car in a race you get that car in your junkyard for you to choose from. You also get upgrade points by placing in 3rd (10 points), 2nd (20 points), or 1st (30 points). Use these points to make your cars even better, and make winning those races easier.

There are two sets of controls, the easy set up where the direction you point the joystick is where you go, and then the advanced controls where you drive your car like a remote control car. Since I drive a lot of remote control cars in real life I prefer the advanced controls, the advance controls also enable you to reverse and use an emergency break for extra precision. The controls are still extremely hard to get used to, and with other cars trying to shoot you the game becomes extremely hectic and anything can happen.

In the video below I demonstrate some aspects of the game. Some key points are:

  • The first part shows the junkyard as well as the customization of your vehicle, as well as upgrading of one.
  • The first race is an elimination race, weapons are disabled and after every lap the person in last place is destroyed. Other races have weapons enables, and it leads to a whole new level of difficulty.
  • As you can see, car debris stay on the road and it become hazardous to drive. Every scattered part is a hazard that could make you lose.
  • One of the biggest annoyances is getting knocked off of the path right as you are about to pass a checkpoint, causing you to miss the checkpoint and have to go backwards to go through it.
  • The Second Race is a demolition derby, where you try to destroy as many cars as possible within the time limit.
  • Different Cars have different weapons. I was using Machine Guns x2, but there was also a computer using a flamethrower, and another using a saw blade.
  • You can also pick up power ups by shooting them, this will help a lot. All the power ups I got in the second video I simply shot at.

Audio
Engines revving, guns blazing, blades spinning; Scrap Metal focuses more heavily on the sound effects over the soundtrack. The menu’s have a nice theme, but while playing you will be focused on what is going around you, which is gun fire, vehicle driving, and vehicles ramming each other.

Achievements
A majority of the achievement list is based on completing the story. The online ones can be achieved with friends, so those are decently easy too. The hardest achievement is getting a gold star on every level, which is pretty much obtained by getting in first place in every race or derby. Even this one is easy if you take the time to get upgrade points and upgrade your vehicles as much as you can. Overall the achievements in Scrap Metal are easy to obtain.

Scrap Metal also contains 2 avatar awards.

  • Kicking the Tires – Complete the Single Player tutorial mission.

Overview
Top down racer fans rejoice! Scrap Metal is a fun top down racer with loads of customization possibilities. The game does have a tendency to get repetitive due to a lack of different game types, but on the other hand there are loads of different cars, upgrades, power ups, and customization options that will lead to endless hours of racing and destruction for those who purchase Scrap Metal (1200MSP / 15$ USD). Scrap Metal is a fun, bullet flying, car destroying experience and I give Scrap Metal 8 Capsules out of 10.

Pros

  • Customize your cars, and get new cars by destroying your enemies.
  • Many Tracks, Cars, and power ups for hours of fun.
  • The classic feel of a top down racer with the added benefits of guns.
  • Leaderboards enable you to compete for best scores with the world.

Cons

  • Like all arcade games, the online community will probably not last very long.
  • The game has a tendency to get repetitive, since every level requires you to kill someone, run away from someone, or be faster than someone.
  • Driving can be a nuisance sometimes because you can’t get a clear view of what is around you at all times.

Extra information regarding the Modern Warfare 2 DLC

So March 30th it is! OMG, I am so excited.  No other news has been given so far, maybe some more later on this week.

Also other big news from the twitter feed is the patch for the matchmaking update for the Xbox360 is supposedly coming before the DLC is released.  Can you imagine never (or rarely) having to play in a dirty 1 red bar/2 yellow bar match again!

Yakuza 3 has arrived in stores TODAY !!

Yakuza 3 has left Okinawa, jumped on a plane and made it to western shores.  Sega’s Yakuza 3 is now available world wide exclusively for Playstation 3

After playing the Yakuza 3 demo last week I totally fell in love with it as it reminded me soo much of Shenmue.  I was walking around the streets of Tokyo FOR HOURS  like a kid in a candy store !!  I honestly stopped to read all the Japanese signs on every building (lucky I can now read Japanese, which makes playing the game even more fun).  I even played games in Club Sega and bought some bargains in Don Kihote (which has its own theme song playing when you enter the store).  The amount of little extra’s Sega has thrown into Yakuza 3 is totally amazing.  You can go into a convenience store, stop by the magazine stand and check out all the latest magazines from manga to adults books 😉 

You can also buy a HUGE variety of goods from stores some just trivial others providing you with ability boosts, energy replenishment and also weapons you can use in battle. Besides exploring Tokyo and Okinawa, you can also visit restaurants, pick up ramen at a local noodle shops, go golfing, bowling, fishing, karaoke, or bust some heads in a local street fight which never gets dull !! Ahh how I miss Japan 🙁

Well if you haven’t already do so make sure you pick up your copy of Yakuza 3 from your local retail or online.
