Sonic 4 Release Details

Sonic’s Latest instalment will be converting back to the old days of 2D action and platforming, which will be dropping this month after a delay. The game will be available on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and ITunes. After quite a few 3D disasters in the franchise, this retro step could be just what the hedgehog needs.

If you’re a forgiving fan and look forward to Sonic’s re-entry, you can download him as follows:

Playstation Network (AU$19.95) on October 12th

Xbox Live Arcade (1200 Microsoft Points) on October 13th

Nintendo WiiWare (1500 Wii Points) on October 11th

As for the ITunes Store pricing, details are yet to be revealed, however it’ll be available at the earlier stage of October the 7th. SEGA may be asking a little too much for this initial episode of the game, but later releases might be cheaper. Hopefully Sonic’s new direction gives the much loved character what he deserves, a great game! It’ll be interesting to find out. Will you be buying Sonic’s new game?

Fall 2010 Anime Preview Series – To Aru Majutsu no Index II

Last but not least we have the crown jewel in my book for this Fall’s anime season. To Aru Majutsu no Index II, otherwise known as A Certain Magical Index II, is the sequel to the series of the same name a couple of years ago and is quite literally action filled to the brink with an intelligent storyline and lovable characters that doesn’t fall into any generic traps that action anime’s end up using as time goes on.

The basic premise is that Kamijou Touma lives in Academy City, where nearly every citizen has a special power of theirs rated on their power level, Level 5 as the strongest and Level 0 as nothing. Touma has absolutely no power; at least recognized by the system. Instead his right hand contains the power to dispel any type of magic or esper powers that he faces, and he has named it the Imagine Breaker. After the first series when he faced down crazed magicians and psychics, Touma is still protecting Index who is the center of all knowledge for the magical world and the Church of Necessarius.

If it sounds like it is confusing at times, it is true that Index can become confusing if you do not pay attention. However once you manage to understand everything that is going on there is a large amount of appreciation for the deep meanings shown in the show and the way that Touma stands up for those that are under attack regardless of who is opponent is or how much he will be hurt. If you happen to watch this though, be prepared for very large technical terms and explanations that will sometimes take up a few minutes of an episode simply to catch the audience up on what the characters are talking about.

After watching the first series, I can guarantee the fact that this sequel looks to deliver even more of the Light Novel in which the anime is based off of. Every familiar face from the first season is returning and even more are showing up to help drive the story along; even those that have no central origin in Index, but the spinoff Railgun.

Making of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West- Video #3

We are only about 5 days out from the release of Namco’s newest action/adventure title, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. This newest development video showcases the motion capture production of the game.  I am really looking forward to playing the game, and you will get your chance too on October 5, 2010. If you like this video, enjoy the first two videos from the same series.

Fall 2010 Anime Preview Series – Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai

As fellow gamers we know that occasionally games can take our attention away from important things in life. Say a huge game has just came out and you have it sitting in your console, you are more than willing to forgo homework and everything else just to get a chance to play the game right? Well what if these games became your entire life, not making them, but playing them. And they aren’t just any game, they are all gal games, meaning games in which the protagonist’s main objective is to develop relationships with female characters.

That is how Katsuragi Keima’s life has become, entirely by his own choice. Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (Translation means The World God Only Knows) is the story of a genius highschooler who has forsaken the 3D world and cares little for real life girls, school, or anything outside of his gaming. But what happens when he accepts what he believes is a challenge from a game maker, only to enter in with a contract with Hell.

This contract has made it so if he doesn’t fulfill his obligations, he will die. Not only that but he has been paired with a demon girl named Elsea in the task of capturing runaway spirits that have taken refuge within young girls hearts. Now the real catch is, that the only way that these spirits can be expelled and captured is by making the girl fall in love with Keima. Keima must use his knowledge from countless dating simulation games on real world girls, all the while despising the fact he has to be away from his games.

Sure this is an extreme example but this anime is definitely going to be full of laughs as we see Keima try to shirk his duties as a spirit hunter and simply go back to his isolation. Put it together with the fact that he is being forced to make women fall in love with him to capture souls; and the fact that he hates the entire idea and there will be a humorous romance anime ripe for the watching.

Vindictus – PC Preview and Beta Key Contest

I love MMOs, and I love fantasy games. I have tried some free-to-play MMOs in the past, such as Perfect World, but I have to say that Vindictus has been the most impressive one so far.  It was actually quite refreshing! It had a really nice introduction scene (that unfortunately my computer sputtered through… but my computer is getting old) and a very nice character customization.  A lot of new games have micro customization where you can control your looks down to the length of your nose, which I personally hate.  I can never really tell how I made myself look until I hit enter, and then I’ll realize that one of my boobs are lopsided or something.   This one had just enough customization.  You probably don’t really care about that though.

Talking to NPCs quite honestly reminded me of a Nintendo DS game, and this part disappointed me the most about the game.  Their picture come up in the corner of myscreen with their dialog scrolling next to it, and I never really “saw” the NPC.  Instead, when I walked into a room, I simply saw a screenshot of the room and with all of the options of people to talk to along the side of it.  I suppose that’s what you get for playing a free game, but it worked nonetheless.

You receive some kind of quest to do a dungeon, and it tells you which direction to go… so I went.  Their dungeon system is odd at the moment, I’ll have to play some more before I will be able to really tell you the details of it.  Basically, you choose a boat, and each boat will have different dungeon quests associated with it, ranging from easy to difficult.  You choose which one you want to do, and you’re off!  I fought a lot of wooden people in my beginner’s dungeon.  It was fun.

For their NPCs being so underdeveloped, their fighting style was very, very nice.  Instead of locking target on an enemy and knowing that your sword swing was going to hit them, it was extremely hack and slash which was VERY fun.  What made it especially fun was the ability to do combos and special attacks.  Holding down E would grab your enemy by the neck, then pressing your right mouse button would pretty much do a choke slam.  It was absolutely thrilling!  Or I could just be way too pumped up about how many assassinations I did in Halo: Reach today too…

Overall, I give the BETA 9 Capsules out of 10.  Amazing for a free game, a little lacking in the NPC department though.

Twitter Contest:

Moving on though, the game will be available for open beta beginning October 13th, but I have two closed beta keys available, and I bet you want one.  All you have to do is RT on Twitter:

Dragon Age Ultimate Edition Announced

Dragon Age is one of the RPG greats of this generation. If you’ve been on the fence, for whatever reason, about getting the game, well here’s your chance to get everything in one package.

This Ultimate Edition will come with every piece of DLC, even the recent Witch Hunt, and contain the expansion, Awakening. Buying everything seperately, as it currently stands, would cost $114. Dragon Age Ultimate Edition will sell for the sweet price of $60. I’ve played through the game and most of the DLC and I’m even tempted to pick this up. What better way to prepare for Dragon Age II?

Dragon Age Ultimate Edition will hit PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 on October 26.

Fall 2010 Anime Preview Series – Otome Youkai Zakuro

It is quite often that we see an Anime that deals with demons, henceforth to be called youkai for integrity sake, and humans living side by side with eachother and trying to coexist. Though here we have a bit of a twist in the average youkai to human interaction. The twist is that opposed to younger characters, we are dealing with the middle aged military men of the Japanese Army.

Japan has been consistently westernized during the Meiji era due to needing assistance from the West. They have just adapted the Gregorian Calendar as opposed to their usual Lunar calendar favored by the youkai. Because of this the youkai have started to cause trouble for the humans and make it difficult to live together without there being an all out war. To try and quell the brewing trouble both sides agree to form the “Youjinshou Ministry” which wil allow four female youkai foxes to coexist with three different lieutenants to try and show that the two races can live together in harmony.

With the way that the anime has been portrayed it is obvious that there will be a romantic element mixed in as the fox demons youkai attempt to connect to the human soldiers and the other way around. What I am excited to see is that because this anime is based off of the Otome genre, it will be the female foxes which instead take the lead over their male counterparts. Put it together with the era change and the unique way of trying to ease the tensions and this should be an interesting watch as long as things don’t turn stale fast.
