Playstation Move Heroes – Preview

For the first time ever Playstation Move Heroes will crossover characters of Playstation’s iconic gaming franchises, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and Sly Cooper – all in one that is set to raise the bar in crossover compilation games designed and built from the ground up exclusively for the Playstation Move.

Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly, and Bentley (the heroes in this game) are swept across the galaxy by a mysterious alien duo that have snatched up the worlds of Ratchet, Jak and Sly in order to create a mysterious new planet in the galaxy. After being abducted by the duo, Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly and Bentley are invited by the alien hosts to compete in a ‘friendly’, yet challenging competition to test their extraordinary skills but of cause all is not as it seems. And it’s up to the heroes to join together in the ultimate battle to protect the galaxy. It will be interesting to see how each different franchise will fit in with one another in what is tipped to be the ultimate crossover. Players will control each character in a series of competitive challenges and events, mixing combat and platforming gameplay with one another. Each character brings with their unique personalities, strengths, and signature weapons in levels based around familiar landscapes from each franchise.

Fans will be pleased to know that Metropolis from Ratchet & Clank, Haven City from Jak & Daxter and Paris from Sly Cooper have been adapted into the game, with each of them having a unique visual theme and destructive elements set to their franchise. It is also good to see that the game will feature Co-Op gameplay, allowing players to team up with a friend to work their way through each mission. Complete these will unlock medels using the game’s level scoring and online ranking boards which will show how players stack-up against other players on the network. Overall Playstation Move Heroes looks to be a great platformer for the system and will really test Move’s capabilities.

Playstation Move Heroes is set to be release on April 30, 2011.

This Week on XBLA (1/10/2011)

This week’s XBLA game is Zeit 2. This side-scrolling shooter has a cool time travel mechanic that lets you travel forward and backwards in time; Hence the name Zeit which means ‘time’ in German. This game will be available on January 12th on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points.

However, if that doesn’t satisfy you perhaps the large amount of Zombie deals will quench your thirst for new stuff. While Zombie Apocalypse is on sale for the 4th time now (if I’m not mistaken) I’m sure there is still somewhere out there who hasn’t picked it up but wants too… or at least that is what Microsoft’s Deal organizers are thinking. The other deals including the DLC and Dishwasher Dead Samurai are all really good and definitely worth a pick up if you haven’t already. I was hoping for The Sacrifice DLC, but I guess we will all have to wait for another time for that.

These Deal of the Week offers are available until Monday 17th January.

Bejeweled 2 to Swap it’s way Down to Australia and New Zealand’s Wiis…

Popcap have had a busy year. After the recent release of Bejeweled 3 and the several versions of the highly successful Plants vs Zombies, the company is finally bringing one of their most popular titles to the Wiiware. The title of course I am referring to is none other than Bejeweled 2. Of course this version will have some Wii flare in the mix as well with several new features. As the player smashes gems, their own Mii will react to the combos and score to add a bit more excitement to the game. The Nintendo WiFi Connection will also come into use as well which will allow you to share scores with players all over the world as well as compete with others to give the game a bit of multi-player madness.

Paul Breslin, General Manager at PopCap Games’ European HQ said: “We are delighted to bring Bejeweled 2 to the Wii™ in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. PopCap is committed to making our games available for everyone – everywhere so this launch is a significant milestone for us”.

Bejeweled 2 is without a doubt the most successful puzzle title of all time with over 350 million downloads and 50 million units already sold, and there is no doubt that now Nintendo Wii owners will be grabbing this version just as fast. If you have been looking for a new WiiWare title, Bejeweled 2 is one of those that seems to be a must for just about every console these days and at just 1000 points, the puzzler has already proved again and again that it is well worth the price of admission. Bejeweled 2 is now available for download on the WiiWare in AU, NZ, and the EU as well as U.S. so there is now no excuse not to add this addictive puzzler to your collection, whether it be Wii or any of the many other consoles Bejeweled 2 graces.

Square Enix unleash Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded gameplay trailer

In preparation for its release this week on the 14th January, Square Enix have presented us with a trailer showcasing the gameplay delights of their latest Kingdom Hearts game, Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded.

And it really is a true gameplay trailer, featuring a wide range of in-game settings and enemy types. Unfortunately it is presented on a perplexing revolving cube to fit the theme of the game, but you can get the jist of it, despite the screen size being minimized.

The DS title follows on from Kingdom Hearts II, seeing you embark on an entirely new adventure. This includes new game mechanics, a varied selection of different play systems and new character customisation options. You revisit events and characters from the previous Kingdom Hearts games in order to solve the mystery at the centre of things.

WoW Cataclysm shifts 4.7 million copies in first month

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. has  announced today that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the third expansion for the critically acclaimed MMORPG, has sold through more than 4.7 million copies in one month since its release. This also set a new record for monthly PC-game sales, blowing the previous record held by the second expansion, WoW: Wrath of the Lich King.

It is fairly unsurprising given the game’s widespread popularity. Dedicated fans of World of Warcraft even prised themselves from their computers to queue up at special launch events around the globe when the game released simultaneously in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand on December 7, and then became available in Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on December 9 two days later.

Look out! It’s the Armageddon Convention!

The year has only just begun and you know what that brings us? If you guessed: ‘Another year’, then yes you would be correct, but it’s not the answer I was looking for. The most correct answer would have been: ‘Another year of conventions!’. And what a year it will be, especially when it opens with a convention that’s as epic as Armageddon.

Armageddon is well known as a highly popular sci-fi, comics, anime, gaming and other various forms of geekery convention. This means that there will be plenty of interesting things to see, hear and participate in. And what’s a convention without a horde of cosplayers? ‘Not a convention?’, you got that right!

This year we have a very excellent guest list, including:

Sci-fi

Karen Allen

Michael Rosenbaum

Laura Vandervoort – So very attractive!

Christopher Heyerdahl – Love this guys coat, I want one so bad!

and the most really very epic – David Hewlett

Animated

All conventions have their own events and special activities for attendees to, er…., attend. Here’s a list of what to expect from Armageddon:

5 ways to utilise Kinect…

Here’s a quick guide showing you 5 neat ways to make the most out of your newly acquired piece of kit:

Tune-tastic
It may seem like a bit of a drag, but if you run the Kinect Tuner (accessed from the Kinect Hub or Guide) multiple times in different lighting conditions, your gaming experience will benefit as Kinect will become more sensitive. There are options for Tracking, Audio and Calibration, with the latter being the most useful although they are all worth a try.

ID, please?
Kinect can recognise your face and sign in the profile corresponding to the person standing in front of the sensor through Kinect ID. It is also useful to run this at different times of the day as it gets more data on what you look like and, as a result, gets better at recognising you.

Demos included
Kinect Adventures, which comes bundled with every Kinect unit, includes demos of three other games on the disc: Dance Central, Kinect Joy Ride and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. These can be played from the Kinect Adventures main menu in the bottom-left corner.

On top of the world
Putting Kinect on top of your TV means it can sense you from a slightly closer range, which can be a big help if you have limited space. On the other hand, you could build a stand or wall-mount it above the screen and still reap the same benefits.

Connect with PC users
Kinect can also be used for video chat with people who are on Windows Live Messenger by going into Kinect Hub and choosing Video Kinect. Next, select the menu under the video preview (right-hand side) then select Windows Live Messenger.

N.B. You need a controller on hand to sign-in.

I hope this guide proved useful and you found out something new you can do with Xbox 360 Kinect!

Megaman Legends 3 – Check out the Heroine.

Megaman Legends 3, the latest installment in a long line of the highly popular Megaman franchise, was announced late last year to the delight of many fans. In particular, the very vocal crowd of hardcore Legends fans. The third game in the Legends series appears to follow a new set of protagonists, as opposed to Megaman Volnutt and his companion Roll. A short while after the announcement for the game was made the developers held a contest to decide on the names and appearance of the main characters. This article is to look at the leading female, Aero.

This is Aero, she’s kind of cute 😀

Judging on the looks of the character, she looks like she may be a digger… perhaps even searching for the Legendary ‘Mother-Lode’.
Her appearance is quite fashionable and seems to be quite cute. Of particular interest are her belted arm-zippers, while fashionable they also appear as though they could be helpful for somebody who indeed spends their day digging for things. The thing that is most appealing about the design though is that it is very Megaman-esque while retaining the Legends art-style. That is so very awesome!

The modelling process behind Aero looks quite complicated, but has resulted in a very artistic character that shares an excellent resemblance to the art style of the previous games. Be sure to check out the first part of the modelling process here at Capcom Unity and the second part here. For more updates on the development process, be sure to check back to the development blog frequently over at Capcom Unity

The Legends series began life on the Playstation1 in the late nineties and was well *very* well received by fans of the Megaman franchise, it was also ported to the N64 a few years after it’s Japanese release (’97PS1, ’00N64). It was also the first Megaman game to make use of a completely three-dimensional environment while retaining the tough as nail platforming and boss-fight elements. While the main Megaman canon follows through from series to series with it’s worldbuilding (Megaman, Megaman X, Megaman Zero, Megaman ZX), this was the first (proper) spin-off to be set in a different universe to the main canon which, of course, helped it into it’s popular status among fans. In this universe the world has become flooded and scavengers, known as diggers, go and hunt down the legendary ‘Mother-Lode’, widely believed as the ultimate treasure to end all of the worlds energy troubles.

The first legends game was popular enough to warrant a sequel, which was also released on the Playstation1. The game shares a similar goal to the first. And that leaves us with Legends 3, to be released on the 3DS handheld.
