When the new Mortal Kombat title was announced a while back, one of the first questions I had were of course which characters would make the cut. It was announced not too long ago that Mileena (Which is one of my all time favorites) would be making her way to the next generation’s title, and now we have a video to go along with that statement that shows the classic character pulling off some of her trademark moves in the brutal half-Tarkatan style we all know and love. If you watch the video you can also get another look at the fast-paced tag team combat that is in the game as well as a nice X-Ray rib-shattering shot to follow that.
On top of the brand new game footage we also now have an official PAL box-art which features Sub-Zero and Scorpion fighting with the classic MK Emblem in the background. I think this background looks great and the game is coming together wonderfully. Mortal Kombat will soon be remaking it’s rebirth on the PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 19, 2011. For now though you can check out the Mileena clip below to hold you over until then.
Homefront’s multiplayer is something that really needs to be played in order to fully appreciate Kaos Studios’ work. They have actually built-on and improved on first person shooter multiplayer, with many new features and game mechanics which definitely makes this game stick out amongst the crowd in a good way. The year is 2027 and America is conquered and under occupation by the unified North and South Korea, the Greater Korean Republic. Multiplayer puts you into the shoes of the American Resistance or as a Korean soldier in large scale warfare. Yes that’s right ‘large scale’ no corridor shooting here, the emphasis here is on putting player into battle in large environments which adds to the scale and scope of the game.
Maps in this game sort of play out like three smaller maps combined together, in “Ground Control” where both sides attempt to take and hold three locations on the maps which gains points for their side À la “Call Of Duty domination”. However once a side completes this task, the map opens up with more points to hold depending on who won. This means that players aren’t playing through the same map 15 or 20 minutes in, as the map dynamically changes based on actions within the game. Playing on an Xbox 360, I have to mention the Xbox exclusive map “Suburbs” because it plays great and is notably an infantry only map, but that’s fine as is it’s smaller but provides more compact and intense fire fights. Whilst it may not be as team focused as Battlefield games, Homefront multiplayer works better when you’re playing alongside your team.
Alongside industry standard player ranking system and classes, Homefront Multiplayer is constantly changing and evolving thank to its unique Battle Points system (BP). An in game currency system in which players are reward BP by killing enemies, headshots, assists, destroying vehicles etc. These points can then be spent on special weapons such as rocket launches, vehicles, drones and a number of things that can benefit the entire team. BPs can be spent at anytime in a match, players can choose to spend them early giving your team a possible advantage or can be saved up to buy something big like a tank or an Apache Helicopter.
This gives the game gradual progression, as a match might first start out small with players just trying to capture objectives but in later parts of a match, it will get very intense with just about everyone in a tank, helicopter or APC . Not only this, each side has their own A.I controlled Battle Commander who automatically assigns players “high priory enemy targets”, these targets are basically anyone who is on a killstreak, the Battle Commander places a large bounty of BPs on them and notifies a certain number of players on their position in the form of a radius of their general location on the minimap. Campers be warned as a “high priories target” the more kills you make, the larger the bounty on your head will become and more enemy will be notified and be sent in to kill you. Clearly you know you are dominating after the entire enemy team has been notified and sent in to kill you.
Good news for Australian gamers, Homefront will have dedicated servers for multiplayer. Based in Sydney, these severs will be live at launch to ensure that gamers will have the best possible lag-free experience. Homefront’s multiplayer is definitely a strong point and I’ll go so far to say that it lives up to the hype, combining unique game mechanics, gameplay that changes and evolves over time in a match and large scale environments. Now we just have to wait and see how Homefront’s campaign will fare.
Homefront releases onto the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on March 17, 2011.
De Blob 2 is blobbing its way to awesomeness. Check out the videos below and then get ready to bring color back to a dull world. Since the first game was hampered by its one console system exclusivity, it will be great to play the game on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii. Defeat the evil Comrade Black with your new robot sidekick Pinky. Upgrade yourself in the single player campaign and then take the fight to the competitive or cooperative arena. Are you ready to start the color revolution and bring life back to the polluted city? Then get ready, as the game will launch on February 22, 2011.
Those waiting to pre-order NIS America’s Hyperdimension Neptunia can now pre-order the game from all major retailers and from NIS America themselves. There is even more good news, as anyone who buys the game early in its release will be able to pick up the Premium Edition as it will be available from all stores. But keep in mind that considering that this Premium Edition is available everywhere that supplies will be limited.
The Premium Edition will include a collectible box, the game itself, and a hard cover art-book full of different concept art, sketches and character information. But those are just the bonuses as the game itself which features many references of the video game industry; including the three major consoles and developers from Japan, the ability to summon classic game characters to your aid and even the ability to customize your own attacks to destroy enemies in your own way.
There has been a lot of action horror titles released, but what about plain old horror games. These games were designed simply to scare the player and provide a terrifying experience for all involved. Now Japan hasn’t forgotten about terror and this is especially evident as Marvelous Entertainment has begun working on a game for the Wii called Night of the Sacrifice (Ikenie no Yoru).
Now there is a trailer below to take a look at, but one thing that players should take note of, rather than using the Wiimote which is standard, this game will take advantage of the Wii Balance Board. Not entirely sure how this will work out, unless players walk in place on the board and walk a linear path however. Unfortunately there currently is no release date in the West, nor one in Japan, but hopefully this unique horror experience will make its way overseas.
Looks like all of that limb severing in the different studios at EA have made it so parts of Dead Space 2 have landed in another game. It just so happens that EA has announced that anyone who buys a copy of Dead Space 2, within at least a few weeks of release next Tuesday, will be getting a code that unlocks a special suit of heavy armor in Dragon Age 2.
Called the Ser Isaac of Clarke armor it has a number of rune slots, adds bonus to your armor stat and critical damage, and also requires a relatively high dexterity skill to wear. Also considering the armor itself is heavy type you must be a class that can wear that armor too of course. Besides all the technical stuff, a video was also released to show off the armor in action and I must say that space age equipment actually suits Dragon Age 2 quite well.
Killzone 3 will be released in stores February 22nd in the US and Europe on the 23rd but what about a open beta for the multiplayer that was discussed in the past? Thankfully it seems that Sony hasn’t forgotten about giving fans a taste of action before the game releases. For two weeks players will be able to sample all three of the online multiplayer modes that Killzone 3 will have; including 16-player Guerrilla Warfare, 24-player Warzone, and 16-player Operations. Also included in the demo is a Botzone where players will fight against computer opponents in an online setting.
This open beta will give players a taste of not only the multiplayer on the Frozen Dam map, but will also give a taste of the game’s Move support and, if you have a TV to support it, stereoscopic 3D. So this means that players will be able to advantage of this beta and its contents until February 14th and the 15th respectively.

EA and Crytek are planning on releasing a Crysis 2 multi-player demo. Download the demo on January 25, but only if you are an Xbox 360 owner and a Gold Live member.
“Crysis 2 offers a fresh, new take on multiplayer — one that will stand out and establish the game as a top contender in the first person shooter genre,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek. “The Nanosuit gives gamers a sense of power they have yet to experience in any other shooter and having New York City as a backdrop will present a different type of playground with even more possibilities.” (Like being invisible!)
The demo will have two game modes. On the Skyline map you can play Team Instant Action or, deathmatch. The other mode is called Crash Site. Battle for control, (and points!) of alien drop pods. The full game, developed by Crytek UK, will include six gameplay modes and 12 maps in New York City. In the campaign, 50 multiplayer ranks and upgrades will be available to earn.
Preordered copies of the Limited Edition include a camouflaged SCAR assault rifle, early access to the Holo Decoy attachment, Platinum Dog Tags and Bonus XP.
Get the game on Xbox 360, PlayStation3 PC on March 22, 2011 in North America. In Europe, the date for release is March 25, 2011.
Sometimes, you can be your own worst obstacle. For Duke Nukem Forever, the obstacles may be over. 2K Games have just revealed that the release date for the game is May 3rd in North America. A worldwide release will follow on May 6, 2011.
2K Games head Christoph Hartmann said, “The moment fans all over the world have been waiting for is almost here. Duke Nuke’em’s return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!”
And now, we should probably insert a witty comment about the years that the Duke has in seclusion. What are your best quips? Check out the new trailer below while you wait for inspiration.
