Gun Loco canceled by Square Enix

With little notification Square Enix has killed off a game that some may remember, and some may never even heard of. First shown off at Gamescom last year Gun Loco was set to be a on over the top FPS where players were set on a prison planet and forced to fight one another. There was also the fact that the character models all were based off of plastic models.

Despite the fact that the game was playable at Tokyo Game Show last year there will be no further developments into Gun Loco and any chance of the game being released is gone. The game itself was being developed internally by Square Enix themselves so as to why it was canceled is anyone’s guess, could it have been in pursuit of better choices or simply turning into a bad concept? We may find out soon, or never.

URL Hunter – A game played entirely in your URL bar

Every once in a while someone comes up with a unique and interesting game idea that changes the way we think about what a game is. The last game that had that kind of effect for me was Wolfenstein 1D, a game played along a line only one pixel wide and still surprisingly faithful to the classic FPS. Today there is another.

URL Hunter is a game that takes places entirely in the address bar of your web browser. As you can see in the above “screenshot” of the game, you can control an O and you need to kill all the little a’s that are running rampart in your URL bar. The number on the side counts down your time limit and the game will give you your score once your task is complete. You can try it out here, although you should open the link in a new window. Since URL Hunter was programmed by altering the way HTML5 refreshes your page, you’ll find it difficult or impossible to use your browser’s back button after playing.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has made a long-term studio-wide license agreement with Epic Games, enabling them to use the award-winning Unreal Engine 3.

The development software will be available for any team developing a Warner-published game across PC, console and mobile platforms and, through 2014, will be the exclusive game engine used on projects being developed by Rocksteady Studios who are currently working on Batman: Arkham City NetherRealm Studios, the team behind award-winning Mortal Kombat franchise for Warner Bros. ANARCHY REIGNS – Blacker Baron Unveiled

Today on SEGA America’s blog they posted some news. This news pertains to a certain new brawler being published by the company by the title of ANARCHY REIGNS. This game is currently being looked forward to by many gamers for its throwbacks to classic Platinum games, such as Madworld and Bayonetta.

Developers Platinum games have already unveiled characters from the MadWorld franchise (Jack) as playable in this new brawler. Today they unveil a new character for ANARCHY REIGNS from the title MadWorld. You may recognise the name, or at least part of it, as it pertains to a very important character in the game. That name: The Blacker Baron. Yes, the Black Baron is back and is even blacker than before… hence the name.

To quote SEGA –

Today we’re proud to introduce Blacker Baron, another character from SEGA and PlantinumGames’ upcoming brawler, ANARCHY REIGNS. Did we say introduce? We certainly mean re-introduce, as those who played Madworld (that’s everyone right? …right?) will certainly see a familiar face.

Resistance 3 – Competition finalists

A couple months ago, we told you about a competition that involved Resistance 3, props, costumes, prizes and alien horror.  The day of reckoning has now come.  The Playstation Blog has revealed that Insomniac Games has finished picking the finalists.  Of these finalists, two will win big.  Then, they will be able to fly to California, have their heads scanned, and then be put into the final game.  Check the blog post here: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/03/11/resistance-3-get-in-the-game-competition-finalists/

So, go have a look, laugh a little, examine the finer pieces of art and then plan your revenge for not being picked.  After all, the winners will be in a video game, and when you play the game, ANYTHING can happen.  Like, say, leaving a man behind to fight for himself against hordes of aliens?  Yea, that is cool.  😀

Battleblock Theater Opening Cinematic is blocks of LOLZ

The Behemoth has blessed us with a new trailer for BattleBlock Theater, and it is a doozy of a video.  In it, we learn the secrets of the characters we will be playing as.  In addition, the cinematic reveals the details of the how the story begins.  All this highly interesting information is presented in a fanciful and hilarious way.

The humor in the trailer should hopefully make its way into the game, and that means that this is yet another great project from the guys who brought us Castle Crashers.  So sit back, relax and get ready to slap your knees (or whatever else you slap when you laugh.)
