Super Street Fighter 4 3D ships 1 Million units…

This news isn’t too surprising, as we are dealing with Street Fighter here, but it seems the first Nintendo 3DS title to ship 1 million is now Super Street Fighter 4 3D which according to Capcom, just recently accomplished the impressive feat. Of course have one million shipped doesn’t quite mean having the same number sold, but either way it does mean that this title is flying off shelves fast enough for Capcom to deliver more.

I am now a bit curious just how well Dead or Alive Dimensions will fare compared to Street Fighter as yes, the franchise isn’t as large, but it is the next big title hitting the 3DS after a near two month drought. Our very own review for Super Street Fighter 3D is coming up rather soon, so hang tight for that and a big congrats on the accomplishment goes out to the whole team at Capcom for producing one of the leading 3DS launch titles.

New Plot Details revealed for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City..

Finishing off with our Captivate coverage comes some big news for fans that are anticipating Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Over at Capcom Unity, we were given a nice preview of just how the game will play and what to expect from the latest installment of the Resident Evil franchise, and Raccoon City may certainly take the series in a whole new direction. For this title, Capcom will be teaming with Vancouver based studio Slant 6 Games, who worked most notably on Socom 3 and Socom Confrontation.

Instead of the standard Resident Evil experience, Operation Raccoon City will be a team-based shooter which will throw Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons into the mix to not only compete against the opposing team’s squad, but to also add a more unpredictable element into the game itself.

It is September 1998 and the action centers on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Meanwhile the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of elite soldiers to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Service soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in up to four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.

As far as story goes, I think it is too soon to tell just how deep this title will follow the Resident Evil series as it seems to definitely possess a more spin-off vibe, but it is great to see the potential to be introduced to some new characters. Moving on, a full list of features was also revealed for Operation Raccoon City.

Features are set to include:

  • Team based shooter set in the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe.
  • Triple threat battle as zombies and B.o.w’s add to the action.
  • Compete alone in Campaign mode as an umbrella Security Service member or in a four player co-op team battle.
  • Rewrite the history of the raccoon City outbreak. revisit classic moments from Resident EvilTM 2 and Resident EvilTM 3 and watch events unfold from the perspective of the umbrella Security Service.
  • Return of favorite RE enemies, iconic landmarks and characters, including leon S. Kennedy who is on your hit list to eliminate.
  • Competitive online multiplayer modes provide a unique gaming experience thanks to the three corner combat between the umbrella Security Service, uS Special ops and threat of zombies and B.o.w’s.
  • I for one am all for seeing a new style of shooter, and with returning characters such as Leon that you actually have to “eliminate”, this could be a very interesting game that might have a lot to offer to the main canon of Resident Evil’s Plot. Resident Evil Raccoon City makes its debut this winter for the Xbox 360, PS3, & PC this winter, but for now you can check out some brand new screenshots below.

New Cinematic Trailer for Street Fighter X Tekken Arises from Captivate..

It has been a little while since we have heard anything about Street Fighter X Tekken which was announced late last year along with Namco’s Tekken X Street Fighter. Today over at Captivate, gamers were treated to one of the best cinematic trailers that I have personally seen in years for Street Fighter X Tekken. This clip not only shows the Tekken fighters in a stunning, new art style, but also presents all the familiar cast of Street Fighter preparing to throw down with some of Namco’s finest.

Over on Capcom’s blog, jgonzo confirmed a few features for the game as well as consoles it will be gracing:

  • Dream match up – Dozens of playable characters including Ryu, Ken, Guile, Able, and Chun-Li from Street Fighter as well as Kazuya, Nina, King, Marduk, and Bob from TEKKEN.
  • Real-time Tag Battle – Fight as a team of two and switch between characters strategically.
  • Familiar Controls – In SFxT, controls will feel familiar for fans of both series.
  • Robust online modes – In addition to the online features from SSFIV, SFxT features totally upgraded online functionality and some new surprises.
  • Another trailer has also shown itself today, but instead of the cinematic appeal, this one purely shows off the intense gameplay, which was developed with the same engine as Street Fighter IV, but a bit more refined. You can check both trailers out below, but proceed with warning as Street Fighter X Tekken drops for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC (yes, you heard that right) for 2012, so this will be a long wait that will require a lot of patience to get through. Thankfully though, it is looking like the wait will pay off ten fold.

New Trailer & Screens Released for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D…

During Capcom’s Captivate Event, a lot more information was revealed for the upcoming 3DS title, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Now of course the game is set to play as the standard Mercenaries we have all seen in the past, where players must try to defeat as many enemies as possible in a set number of time in either single player or online multiplayer, but what makes this title a bit different is the newly added skill slot feature. Players will be able to use up to three different skills to add improvements to weapons performance, reload speed or melee abilities and customize characters to best suit their style of play.

The 3D of course will transform the standard yet familiar stages into the next dimension and the 3DS’ touch screen is also going to be fully utilized as players can simply tap the weapon of their choice to change on the fly which should bode well for the hectic situations.

With all of this new information also comes a brand new trailer which you can check out below. The clip is a bit longer than what we have seen before and takes players through some of the enemies, modes, and playable characters they can expect to see. I for one am just ready to get to see Claire in any Resident Evil game again as she has now been confirmed but the whole roster of characters are really tying together well and along with the demo for RE: Revelations and all the content included, this game alone is reason enough for any Resident Evil Fan to bite the bullet and invest in a 3DS. Check out the brand new screens and trailer below and we will continue to bring you more updates as they come up until The Mercenaries’ summer release.

Mystery Case Files: Dust to Dust Officially Announced for the Wii…

It looks like the Wii is going to be seeing some action after all this year as Nintendo have officially announced that they will be bringing the DS sleuth seires “Mystery Case Files” to the Nintendo Wii with Mystery Case Files: Dust to Dust. Developed by Big Fish Games, this hidden object title will put players on Malgrave Island, where they must hunt for hidden objects and solve puzzles to collect a magically powerful dust scattered across the island.

Players will use the WiiMote control to examine “multi-layered” scenes as they locate concealed items and uncover clues to help them pass brain-teasing obstacles. Multiplayer has also now been added that will allow for two players to crack cases competitively or cooperatively. The Wii has certainly seen it’s share of the genre, but Dust to Dust certainly may the best yet as Nintendo are ready to publish this title themselves. Mystery Case Files: Dust to Dust drops on June 27th exclusively for the Nintendo Wii and once some more information rises on this title, we will be sure to let you know so stay tuned.

    Asura’s Wrath – first trailer

Another revelation from Capcom at Captivate 2011 was the first trailer for Asura’s Wrath, a title they first unveiled at TGS last year but only now has it got a trailer. As you will see from the trailer, it looks to be of absolutely epic proportions with huge antagonists challenging your supremacy.

If the trailer is anything to go by, the game will operate at a relentlessly fast pace with ruthless combat – players will even control their character in the cinematic sequences, directly affecting the gameplay that follows. It will come to PS3 and Xbox 360 and is being built using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3.

    Features
    •  New type of action game –  Asura’s Wrath will seamlessly blend action and narrative and will adopt an episodic nature, more akin to a TV drama series.
    •  Relentless action –  Asura’s Wrath keeps placing gamers in tight situations and says ‘now get out of that.’
    •  What the…? – Unique enemies and planetary sized bosses will continually challenge players’ expectations.
    •  Innovative setting and story – Fusing Asian mythology with sci-fi,  Asura’s Wrath’s universe will be truly unique.
    •  Collaboration with CyberConnect2 – Continues Capcom’s strategy of partnering with the best developers to produce titles to complement its own internal projects.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record unleashed

Capcom lifted the lid on one of their latest projects today; along with many others, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record was announced. It will be a disc-based follow-up to last year’s creative undead action game and will arrive on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 this autumn/fall. You will play as original Dead Rising photojournalist and hero Frank West in what Capcom described as “a reimagining of the Fortune City outbreak”.

Capcom also had this to say: “The new, ‘Off the Record’ storyline means an all new Dead Rising 2 experience. Frank will face off against more twisted enemies, build more outrageous combo weapons, follow his own unique mission structure and explore brand new areas of Fortune City to get his biggest scoop yet.

“Frank’s come back means the return of his trusty camera, with players able to earn Prestige Points (PP) for specific photo opportunities that are graded against criteria such as horror, drama, erotica and brutality.

“In addition to the new scenario and gameplay enhancements, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record offers a suite of technical updates including load time optimisations, improved network performance and a host of system upgrades to deliver a more satisfying Dead Rising experience.”

This new game from Capcom is set in a huge open world and looks to be fully interactive as well as action packed.
