Escape Plan Control Scheme Revealed

During Sony’s Gamescon conference, a game called Escape Plan was announced. In fact, Travis wrote the article right here. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a plethora of information that came with the announcement. However, a preview of the game from IGN has revealed the control scheme used to play the game.

To put it simply, the control scheme will be void of physical controls. So that means the game will be controlled through the touch screen and rear touchpad. It seems that those two functions of the Vita is the main focus of this game, considering there was no mention of the use of motion control or the cameras. The analogue stick was used for camera control, but that could be removed from the final build.

The control scheme wasn’t the only information revealed. The game is being produced by those who developed Fat Princess (with some developers on the team working with the PSP version) and the game takes on a very humourous tone, including the deaths, being described as “heinous and unusual”.

Escape Plan is a puzzle game where you control two characters, Lil and Laarg, throughout different environments ‘through any means necessary’. This is an early build because they were locking their lips and throwing away the key when it came to release and distribution.

UTV Ignition Reveal new Screens for Quarrel…

Like making up words? Own an iOS device? If you said yes to both, you might be interested in UTV Ignition’s latest iOS title by the name of Quarrel. Quarrel combines gameplay elements from the likes of Scrabble, Jumble and Risk to create one simple yet fulfilling word game.

In this title, players control territories filled with various troops where the main goal is to take over the opposition’s territories with your vocabulary skills alone. When an eight-lettered anagram is shown on the screen, it is the your job to quickly create high-scoring words and defeat their opponent. Whoever can dominated the entire map is then declared the winner. It sounds rather simple, but definitely different compared to what we usually see released in the genre. Denki (who developed the game) and UTV Ignition released a fresh batch of screenshots for their new word game, displaying it’s cheery art style and strategic gameplay. Quarrel is set to launch on the iPad/iPhone for $4.99 come late August. Check out the screens down below.

New Sonic Generations Trailer emerges at Gamescom…

Sega had quite a showing at Gamescom, where they presented a shiny new trailer for the upcoming Sonic Generations. This clip takes us through the general plotline of why there is two Sonics (you know, because of the whole “mysterious force” thing”), but personally, I got rather excited seeing the newly designed locales that these hedgehogs are running through.

The Chemical Plant Zone, Emerald Coast, and “Classic Tails” can all be seen in the trailer, promising even more nostalgia for the original fans of the blue wonder. You can check out the new clip below, and then wait a few more months before we see this game released. Damn you “holiday 2011”! Become now!

The Secret World coming April 2012

Today at GAMESCOM 2011 EA and Funcom have announced a release date for upcoming Massively Multiplayer Online RPG game, The Secret World, of April 2012 for the PC. The game is said to be a revolutionary new take on the classic MMORPG formula and will break new ground in the genre.

The game will deny common trends in the genre and aims to create an experience not yet seen in MMORPGs, as stated in EA’s press release:

Imagine a world where secret societies pull the strings of kings and presidents, where vampires are more than just a Hollywood fantasy, and where all the myths, legends and conspiracies are true. The Secret World is an MMO that breaks free from the confinements of character classes and levels and allows players to explore real-world locations with an engrossing storyline. Funcom will not only challenge but redefine long-established MMO standards.

Beta testing for The Secret World is set to begin August 26th, 2011. If you are interested in being a part of that, keep your eyes on The Secret World’s official website here as more details on that shall make their way to the site soon enough.

New FIFA 12 trailer released

The end of September is inching closer and closer, and that can only mean one thing…FIFA 12 is nearly here. EA have released their latest trailer for the upcoming title at Gamescom 2011.

The new trailer shows off some of the features that have been announced for FIFA 12, including Precision Dribbling, Pro Player Intelligence, Tactical Defending, and the Player Impact Engine. It also covers Career Mode, the EA Sports Football Club, and Ultimate Team, making for a pretty rounded summary of what the game will entail.

With just a over a month until its release, EA are already demonstrating that FIFA 12 will not only be a welcomed addition to the franchise, but one that will see a shift (no matter how large or small) in the way the title is played. Don’t just take our word for it, though – check out the new trailer down below.

FIFA 12 will be released on September 27, 2011 in the USA, September 29 in Australia, and September 30 in New Zealand. A demo will also be available on September 13. For more information on the title, check out our handy “All you need to know about: FIFA 12” article here.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier Multiplayer Sneak Peak

Ghost Recon Future Soldier is set to be released on the Xbox 306, PC, and Playstation 3 in 2012. This sneak peak trailer talks about various apects of the multiplayer experience, and is told by the Creative Director Tommy Jacob. The multiplayer aspects talked about in this sneak peak include: shooting, cover, intel, classes and team play.

Most importantly, though, is that we get to see how the game looks and plays; simply because this is what is ultimately going to get us to buy the game. And, well, I can’t say that the game disappoints on either of those issues.

Make sure you check out the trailer, embedded below.

Konami announces Metal Gear Solid….Clothing Collection

Gamescom usually includes some interesting announcements from various publishers, but this bit of news is sure stand out a tad from the rest. Konami have announced that they have partnered up with global design group musterbrand LLC to produce a Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker themed clothing line. This new line of Peace Walker threads will feature urban street ware items like coats, sweatshirts, trousers, T-shirts and hats. Other Konami titles will be added to the line shortly after.

“This exciting partnership will give fans the opportunity to ’suit up’ for one of the most successful video game franchises of all time,” commented Martin Schneider, General Manager for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “The mainstream success of METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER has allowed us to look into new areas to expand awareness, and musterbrand has created a fantastic collection that is both stylish and true to elements in the game.”

After seeing how whored out Mario has become in the clothing world (you have all seen the shirts), I can say it is about time for Snake to get the same treatment. This Peace walker line can be found in selected retailers across Europe and at www.eu.metalgearsolid-store.com as of today. Now if we can get a Castlevania line going….

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is Out Today!

After several delays, the wait for El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is now over. This stylistic action title has been catching notice for quite some time due to the beautiful art style that ties into the combat of the game itself. UTV Ignition, who published the game are very proud of the final result, releasing a comment on this monumental release for their company:

“We are absolutely thrilled to finally bring El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron to gamers across North America,” said Shane Bettenhausen, Director of PR and New Business Development UTV Ignition Games. “The development team in Japan poured several years of passion and creativity into this project, and we are extremely proud that their uncompromising, unique vision carries through into the final user experience.”

If you didn’t know, Sawaki Takeyasu of Devil May Cry fame lead the team of developers behind El Shaddai, who then crafted the game’s rich storyline inspired by events in the Old Testament’s ‘Book of Enoch’. I definitely get an Okami vibe from the game, as I have said before, and based on visuals alone I would say that El Shaddai certainly seems to be the stand out title of the summer. El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is now available for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

So now you tell us, are you planning on picking this one up?

FIFA Street 4 Sneak Peak Video

After announcing that they will be finally adding a new edition to the FIFA Street series, EA have released a teaser trailer showing a glimpse of what next year’s game will look like.

Already from the video we can see they’ve taken a more realistic approach to the player models as opposed to the more arcade-like builds they used in FIFA Street 3. The game will feature international clubs including giants such as Manchester United and City; Barcelona, Chelsea, and Roma, not to mention the likes of the Marseille and the New York Red Bulls which gives the impression that there will be a vast range of clubs to choose from this time round, we’ll just wait to see how many of the leagues will be included in the game.

The video also reveals that the game will be released early in 2012 and we’ll confirm the date as soon as possible.
