Gears of War 3 coming to Germany

To the surprise of nearly everyone, Gears of War 3 was rated “18” in Germany, meaning it can be sold there. It is the first game in the Gears series to be sold in Germany. Whilst speaking at GDC, Epic Games President Mike Capps gave his thoughts on the rating:

“We were so surprised that Gears of War 3 was rated here that we really didn’t have an action plan. I’m very happy that the marketing team at Microsoft was able to put together a booth presence for us at Gamescom with a couple weeks notice. I’ve never even met them, cause we’ve never sold anything [Gears of War] in Germany before.”

He would also like to try to sell Gears 1 and 2 in Germany, and Microsoft is “looking into” that possibility. In Australia, the game is rated MA15+ and in the USA, it is rated M for Mature. Both regions will also get to experience the game on September 20th, 2011.

DirecTV partners with PlayStation 3 to provide Sunday NFL Ticket to subscribers

Currently, PlayStation 3 owners can watch a number of sports games on their console if they have the right services established. While fans of sports could watch either baseball or Hockey, they could not watch football on their entertainment console… until now that is. Earlier today the PlayStation Blog revealed that Sony had entered into a partnership with DirecTV to offer the satellite’s popular NFL Sunday Ticket service which will let viewers watch even un-aired football matches.

The service will cost current DirecTV subscribers an extra $50 to the original price of the Sunday Ticket and can use their PlayStation 3 as an extra receiver. On the other hand if you don’t use DirecTV, you will have to pay a whopping $339.95 to access the service. Those who do use the service will see up to 14 games a week in HD as well as DirecTV’s Red Zone service. Painful to the wallet, but who says that football fans can’t pony up some more cash to see more of what they love.

Far Cry 3’s Gamescom screenshots released; puts bodies in the water

In an effort to keep gamers interested in the Far Cry series, and remind them that they are indeed working on a new title named Far Cry 3, Ubisoft has released a few images for the game for Gamescom. The screenshots don’t show off a whole lot of action, nor what looks like gameplay footage minus one screenshot of what appears to be a sniper rifle taking out a base.

But there is something else to see in these screenshots as well. It appears that the bad guys in Far Cry 3 have a habit of putting their corpses in the water, as not only are we shown bodies tied underwater, but a poor corpse stuck on the riverbank. Whatever happened to decency after killing people with bullets?

How many adventures does Nathan Drake have to have before he realizes that he is always going to almost end up dying, or meet strange people who might be shady? Regardless of the answer, we always have fun playing his game too, and his portable adventure on the Playstation Vita certainly looks to continue the quality that Naughty Dog has always brought to the table. Konami announces Cristiano Ronaldo as face for PES 2012

Yes, you read it right. While Lionel Messi has graced the cover of PES for the last 3 years, Konami has in fact unveiled that Cristiano Ronaldo is going to be the face of the latest addition to the franchise, Pro Evo Soccer 2012.

The announcement was made for gamescom 2011, and will see the Real Madrid player gracing the cover of all packaging and marketing materials. Jon Murphy, the European PES Team Leader, said the midfielder was a perfect fit into the new innovations that are being introduced into the title.

“Cristiano Ronaldo embodies everything we are trying to achieve with PES 2012. He is quick, skillful, with an eye for a pass, and devastating in attack. His movement and energy brighten any game, and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with us in the pivotal title in the PES series.”

When asked to comment on PES 2012, Ronaldo was quick to praise the game.

“I have long admired the PES series, but what KONAMI has achieved this year is remarkable.

“Football is all about teams working together and making assists and runs that create attacking opportunities. KONAMI has recreated this perfectly, and PES 2012 is a brilliant simulation of a real match. If you know football, you are going to want to spend some time with this amazing game.”

Ronaldo, currently one of the world’s top 10 highest-paid footballers, was last seen on the cover in PES 2008 alongside Michael Owen (UK) and Lucas Neill (Australia). It is unclear exactly why Konami chose Ronaldo over Messi (Messi was ranked La Liga Player of the Year in 2011), but only time will tell whether he is as well-received as the face for the 2012 edition of the game.

Do you think putting Cristiano Ronaldo on the cover of PES 2012 was a good decision? Let us know in the comments section down below. You can also click here to read more on PES 2012.

Resistance 3 trailer is artistic, beautiful

Playstation and Sony are showing up at Gamescom with their guns loaded and their videos ready to launch. One trailer from their conference was to promote Resistance 3.

Resistance 3 is aiming to be the game that the franchise is remembered for. To that end, Insomniac is really stepping up the intensity in the story and atmosphere departments. This latest trailer, inspired by the recent artwork done by Olly Moss, does not show any actual gameplay, but it left me with a lump in my throat. We can’t wait to get our hands on this game when it comes out in September, exclusively for the PS3.

kinectimals-with-bears-gamescom-03
The adorable Kinect game, Kinectimals, is now getting a sequel, and we have screenshots that show off the cuteness that will be Kinectimals With Bears! Shown off at  Gamescom 2011, these shots show off the black bear, cinnamon bear and panda bear in the environments that you can play with them in. Even the koala and polar bears will be included.

I’m sure MasterAbbott will be delighted to finally actually be able to play with a koala when the game releases on October 11, 2011. What about you? Has it been your dream to always play with bears in the wild?

Just make sure your kids know the difference between fantasy and reality, because we really don’t want to see any headlines from Fox News about Kinectimals with Bears causing problems for children when they go camping.

Update: In addition, Microsoft also announced that this game will be a full retail disc title. However, those gamers who purchased the first game may download DLC that replicates Kinectimals with Bears and that the DLC can be played using the first Kinectimals disc. No pricing has been announced as of yet. /end update.
