Soul Sacrifice Confirmed For The West

Soul Sacrifice, Keiji Inafune’s Playstation Vita title, will be heading to Western territories in the future. This was confirmed on both the US and European Playstation Blogs. The game has been described as a “blended fantasy”, featuring a spell system where the character must sacrifice either items or body parts to perform magic.he more powerful spell, the greater the sacrifice the player needs to make. A release date was not available upon confirmation.

Keiji Inafune explains why it is categorised as a “blended fantasy”:

What I wanted to illustrate in this game was a “reality blended into a fantasy world”. The word “fantasy” normally points to a story that is fictitious; however, with Soul Sacrifice I wanted to illustrate a “reality” within a fantasy that wasn’t sugar-coated. It’s not about focusing on the strange, but to flip the commonly held concept of what a fantasy theme should be with the concept of “reality”.

Cruelty is a reality in our world, and we have to make sacrifices and pay costs on a daily basis. I wanted to blend this “reality” theme into a fantasy world, one filled with magic, and create a new type of gaming experience that relied on the player making sacrifices in order to obtain great power.

There is a “dark pleasure” lying in between fiction and reality that none of us knew was there. If you simply think of it as a “dark fantasy,” then your expectations will be betrayed – but in a good way. Please look forward to Soul Sacrifice. It will be a game that players around the world will surely enjoy.

Malicious Is Reborn For Vita, Screenshots Included

Alvion might not be familiar to everyone, but they are the developers behind Malicious, a Playstation 3 downloadable game available in Japan (since 2010) and Europe (since 2012). The game’s success has spurred the developers to re-release it, only for another platform: the Playstation Vita. The game will be titled Malicious Rebirth and is set for a Summer release in Japan. In Malicious, players control a Spirit Vessel sent to battle creatures known as Malicious.

In addition to the Playstation 3 content, Alvion will be adding new stages and enemies that will only be found in the Playstation Vita version. This is the first time Alvion has divulged into the Vita version since announcing it late last year. Famitsu has released a sleuth of screenshots, which you can check it below. It is unknown whether the Vita version will be released outside of Japan.

Konami Discusses New San Francisco Studio

Konami’s Pre-E3 Show Report began with an interesting insight into a huge step for the company: a brand new studio based in San Francisco.

The segment began with John S. Coligan, the director of operations for social and social mobile portfolio at Konami, as he revealed they decided to set up a studio in the Bay so they could work closer with Google, Facebook, Apple and other First-Party partners. After briefly mentioning social games they’ve been working on such as Facebook games Twilight CarnivalFrogger Pinball which is also on iOS and Frogger Classic on Google Chrome. Next up Coligan revealed a new title in the works: Frogger Frenzy.

Before bringing the segement to a close, Coligan announced a major move for the company: they have sealed a deal with Zynga to publish Konami social titles across the network of over 240 million active users. Apparently a bunch more exciting things are in the works too, but Konami is keeping that on the down low for now.

KOTOMON update 1.1 available for download; improves game a lot!

If you’ll remember, I quite enjoyed my time with KOTOMON, although I had some nagging issues with it. However, MONSTARS INC has released an update to KOTOMON that improves the entire game a lot.  In the iTunes game menu, you will find the following patch notes provided by the developers, which explain what was fixed in the game:

  • Our monsters learned that lava is dangerous and now they will not fall into the lava themselves so easily.
  • You can now drop off your monsters by also removing your finger and tapping and holding the screen for a second.
  • There is now a circle effect at the Main Camp screen which indicates the area of which monsters to take to battle.
  • Drago became a bit courageous! He now does not faint anymore when out of gas.

The developers also promise that, “There are still other things we are working on our update and we hope to enhance the experience as we go along.”

Check out the trailer below to get a taste of what you are missing if you haven’t played KOTOMON yet!

However today at their pre-E3 conference the company revealed the first gameplay footage we’ve seen of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance in a very long time.

The trailer itself can be seen below and in it we see some very bloody, high-speed action that PlatinumGames is known for. Besides plenty of lovely looking sword slices, blood spillage and vehicles being chopped up Konami revealed the game’s release window of early 2013.

Hybrid shown off by 5th Cell; E3 2012 trailer in tow

From the developers of Scribblenauts comes Hybrid, an FPS set in the future with jetpacks.  Although that hardly sounds original, it appears that 5th Cell will actually be able to make Hybrid stand out in the shooter genre.  Some features of the game include:

  • Massive Online World War
  • Intense 3v3 Air and Ground Combat
  • 60FPS @ 720p
  • 10 Different Maps & Modes
  • Tons of Weapon and Abilities

Hybrid will be releasing on XBLA.

The story of Hybrid is:

“In 2032 a newly built Hadron Supercollider imploded, obliterating Australia. The world was sent into turmoil as an alternate reality collided with our own and from it emerged a species known as the Variant. Chaos ensued and world war broke out between the Variants and a group of rebel humans known as the Paladins.”

Entire Zone of the Enders HD Collection opening animation revealed

During Konami’s pre-E3 press conference they showed off a few snippets of the newly created opening animation for the Zone of the Enders HD Collection however at that time they stated that the full video would be viewable on their website.

Unfortunately the video wasn’t made immediately available, but Konami has just now uploaded the opening animation in its entirety in the below video. The company behind the animation, Sunrise, has delivered quite an outstanding performance and the animation is accompanied by a rather nice piece of music, which fans may remember as the opening song to Zone of Enders 2, which is called Beyond the Bounds. What do you think about this anime styled opening for this beloved franchise?

Rayman, Metal Slug 3, and 99 Seconds Arrive on Nintendo Download

As promised, this week’s big arrival on the eShop is none other than Rayman. This Game Boy Color port has arrived for the 3DS’ Virtual Console, and lets players strap on the gloves of Rayman as he sets out on his first Nintendo handheld journey. As expected, the price on this classic is $4.99.

Next up is a sequel for a game many of you probably still need to check out. 99Seconds is the successor to EnjoyUp’s 99Bullets, but uses a mechanic based around time control to fight enemies, rather than the bullets. This title is also on the cheap for the DSiWare, as it’s only $1.99. Also on the same service is Kakuro by Nikoli, which is a interesting little puzzler where deduction is key if you want to solve the 50 problems within. Much like Rayman, this romp is also $4.99.

On the Wii front, Metal Slug 3 is now available for 900 Nintendo points, and if you’re craving a demo, Order-Up! for the 3DS has a nice little appetizer in store for anyone who wants to get a first look at the game that is slated to hit the eShop on June 21st.

So there you have it. What’s on the menu for your Nintendo platforms this week?
