Ubisoft’s latest arcade title is a literal god game, tasking players with preventing the Babylonians from completing the Tower of Babylon, because hey, it’s intruding into heaven. Given power over the elements, players can play god on their own or plump for a bit of polytheistic multiplayer with a friend.
A new trailer released today celebrates the games launch on multiple platforms, rolling out this week on PSN and the XBLA, dropping on iOS and Android tomorrow and finally (as always) coming to PC on June 27.
Given the fairly inoffensive tone of the game it will be interesting to see what reaction this title gets from the religious community, a video game where players actually play as the man himself? Uh oh.
Make sure and check out the trailer below, and glory in the(un)holy narration that for one reason or another will certainly make you cringe.

Out Now is the comic in a three part series produced by Marvel and Rockstar about the game Max Payne 3. The first part of the title was released previously and should still be available to download at this site. This is the second issue of said comic.
This issue of the comic ties in with the fourth chapter of the Max Payne 3 video game and explores Max’s psyche as it leads up to his confrontation with Tony DeMarco. It also details a lot about Max’s past, such as his career and family, and events in Max Payne 2.
This looks like something that Max Payne fans everywhere should be checking out and enjoying.
The Australian Classification Board has classified (and as such has unofficially announced) The Expendables 2 Video Game. The post was made this morning, rating the game as MA15+ for ‘strong violence’. The game will be developed by Ubisoft and will feature a multiplayer component.
With The Expendables 2 film scheduled for release on August 17, it seems possible that we’ll have a video game tie-in just in time for the films debut.
However having heard no news about the upcoming game until todays post by the Australian Classification Board, it seems highly unlikely that it will receive a retail release perhaps the game will take the XBLA/PSN/Steam path of other film video game tie-ins such as Battle: Los Angeles.
With only a few days to go, it’s sad to say that it has been announced on the Supanova Facebook page that Hayden Panettiere has once again had to cancel her appearance to Supanova Sydney and Perth. The star of Heroes, Scream 4 and I Love You, Beth Cooper, will not be able to fly to Australia due to a scheduling change for her new series Nashville, a musical drama about a fading legendary country star touring with the rising star of country music Juliette Barnes (Panettiere).
Luckily, Supanova has been able to acquire a guest to replace Panettiere, Alfie Allen. Currently portraying Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, Allen has also appeared on films such as Elizabeth, Agent Cody Banks 2, Atonement and The Other Boleyn Girl.
Supanova Sydney is on this weekend, featuring guests including Christopher Lloyd, Eric Roberts, Vic Mignogna, and Natalia Tena, also from Game of Thrones. What are you most excited about this year’s Sydney/Perth event? Which guests are you looking forward to seeing? Let us know through the comment box below!
Resident Evil 6 gives you the opportunity to pick between 3 playable characters: Leon, Jake or Chris. Each character has their own distinct storyline. Leon’s storyline begins with him encountering the President of the States as a zombie. Chris Redfield, burdened by the weight of the atrocities he has witnessed, is hunkering down in a bar. I’m not really sure who Jake Muller is —other than that he is Wesker’s son — but he also has his own campaign.
Whats most interesting about these stories is that they intersect. You can play the entire singleplayer experience through each of these characters eyes and reveal their unique story. However, during critical moments, each characters plot line will come in contact with another. And these crossovers allow for co-op zombie hunting. In essence, if you are playing the campaign, and the story is at one of these crossover points, RE6 will automatically look for another group of players who are also playing this section and team you up with them. If you aren’t online, these 3 other players will be AI companions. However, you will have control over whether the game can choose people from your friends list, or from the general online populace. In addition, these co-op encounters can be played at anytime you wish, and will add to each characters’ story. Most interestingly, when you replay one of these campaigns as a different character, the level will dynamically change and offer different gameplay choices, like a different gun.
During the singleplayer demo, I played the respective first level of Chris and Leon’s’ campaigns.
Leon’s storyline feels very much like Resident Evil games of old. He plods along, and each every step he took sent shivers down my spine. ‘What was that sound? Is a zombie near? Please don’t let the lights go out! HOLY CRAP WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT SOUND?!’
As I explored a mansion, I found a father looking for his daughter. As we kept moving, looking for the man’s daughter, I felt extremely moved by this man’s dedication and anxiety over his daughter. Eventually, we found his daughter, and it was quite a frightening experience, as she jumped out of nowhere with a nasty sound effect to go along with her entry. Then I had to escort them to the elevator. Of course, during the elevator ride, the lights went out and she turned into a zombie, which triggered a QTE.
All in all, I found this campaign to be the most terrifying of them all. There were a lof dark areas and confined spaces. The sound effects were amazing and perfectly placed. I know a couple people watching me must have laughed as I jumped in my seat. I also found the storyline to be really good, and I appreciated the emotional investment of a father looking for his daughter. I hope these meaningful missions are ever-present in RE6.
Nevertheless, I did have some serious quibbles with RE6. For one thing, Leon plods… along… so… freaking… slow. And… the.. AI… companions… are… even… worse. At one time, I literally had to wait 30 seconds for my partner to catch up so we could move some junk out of way. In addition, the controls don’t feel very tight. I had to try a QTE in the elevator about 5 times before I got it right. I would almost finish wiggling the stick, and then it would fail me out at the very last second; I still have no idea why I failed so many times. Its like Leon doesn’t feel comfortable in his own skin or something, as I constantly felt like everything was stiff and awkward.
Chris Redfield’s campaign is much more action oriented. After being found drunk as skunk in a bar he is convinced to return to the battlefield. His storyline feels very much like a Call of Duty game, except with zombies. Use ziplines, grab ammo, level up your items and get some head shots.
I had the same problems Chris Redfield though. The controls feel like they are from 2007, and they are incredibly awkward. I kept thinking: “Really, I have to press ‘A’ to jump off a crate after I pressed ‘A’ to hop onto it?” At least Chris doesn’t creep around like a flippin’ mouse though. Instead of that problem, he has a UI issue. When you want to change items, you need to pull up an incredibly unintuitive menu. About the half time, I would switch to the wrong item on accident and have to restart the process. I didn’t really have problem in Leon’s storyline with the UI –each campaign has its own unique art style, UI elements, etc — but I had a devil of time finishing up the Redfield demo.
Nonetheless, if you liked RE5, then you’ll probably feel right at home with Chris Redfield’s plot.
Ever since it was announced, the Star Trek game has been a hotly anticipated title. At E3 2012, I was able to get a close look at the game.
This game will take place in between the JJ Abram’s movies and features the voice support of both Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, in addition to most of the voice actors from the 2009 reboot, including Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Anton Yelchin.
An attack on New Vulcan has been reported, and Kirk and Spock immediately answer the call, beaming down to the planet’s surface to investigate.
The major announcement to come out of E3 2012 was that the main enemy you will be fighting are the Gorn, a lizardlike creature that has been a major part of Star Trek canon. The Gorn are able to infect Vulcans, thus making it so that you’ll also occasionally have to battle ‘zombie’ Vulcans, although you can merely incapacitate the pointy eared attackers if you wish.
As Kirk and Spock investigate the sick Vulcans, they are attacked by the Gorn and by some Vulcans. After the battle, Spock uses his scanner to find out about what is happening to the new colony and to find safe routes for you to travel forward.
During most of the demo that I saw, the main focus was on combat. Unfortunately, it looks like a fairly standard 3rd person shooter. However, you do get to use Spock’s famous Vulcan Neck Pinch to knock out enemies, which is pretty rad. Mind melding was also featured. Although I was a little disappointed in the action sequences, it is still quite exciting to get to play co-op as the one of the most famous duos ever. Plus, in many of the trailers that have been released, there will also be major focus on traversal, puzzle solving and many other elements that Star Trek has been famous for.
Luckily, the main focus of this Star Trek game, and its heritage, is story and atmosphere. Thankfully, Digital Extremes appears to have nailed these elements head on. Kirk and Spock frequently banter back and forth during the gameplay, thus making the experience incredibly rich. After the first battle, Kirk and Spock are confronted with a broken bridge. Kirk naturally tries to jump it, but barely manages to grab onto the opposite side while Spock manages to use the scanner to find a solution and rescue Kirk. Watching it unfold, and hearing the familiar voices from the movie, it felt very intense. Set-piece moments like these truly got me involved. Playing with a friend during this game will be a must to get the full experience because during cutscenes, the game will show you the different perspectives of each character.
After some more combat, Kirk and Spock are again forced to jump, this time onto a moving shuttle craft. As Spock fights off the Gorn, Kirk again barely manages to get a handhold onto the ship, just as Spock is locked in battle with one of the lizard men. He manages to kick a blaster at Kirk, who gets a shot off at the attacker. All in all, it was extremely entertaining, and if the the developers can keep up these types of adrenaline pumping moments, I forsee this game becoming a respected part of the Star Trek series.
Digital Extremes has worked closely with Nvidia to make sure that the 3D experience is as good as possible . To that end, in the demo room, there were two television sets. However, each person was able to get the full 3D experience of each screen no matter where they were seated. That said, other than the character models and 3D stuff, the visuals are a little bit on the bland side. Then again, I was impressed with the incredible vistas, like the example shown below.
After the demo initially ended, I was a little concerned about how good the game would be. However, after I thought about it a bit, my concern eased. After all, I only witnessed the combat scenarios, and although the actual gameplay was a bit lackluster (aside from the Vulcan melees), there was still a lot of emotional investment during the battles. In addition, there is a strong story element, especially with the original voice actors coming onboard. Plus, the Gorn appear to be a fairly intelligent enemy; hopefully they are fun to fight.
Finally, the most compelling element was that you are going to be able to use all the famous Star Trek gear: scanners, phasers, alien weaponry and more. Although I would have preferred it to be similar to Mass Effect, the asynchronous co-op, riveting set-pieces and amazing story & dialog will hopefully carry this game through.
A few months ago it was revealed that Nintendo would be celebrating Kirby’s 20th Anniversary with a collection of some of his best games. At the time of announcement no one knew exactly what which games would be included in the list. Now Famitsu and Andriasang have discovered the full list of games, seen below, that players will be able to guide the pink puffball through.
Kirby’s Dream Land (Game Boy)
Kirby’s Adventure (NES)
Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (Game Boy)
Kirby Super Star (Super Nintendo)
Kirby’s Dream Land 3 (Super Nintendo)
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (Nintendo 64)
It is worth noting that Nintendo of America didn’t announce these titles for the West yet, though it is highly likely that these games will probably be the same ones available on that release. As for Japan, they can expect to see this release on July 19th and anyone who picks up the compilation will also receive a free soundtrack CD full of some of the best Kirby music. Are there any titles on here you’ve never played Kirby fans? Or perhaps gems that were left out?
