Anno Online Closed Beta Online Now

anno-online-screenshot-5

Ubisoft has announced that Anno Online’s English closed beta has now opened. The latest game in the Anno series, Anno Online takes the fundamentals of strategy and city-building online in a MMORPG environment (hence the name). We reviewed the last game in the series Anno 2070 and we didn’t think it was that bad.

The latest instalment is a free to play web-based game, with the main goal for players this time around: to bring life to their islands. A direct gaming mechanism taken from 2009’s Anno 1404, however you won’t be alone as players can cooperate with friends thanks to a new guild system.

This new feature will allow them to create their own guild, name, and a guild tag. Up to 25 members can be invited into a guild and establish a strategy thanks to the guild chat channel.

For more on how to access the closed beta, head on over to Anno Online’s official website.

the-realm-01
Atomhawk
continues the trend of big time game developers using Crowdfunding sites to launch games. Renowned for their graphic contribution to massive hits like DmC, Dead Island, Mortal Combat and Enslaved, Atomhawk has teamed up with Lantern Interactive to bring us a new point-and-click adventure.

Bringing their iconic graphic eye to the table, Atomhawk have created a post civilisation world where nature has taken over the cities. Having given up technology, humanity has returned to the use of magic.

The Realm‘s story follows Sarina and Toru, a young girl and her giant rock monster. Ron Ashtiani hopes to evoke the emotive responses of games like Ico, while generating an experience like Monkey Island. They believe ₤195,000 will get them over the line.

Participating in the Kickstarter will reap you the usual goodies. There’s plenty for pledger’s to get out of this campaign outside of a gorgeous looking game. You can have a portrait of yourself in the game’s style drawn by the artists themselves, be taught the ins and outs of game music composition and art master class, a visit from the developers and limited edition art.

The World Premiere of McConkey at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City brought together a cross-section of the film industry’s elite, sports legends and friends and family today. The film was selected as a Spotlight film in its 12th festival season and has had four screenings at the Festival, with a fifth screening added due to high demand.

McConkey celebrates the life of one of the world’s ultimate innovators, Shane McConkey – a pioneer in freestyle skiing and base jumping. In the latest film from Red Bull Media House in association with Matchstick Productions, Shane’s legacy is front and center.

The film marks the first 2013 release from Red Bull Media House, a global media company head-quartered in Salzburg, Austria.

McConkey will be available for sale Fall 2013. If you’re wondering what appeal it has to you or those unfamiliar with Shane’s world, an audience member at Tribeca said it this way;

What the film leaves us is that a life, any life, without passion is not really a life. And I hope everyone remembers that because to me he personified that in every aspect and it’s such a beautiful legacy to leave.

Paramount Pictures have just revealed that various artists across 6 countries are contributing to the Star Trek: Into Darkness soundtrack. Amongst them are Australians, songwriter/producer Robert Conley and vocalist Penelope Austin, who co-wrote and worked on a track called “The Dark Collide”.

This is the first time a Paramount live-action film will feature lyricists, vocalists and music producers from around the world, each with their own contribution being spotlighted during the film’s theatrical run in each of the artists’ respective countries. Come May 9th, Aussies will be able to hear our own Conley and Austin‘s work during a pivotal scene with iconic Star Trek character Scotty.

The song – which Conley co-wrote with Austin – will also be found on the Star Trek: Into Darkness official soundtrack, which features Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s score. It will also be available for digital download on all major platforms around the film’s release. Austin had this to say about the experience;

It is such a phenomenal opportunity that six artists around the world have been offered this opportunity. I am so excited to see and hear the results at the Premiere of Star Trek: Into Darkness at the Premiere tonight.
