“This is a red letter day for the team”, said Adrian Banninga, CEO of Allgraf, “Darkout’s launch presents the first stage of a gaming experience set on the post-apocalyptic planet Illuna.  Our mix of strategy, exploration and storytelling will capture the imagination of both newcomers to the genre and veterans equally, as our passion to unveil the Darkout experience begins.”

As the survivor of a crashed stasis pod players must survive on Illuna, a world horrifically transformed since humanity tried to escape it. Darkout is a sci-fi sandbox game with RPG and survival elements seamlessly integrated into procedurally generated worlds that ensure all games will be played differently. Darkout’s unique research and crafting system encourages players to be creative and innovative with their strategies against a horde of light-sensitive creatures that become all the more abundant in darker places and when night falls. Further explore the world through Darkout’s main story and logs left behind by others that shed light on what happened in Illuna’s past and what place your character has in its future.

Finding and interacting with items, gathering resources, building shelters, crafting weapons,  exploring,  assimilating and activating intuitively presented stats screens must be strategically balanced for your ongoing welfare. Beware of the Boss, a fight to the death  could ensue but the rewards for killing it would be substantial. With more exciting stages in development  including multiplayer and expanding narrative within the Darkout universe, complete with an unfolding saga, the first stage of Darkout is an unmissable challenge but most importantly it is fun!

Game Boy-esque ‘Two Brothers’ Is Now Available on Steam

Two-Brothers-01

The new title Two Brothers is now available for purchase on Steam for $11.24 USD, 25% off the original price of $14.99. The game brings back the old school Gameboy graphics, utilizing the retro-inspired design to create a great experience for the gamer. This indie game was developed by Ackk Studios, a Kickstarter funded company formed by two brothers and their friend with the hopes of creating an exciting video game.

The game is an Action/RPG, and follows the story of Roy Guarder, a scientist/philosopher that is determined to discover where or what life originated from. When he discovers the answers he was looking for, he tragically perishes. However, after his death, he is met with a world filled with colors and beautiful sights. Roy is able to pass through the line between life and death, often ending his life on purpose to witness the beauty that is the so-called “afterlife”. The question remains though: “Why is Roy the only person with the ability to do this?”

Two Brothers has a huge, non-linear world that allows the story to end differently each time you play it. It also has a multitude of side quests for players to engage in. The game features the ability to view the game world in black and white or in full color. The game is due to release a Mac version in the coming weeks. Watch the trailer below, and check out more about this game here.

After the announcement that The Walking Dead Season 2 would start later this month, we knew that the story would continue to follow Clementine but until now, that is pretty much all we knew about the game. However thanks to a tweet from Telltale GamesTwitter account, featuring the picture above, we now know that Omid will also be returning in the game.

Currently it is unknown exactly when the first episode of Season 2, which is called “All That Remains” will be released this month but after the high praise the first season received, I know many people can’t wait to see what has become of Clementine since we last saw her.

Peggle 2 may be released on the Xbox One on December 9

peggle-2-zombie

After the simple but enthralling Peggle 2 was revealed to miss the Xbox One launch, many people were quite disappointed. However it seems that they may not have to wait too much longer for their new Peggle fix. While EA‘s PopCap has yet to make an announcement about Peggle 2’s actual release date, besides “TBA 2013” it appears VentureBeat has learned that the game is going to be released within the week.

According to the site Peggle 2 will be released on December 9th which is only five days away. If this release date happens to be true, it is certainly odd that PopCap is waiting to make the announcement unless they are planning on surprising everyone with the title last minute.

Ace of Diamond Episode 8 Impressions

Ace of Diamond
Episode 8 – The Truth About Chris

Following last weeks game-changing episode of Ace of Diamond, we were left with more questions than answers. What kind of mentor would Chris be for Eijun? Is Chris just another obstacle in Eijun’s way or is he the one to help this diamond in the rough shine? Regardless of all that one thing was for certain, there was something mysterious about Chris, his cold eyes held a sad truth.

Over the course of this episode, Eijun butts heads over and over with Chris, not satisfied with him as his mentor. He is still dead set on Kazuya as his mentor but there is something deeper here, something that idiot Eijun doesn’t realise. The is a story behind Chris that he doesn’t know. The truth about Chris is one that rings very true to reality. Chris was the former star of Seidou, but suffered a shoulder injury after pushing himself too hard and has effectively brought his potential career to what looks to be an early end (here’s hoping that’s not the case).

ace-of-diamond-ep-8-2

Underlining the Chris storyline is the ongoing rivalry between Eijun and Furuya. What makes Ace of Diamond so interesting is the way it distorts the sports anime formula into different shapes and forms. Rather than being confronted with a rival team, Eijun’s real rival is within his own team. It is quite a spin on the usual formula and one that comes off as very refreshing. As the tension builds towards the first major game for Eijun, so does the tension between these two would-be aces. Furuya is brought onto the mound for the first game of the Kanto Tournament as part of the First String and strikes out six players straight. It is hard to see how Eijun can catch up with so much distance between these two rivals. At the end of the day there can only be one true ace and with so many vying for the top spot, it is anyone’s guess what road lies ahead for our idiot hero.

While that rivalry has been a talking point for Ace of Diamond since Furuya’s introduction, Chris has proved to be a major player quite quickly and the reveal at the end of the episode of his injury rehabilitation is a genuine gut punch to the viewer emotionally. Chris has proven to be a tough man to crack and now that we know why he is the way he is, we come to see that he is actually the perfect person to mentor Eijun. What Eijun needs is for his enthusiasm to be reined in and concentrated into something productive. Chris is undoubtedly someone who understands the cost of being too passionate for your own good and he can pass on his own lessons to Eijun.

ace-of-diamond-ep-8-3

It has been shown time and time again that Eijun’s achilles heel is that he is just too passionate for his own good and much like it was for Chris it could prove to be a serious problem if not controlled. There are real consequences at stake and Chris is the embodiment of that. Eijun needs his fire tempered and Chris’ cool persona fits the description to a tee.

Ace of Diamond once again proves that sports anime can be just as compelling and emotionally involving as any genre of anime. It is a damned shame that this series is being so sadly overlooked in the West. But it isn’t exactly surprising as sports anime have historically failed to garner any attention from Western anime fans, which is oddly the complete opposite of the Japanese reception of series like this. It is sad that a series this good doesn’t get half the attention it should, but in the end the only ones missing out are those aren’t watching. Ace of Diamond is brilliant and this episode makes a case for this as one of the best anime of 2013.
