Overview
There is a good chance that until a few months ago, you may never have heard of Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s novel All You Need Is Kill. However now that that novel has been adapted into a Hollywood movie called Edge of Tomorrow, not only have manga adaptations been created but even a western style comic of the novel has been produced for North American release. However is this graphic novel simply a quick cash-in or something that is good enough to stand on its own?

Story
Earth is under attack by alien creatures called Mimics and despite the best efforts of the United Defense Force, humanity is gradually losing the war against these creatures. As such when we join soldier Keiji Kiriya he is the last man in his unit left alive, unfortunately he won’t be for much longer and the only person keeping him company is doing so because she needs to take equipment from his corpse.

Such a bleak ending isn’t the end for Keiji however as he wakes up in his bunk like nothing ever happened. Despite the strange feelings of déjà vu he continues his day like usual, only to enter battle against the Mimics once again and see that everything is unfolding the exact same way as before. Keiji realizes that he is stuck within a loop of death where he is forced to live the same day or so every time that he is killed.

Instead of despairing about his situation, after hearing some advice from his trainer he takes every loop as a chance to better himself by learning new techniques, mastering the ‘Jacket’ armor soldiers wear, and wielding a weapon capable of actually slaying Mimics without leaving yourself too vulnerable to attack. After dying over a hundred times and seeing things unfold this way, he realizes that there is something different about a certain enemy Mimic and by doing so, he catches the attention of the “Full Metal Bitch” Rita Vrataski, the US’ heroic female fighter.

From then on we learn about Rita’s past as well as her own situation of being stuck in the loop created by Mimics that explains how they are able to defeat the forces of humanity so easily. By discovering a way to escape this loop and take advantage of his abilities, the two continue to battle until the stark truth of the situation forces Keiji to take drastic action.

Now… it is obviously difficult to try and present a novel that is over two hundred pages long in a comic book that is less than a hundred pages. So some things need to be watered down but unfortunately there are a lot of things from the original novel that are watered down so much that readers are presented with the bare minimum detail.

There is generally no transition between scenes as Keiji and Rita jump from situation to situation and while some details of their situation are explained, it is so threadbare compared to what is explained in the actual novel that readers will probably be scratching their heads a bit at the twist that the writer throws at readers in the last few pages.

Artwork
As I mentioned earlier, this release of All You Need Is Kill is being handled with a Western style theme meaning the artwork is styled similar to comic books. Therefore it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to hear that Lee Ferguson, the main artist for this release, has worked on numerous comics in the past including some X-Men series and his own series called Miranda Mercury.

The art provided for this release is nicely stylized with a great representation of the Jackets that the soldiers must wear into battle and the Mimics are also notably alien looking and although any amount of gore is kept to a minimum there is a nice sense of action as well as drama in each panel thanks to the coloration of certain panels’ backgrounds.

Overall
All You Need Is Kill’s graphic novel adaptation is by no means bad, but it significantly dilutes a lot of details that readers would need to actually get the most out of the story. Thankfully it does have all of the major details to convey the overall story of All You Need Is Kill as well as some nice looking artwork, but it feels like this release would have benefited from being longer so the author could properly convey the missing details that end up making the story better.

Final Fantasy VII G-Bike Announced for Mobile Devices

Cloud Rides Again

It would seem that Final Fantasy VII just cannot be stopped. Not even time itself can dent the appeal of this loved instalment into the colossal franchise now numbering fifteen in Roman numerals, though this is in no way indicative of how many games have actually been released. Regardless, the list of titles bearing VII is set to grow by one, as Square Enix have announced a new experience exclusive to the mobile platform: Final Fantasy VII G-Bike.

Now if this name seems familiar to you VII fans, that’s because you may have played G-Bike before in a little place called The Gold Saucer. Pulled directly from this world of wonderment, the new and improved G-Bike will help you relive the time you spent ignoring the world’s peril and decided to play games instead. For shame. The new version will feature completely new graphics and a form of customisation that will help you throughout the levels. In addition to racing down the Midgar Highway with the wind rushing through your impossible hair, you will also be forced to fight some familiar boss monsters who just love to get in your way. Naturally, Cloud has his trusty Buster Sword with him, so feel free to blow away any foes you encounter. It’s way more effective than honking the horn.

No specifics have been given regarding the release date of G-Bike, though we do know that it’s in development…so that’s a start. Check out the trailer below, enjoy the rockin’ soundtrack and prepare yourself to ride the Hardy-Daytona once more. It’s kinda the coolest.

Sonic the Hedgehog Feature Film in the Works

Guess what lies ahead, only one way to find out!

Do not adjust your eyeballs friends because you have indeed read correctly, the Blue Blur is heading to the big screen. After some speculation towards the end of last year, it would seem that Sony and Marza Animation Planet are indeed in collaboration to produce a live-action/computer-animated hyrbid film based on the franchise we all know and love…and hate sometimes…damn underwater levels.

The film will be produced by Neal Moritz, who worked on the Fast & Furious franchise, whilst the screenplay will be written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux, both former members of the Upright Citizens Brigade sketch comedy troupe. Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi from Marza are also serving as producers and Toby Ascher is serving as executive producer. Though there may be some doubts emerging over the shift to a hybrid style, the animation is being handled by Marza, who have worked on the CGI in a number of past Sonic the Hedgehog titles. The company also produced the visual spectacle that was Space Pirate Captain Harlock, which despite mixed reviews was nominated for the Japan Academy Prize for Animation for the Year. So you know they’ve got the skills to make this film look good.

Though no details regarding the film have been released in this early stage, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that we’ll see the core cast of the franchise make the transition into the realm of feature films. Will this be yet another fun loving Sonic adventure full of quips and rings, or will the filmmakers decide to do one of those gritty reboots that seem to be so popular nowadays? Most assuredly not, but it sure is fun to think about.

Second Batch Of Attack On Titan Perfumes Released

Attack-on-Titan-Perfume-Batch-1-Pic

Last year anime fans were surprised, excited and above all curious when three bottles of Attack on Titan Perfume were announced, now they can experience those feelings again with four more bottles set to be released after July.

The first three perfumes were based around Eren, Mikasa and Levi, each of them had their own unique smells which were said to represent each of the characters personalities. This next line up of perfumes are based around Erwin, Jean, Hans and Armin and will include a special poster with every bottle. The perfumes can be purchased from the Koubutsu-ya website and will cost around 5,500 yen ($53USD) each, for those that are still curious, here is a brief description of each perfume:

Erwin: Deep citrus and dandy notes of lemon and lime, middle scents of lavender, oak and black pepper cloves and finishing with rose and sandalwood. The smell of an adult man.

Hans: Fragrant herbs combined with jasmine, mugwort and juniper berries will to produce a bittersweet yet mysterious scent.

Jean: Spiced wood tones are complemented with orange and bergamot and oak moss to fully capture his precocious youth.

Armin: Tender vanilla is blended with pineapple, iris, peony and other fruit based aromas which finishes on a wooden note. Armin’s scent gives off his willpower and kindness (am I the only one who thinks they got this one right on the ball?).

Considering how popular Attack on Titan has become it’s safe to assume that not only will these new perfumes be as popular as the first three, but there may also be a third character batch on its way too (maybe with one smelling like hot potatoes). Star Fox is Headed to Wii U!

star-fox-64-3d-screenshot-01

“Do a barrel roll!” words that many of us heard time and time again as we played Lylat Wars (AKA Star Fox 64) on our Nintendo 64s back in the 90s, and then again on our 3DS’ in 2011. Now, the man, the myth, the legend himself Shigeru Miyamoto has officially announced a brand new Star Fox game is headed to Wii U.

As part of a round table discussion at this year’s E3 Expo, Miyamoto stated that he has been working on this game for YEARS and that it was originally intended as a Wii game, but never came to fruition. Not much is known about the project at this time other than it is a primarily space-ship based game that will have the player using the Wii U’s Gamepad to fly their Arwing, and it will serve as a first-person cockpit view of the game.

Get ready to jump back into the cockpit in 2015

Star Fox is just one of a few games that Miyamoto is bringing to the Wii U in the coming months, including a bunch of new IPs like Splatoon and two lesser-known titles; Project Giant Robot and Project Guard. With all the Nintendo news coming out of this year’s expo, do you think the Wii U will be able to regain a foothold in the console war? Let us know in the comments below and remember to stay tuned to Capsule Computers for all the hottest gaming news as it becomes available.

Today for E3 Bandai Namco released a new trailer for Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment and also revealed some new details for the game in the West. In the trailer, which can be found below, we are introduced to the leader of the player killing guild Laughing Coffin, who is named PoH, as well as some new gameplay footage showing off some of the game’s heroines who will be joining Kirito in combat.

Splatoon is Nintendo’s New Online Shooter for the Wii U

splatoon-logo-01

This is probably the biggest news out of E3 for Nintendo, whether you like it or not. I love it, so I think it is time we all get excited for Splatoon, which is Nintendo’s new IP. Yes, that is right. A whole new IP overseen by Shigeru Miyamoto himself, crafted by EAD. Splatoon is a online multiplayer shooter where players take control of squidgirls (it makes sense, keep following), and try to spray ink to claim your territory while fighting off other players.

There are several perks of the ink, such as blocking other trails and protecting your own turf. This title comes out in 2015, and with some more trailers and announcements, I’m sure we will see this little shooter take full form. Check out the trailer down below for more on Splatoon.

DOOM teaser trailer released for E3

doom-e3-teaser-screenshot-01

Today Bethesda didn’t have any major reveal for E3, but they did take a page out of Square Enix’s book. I’m talking about announcing an announcement that will happen at a future event, but at least they are going a step beyond that by actually releasing a teaser trailer and letting us know what that announcement will be.

They have revealed that they will be fully revealing the remake of DOOM at QuakeCon 2014 which runs from July 17th to July 20th. You can check out the teaser trailer below and expect more news on the title next month.

MangaGamer partnering with Ame no Murakumo and Appetite for four new titles

secret-sorrow-censored-01

Recently MangaGamer revealed that they have partnered with two new companies, called Ame no Murakumo and Appetite, to release four of their PC games in English sometime in the future. It is worth noting that although these are two seperate companies, they still work together to create games and as such two games from each branch will be localized, all of which are for Adults Only and appear to be nukige. Now before we say what titles are being localized, it is worth noting that “for various reasons” all of these games will be released with mosaic censorship.

The first of these games is from Ame no Murakumo and it is called Hypno-Training My Mother and Sister. Unlike the rest of the games this one already has a release date of June 20th and it happens to focus on incest and hypnotism. Later in the year, also from Ame no Murakumo, comes the NTR focused nurse game Obscene Medical Records of a Married Nurse. The two titles from Apetite happen to be Secret Sorrow of the Siblings, which is actually an NTR title involving incest, and Forbidden Love with My Wife’s Sister which is self explanatory.
