Overview

Just another new Lego game? Well, this time with LEGOThe Incredibles we definitely got a quite different franchise and can play some other superheroes than the known ones from DC or Marvel. While the game concept hasn’t changed much it’s always great to see some fresh licences making their way into the LEGO universe. The take on Pixar’s characters from the developers  of  TT Games offers a great service for fans right at the start when you see that famous lamp made out of bricks. But of course that’s not all what LEGO The Incredibles has in store for you.

Story

If you haven’t seen The Incredibles 2 yet, you should go and watch it first, because the game starts directly after the events of the first movie. The Incredibles family is trying to stop the Underminer together with friend Frozone. After the task is successful they seem themselves confronted with the police and their no-supers-policy.  After meeting with the Deavors the Paar family is moving into a special house, as they want to bring the supers back. It was quite surprising to me to find out that you have to play through the newest movie and then unlock the first one. I mean what is the sense to use superpowers from characters so early in the game, when the discovery of them is basically a story part of the first movie? I wonder what the developers had in mind using this design approach. Also there are some modifications involved to deliver a more child-friendly game, in other words – no one dies in LEGO The Incredibles.

Gameplay

Besides following the story mode you can explore an open world and start your search for collectibles. Also a second player can jump into the game at any time and on Nintendo Switch you can control a character with a single Joy-Con. Great! There’s no online-mode though, which means that LEGO The Incredibles is purely a singleplayer or couch co-op experience.

If we talk about the characters of course Mr. Incredible makes use of his enormous strength and smashes through walls while Elastigirl can transform her body into different shapes and stretch to reach distant objects. As for the children of the married couple we have Dash, who’s the fastest character not only movement wise but also building wise. Violet has powerful attacks and makes use of her psionic blades, invisibility and protective shields. Of course it is again about using the right characters and abilities to progress through the different levels. With a total of over 100 unlockable characters there is definitely something for everyone and also some unexpected surprises made it into the game. For example Lightning McQueen from Cars, Merida from Brave and Flik from A Bug’s Life. I have to admit though that some characters also appear multiple with different costumes, but they always stick with the same abilities.

Regarding the general gameplay and progression system it’s pretty straight forward and unfortunately Elastigirl’s use of different shapes don’t require any kind of creativity as there’s always only one right way to move on. As mentioned the only way to play this game together with another person is on your couch. There’s a bit of communication needed to solve the puzzles and missions together but you can feel that the team wanted to make this “just” a fun game for the whole family and especially children, so don’t expect any great challenges. As I jumped into the multiplayer together with my girlfriend, she explored the whole world on different vehicles and had a lot of fun. Besides that she also had some good laughs about the characters and dialogues in the game. I guess we can definitely say –  mission accomplished!

Visuals & Audio

Visually LEGO The Incredibles doesn’t differ from other titles of the series. A lot of colors, a lot of explosions and well of course a world made out of the famous bricks. The original voice actors are also part of LEGO The Incredibles and in some cases, where it didn’t work out they found decent replacements. One example is the character Woody, originally voiced by Tom Hanks and replaced by his brother Jim Hanks. The soundtrack from Michael Giacchino is a great fit during  the playthrough and helps to create a great gaming experience.

Overall

As the puzzles are mostly based on scenes from the movies, it might be helpful to have a certain knowledge before playing LEGO The Incredibles. If you get stuck, you can make use of the integrated hint system though. You shouldn’t expect a deep character roster like the DC and Marvel titles from LEGO offer, but if you are a fan of Pixar’s characters and let’s be honest, who isn’t, this game is definitely something you’ll enjoy. Grab your child, girlfriend, boyfriend, mom or dad and spent some nice hours in this colorful LEGO world. In the end there was only question, that I kept asking myself: Why do I play the second movie before the first one?

Exotic Matter Launches Today July 6th in Early Access on Steam 12 pm PDT

Minecraft Meets Metroid – Survive, Explore and Build on a Mysterious Alien Planet Full of Dangers and Secrets.

Exotic Matter is launching their early access edition on steam today July 6th at 12 pm PDT, and as an early bird deal, they will be selling it at 10% off the regular price of 19.99 USD during the first week.

In Exotic Matter, you’ll find yourself shipwrecked on an alien planet, light-years away from earth and your primary mission is to survive. Freely explore the open-world of planet ‘Xcylin’ and dive deep into the roguelike underground facilities of an extinct race to fight the Thanatos and craft your way back home to save yourself and the entire human race. Exotic Matter is not only a game; it’s a full-fledged voxel engine that enables players to create their items/weapons/blocks and even their planet types.

“Most voxel games don’t give you any direction. No specific goal or mission to accomplish. With Exotic Matter, we are trying something different. We drop players on an alien world with a singular goal and a few hints about how to accomplish it, then leave how to proceed up to them. It’s a voxel survival game with a goal, a story, and a carefully designed procedurally-generated Metroidvania world. Not only do you have to survive but you have to explore countless alien facilities in order to succeed and improve your abilities. How the story unfolds, and whether or not you’ll make it, is totally up to you. I like to think it’s a unique approach to the genre: a voxel Metroidvania!” –Florian Frankenberger, Lead Developer

FREE DEMO OF WARIOWARE GOLD NOW AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD FROM NINTENDO ESHOP

FREE DEMO OF WARIOWARE GOLD NOW AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD FROM NINTENDO ESHOP

It’s the biggest WarioWare yet as Wario returns with 300 wacky microgames in WarioWare Gold on Nintendo 3DS from 28th July

6th July, 2018 – Wario is up to his old tricks again in WarioWare Gold which releases exclusively for Nintendo 3DS family systems on 28th July. Press buttons, tilt the system, use the Touch Screen and blow into the microphone through 300 wacky microgames in the biggest WarioWare game yet, featuring a mix of series’ classics as well as some brand new, quick-fire challenges. Try out some of Wario’s favourite microgames today by downloading the demo directly from Nintendo eShop, and watch the WarioWare Gold – Demo Trailer on the official Nintendo YouTube channel.

WarioWare Gold introduces an all-new, fully-voiced story featuring Wario at his mischievous best, as well as an all-star cast of zany characters. After a long day of treasure hunting in Luxeville – and discovering a precious artefact along the way – Wario heads home to play video games and eat food, only to discover he’s all out of money! Watching a news report about a best-selling video game, Wario decides to cash in on the opportunity and persuades some old pals to create games for him so he can host the lucrative Wario Bowl games at the Diamond City Stadium.

Players must battle through the different leagues of the Wario Bowl games by completing a series of quickfire microgames – each unique to their creator – before going to battle with the final boss. Each set of microgames gifts players with just four chances, but if they run out they can keep going if they’re prepared to cough up some in-game coins. Whether it’s Jimmy T with his slick dance moves, Mona’s high sense of fashion or 9-Volt and 5 Volt’s selection of retro classics, players will need to think quick and react sharpish if they want to walk away with the Wario Cup and coins galore. Meanwhile, who is this mysterious girl trying to get to Wario and what is she up to?

Coins won in Story mode by completing the different leagues or fulfilling specific missions can be taken to the Arcade and spent in the Capsule Machine to unlock a treasure trove of additional modes, fun gadgets and souvenirs in the Toy Room, such as:

  • Minigames: Aim to top the high score charts in over 10 unique minigames, including Micro Golf Tour, Autograph! and Mewtroid. There’s even a play on the classic Game & Watch game, Manhole.
  • Studio: Players can show off their voice acting skills by recording their own voiceovers for any of the unlocked movies.
  • Records: Get down and boogie to a selection of songs from previous WarioWare games – some of them even in Japanese!

While any microgame unlocked in Story mode can be replayed as a high-score challenge in Index mode, completing the Story mode unlocks the additional Challenge mode. Within Challenge, 9 barmy game modes put a series of twists on the core mechanics for players to challenge their skills alone or with friends, including:

  • Battle Time: Up to 2 friends can compete against each other and test their WarioWare skills by connecting over a local wireless connection* and taking on the same microgames simultaneously. Each player gets 4 tries and the last player standing is the winner. For players who are new to the WarioWare series or can’t handle the heat, there’s the option to adjust the number of tries for each player between 1 and 4.
  • All Mixed Up: All of the microgames are played at random, so players better have their wits about them if they want to crush their high score.
  • WarioWatch: Time is ticking down! Players only have a limited amount of time to complete as many microgames as possible. Bonus seconds are rewarded for every microgame completed so aim to complete as many as possible.
  • Super Hard: This is the ultimate challenge for WarioWare experts. All microgames start at a high speed and continue to increase in speed as the game goes on.
  • Sneaky Gamer: Take on the role of 9-Volt as he sneakily plays games in bed. Keep an eye on the top screen where 9-Volt’s mother, 5-Volt, is keeping a watchful eye – if she catches him playing, it’s an instant game over.

Mash, touch, twist and blow through over 300 microgames when WarioWare Gold releases exclusively for Nintendo 3DS family systems on 28th July. Download the demo from Nintendo eShop today.

SPEAK TO THE PRESS AND MAKE HEADLINES IN F1® 2018

SPEAK TO THE PRESS AND MAKE HEADLINES IN F1® 2018

New Developer Diary Details Immersive Career Mode

Larkspur, Calif. – July 5, 2018 – Codemasters® has today released the first of a four part series of developer diaries for F1® 2018, the official videogame of the 2018 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™, which reveals how you can ‘Make Headlines’ both on and off the track. New, time-pressured press interviews at key moments throughout your career will put you in the spotlight and immerse you into the world of F1 more than ever before.

The new developer diary, available to view now at www.youtube.com/formula1game, details how your interactions with Claire, the new reporter character in F1 2018, will shape the way in which you are seen in the sport and directly affect your career. Will you choose to exhibit showmanship or sportsmanship? Your answers can increase/decrease the motivation within departments in your own team, altering the price or reliability of upgrades, as well as any offers you might receive from rival teams.

“The media are going to play a huge part in the player’s career,” commented F1 2018’s Game Director, Lee Mather. “It’s super important for a driver to not just be skilled on track. It’s all about being the complete package. The player is going to need to consider how their answers impact the morale of their team and also how other teams in the paddock perceive them.

Lee continued: “Certain teams may like to see a driver who is a great sportsman: demure and calm in front of the press, even under high-pressure situations, while others may want a driver who is more of a showman who can create buzz.”

The answers available to you will develop over time as your character becomes better known within F1. The interviews will take place in new locations in the Paddock and in front of the team and scrutineering garages.

There are further improvements within the career mode. You now have more control over your destiny and can approach rival teams about a potential move, including the opportunity to switch within the season. You also have the opportunity to select your own championship rival.

Details of further enhancements to the career mode will be unveiled in part two of the developer diary series.

F1 2018 will release onto PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and Windows PC worldwide on August 24, 2018. Featuring all of the official teams, the drivers and all 21 circuits of the thrilling 2018 season, this year also sees the return of the French and German Grand Prix™ to the calendar meaning that you can now race at Circuit Paul Ricard and the Hockenheimring.

It was founded by Daniel Vávra, creator of Mafia and Mafia 2, and Martin Klíma, formerly of ALTAR (Original War, UFO:* trilogy). The studio contains a mix of experienced game industry veterans (and young-guns from all over the world), with dozens of games published and millions of copies sold.

In January 2014, Warhorse launched a Kickstarter campaign for a realistic medieval RPG game called Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It ended up being the third most successful project, according to the number of backers, in 2014. With an initial goal of £300,000, we finally gathered more than £1.1M. Warhorse Studios was also named among the World‘s TOP10 Most Innovative Companies on Kickstarter of 2015 by Fast Company.
