Kill la Kill: IF Heading to Europe with PQube

Fans of the Kill la Kill anime series will be happy to hear that Kill la Kill: IF is heading to Europe for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime later this year courtesy of PQube. With Studio Trigger assisting, Kill la Kill: IF recreates the feeling of the original series and will feature faithfully reproduced scenes from the original series as it’s story is told once more as well as a brand new “IF” scenario.

Players will be doing battle in 3D arenas and perform devastating combos using their favorite characters to take down their opponents. While no release window is set, North America will be seeing a release sometime this year from Arc System Works.

Our World is Ended Now Arriving April 18

It looks like Our World is Ended is going to take a little extra time to be ready for English audiences as PQube has announced that the game has been delayed from its previous release date of March 22nd. Now the game’s release will be a little odder as it is set to be released physically and digitally for the PlayStation 4 and Switch in Europe on April 18th while North America will only be seeing the game digitally on that day. The physical release of the game in North America is now set for May 7th.

PQube has yet to announce when the planned PC release of the game is set to be released though it is on the way. Our World is Ended features a team of eccentric game developers named Judgement 7 who are trapped between reality and the game world where simple glitches have devastating consequences. Featuring talented Japanese voice actors and a unique visual art style that will see players visiting iconic Tokyo landmarks players will have quite a lot to see in what PQube says is a game that offers over forty hours of gameplay.

Judgement’s Latest Trailer Highlights Localization

Now that Sega has confirmed that they will be releasing Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s latest game, Judgement, in the West the publisher has decided to give potential players a little sample of how the game will be localized. The trailer, found below, features a scene from the game that is presented with both English (a first in a long time for the Yakuza developer) and Japanese voice overs and then shown with subtitles for English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German speaking audiences.

Currently Judgement is slated to be released sometime this summer in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 4.

Zanki Zero: Last Beginning Censored for the West

In what has become a disturbing trend recently, Spike Chunsoft has announced a number of scenes that have had to be changed or flat out removed for the Western release of Zanki Zero: Last Beginning so the company could “ensure a release for the west.” These include altering the packaging art to remove any images that may be interpreted as sexually provocative, altering a CGI scene involving Sachika where her panties were visible, a CGI in the opening also featuring Sachika where her panties were shown, and the alteration of another CGI where Child Rinko’s arms have been adjusted to no longer cover her chest. The most notable is that all “Child” bedtime event cutscenes have been removed.

At least the news of censorship came with news of some additions to the localized release that include the Japanese swimsuit DLC being included in the game, a lower difficulty level for those who want to focus on story and puzzle solving, dual-audio, and a number of balance and UI improvements. Currently Zanki Zero: Last Beginning is still set to be released on the PlayStation 4 and PC in North America and Europe on April 9th.

New Story Trailer for A Plague Tale: Innocence Released

Focus Home Interactive and Asobo Studio released a new story trailer for their upcoming game A Plague Tale: Innocence. The trailer follows Amicia and her younger brother Hugo. The Inquisition is trying to track down Hugo, sending the two fleeing into the French countryside where the Black Plague is cutting a bloody swath through Medieval Europe.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is an adventure game that blends in elements of action and stealth into the gameplay. Players will encounter a large variety of people in the French countryside, where player choices will shape their fates. However, there is plenty of danger lurking about, from the bloodthirsty Inquisition to the supernatural plague rats that swarm around like water.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is set to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows on May 14.

ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove Review

ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove

Developer: HumaNature Studios
Publisher: HumaNature Studios
Platform: Playstation 4 (Reviewed) Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC
Release Date: March 1, 2019
Price: $19.99 USD – Available Here

Overview

Nearly thirty years ago, two funky aliens crash-landed on Earth for one of console gaming’s greatest adventures. ToeJam and Earl broke new ground on the Sega Genesis, eventually branching out with two sequels and a legacy as one (or two in this case) of the first mascots outside of Sonic to garner notoriety on the platform. All of this time later, we still remember – and thankfully a giving creator and the power of crowdfunding has brought about a revival with ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove. Featuring excessive fan service, new playable characters, and a new take on an old jam, can this foreign body sprout new legs? Let’s find out.

Story

Back in the Groove throws us in a ship with Toejam, Earl, Lawanda, and Latisha (both of the latter are from sequels, if you’re unfamiliar) as they decide to make another pit-stop by earth and jam out. Of course after making a critical mistake, this plan backfires with all four being sucked into a black hole, absorbing Earth in the process. It is up to our cast of characters to traverse a new chaos, while picking up pieces of their ship so they can yet again return home safely.

I love some ToeJam and Earl, as for myself, it was my own version of Mario or Sonic. These two had a huge impact my start with a controller, and I found Back in the Groove to be filled with everything I could have ever wished for as a fan. Nearly every Earthling re-appears in one form or another, and the same nostalgic atmosphere feels the same, despite a change in art direction. I have also had time to introduce others who had never heard of these two rad aliens before, and thus far, it seems the charm has aged gracefully into a new generation.

Gameplay

If you have ever played ToeJam and Earl, the concept has basically not changed since the original. Players pick an alien (six variants available from the start), and comb over one piece of the Earth at a time, where progression comes in the form of elevators that must be discovered by exploration. Each stage is loaded with presents, which come in the form of oddball hazards and weaponry to either assist or add greater to your journey in finding every ship piece. Humans (or stereotyped forms of humans that take a poke at our own culture) act as the enemy, each acting as annoyances that can make you fall off the stage or die if you happen to get their attention.

In rogue-like form, the player must safely obtain all of the scattered goods to rebuild the ship, one stage at a time. Back in the Groove does not forget where it came from, as it utilizes small features found in both the second and third game to add a little bit of extra flavor. For instance, the parking meters are back, where players can pop a coin in and hit each new meter or button that pops up to find a secret. Players can also work for cash by visiting Earthlings or by finding a hologram of a Funkotron resident, who will take you through a rhythm-action mini-game for some cash.

The game has also refined its leveling system, where players now get instant perks each time they level up. Sure, it could probably go a little further in this area, but for a rather short session overall – most will be fine receiving what is at times a life-saver of a perk like and extra life or a new present. This is a game that is an awesome single player experience, but like the original, begs to be played with friends. Whether it be online or split-screen, the world just feels a little more exciting to explore with someone else as it is designed for more than one to split up, and then reconnect when trouble arises. Be it a test of friendship or trust, ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove is meant to be played with friends, but is still a satisfying challenge for the solo gamers out there.

Visuals

When I first started playing the game, I will admit, I was taken back a bit. I was playing with a friend on split-screen and the visuals just seemed so different, as if the paper-doll like models did not animate as fluidly as I would have liked. I loved the game, but felt that animation was just a bit lacking. This feeling mostly faded as you do get used to it, as the quirky style is forgivable and easily fitting for our long forgotten protagonist. Sure, things may seem a bit different, but once that screen splits or a path churns ahead, you will feel right at home.

Audio

The soundtrack for Back in the Groove is funky. A celebration of remixed from tunes new and old pound throughout your progression, and are an absolute delight as this journey gets a little hectic in the later portion. The voice cast are also on point, bringing us voices yet again for most of the roster. I want to say that TJ & E are voiced by the same duo from the Xbox version (and I may be wrong on that), but either way, the work is well done and add a nice layer to two already superb characters. Humans also have voices and personalities, which are all meant to keep you on edge. It is a scary feeling hearing the sound of a lawnmower or the hum of a angel baby with bad intentions, but those are simply more reasons to love just how well built this title is.

Overall

ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove is a jamtastic sequel that more than lives up to the original. It’s rare that we see so much care and love put into letting players recapture their feelings from years ago, but HumaNature Studios hit all the right notes to orchestrate a fine production that is easily worth its price-tag. Whether you are new to the relaunch or already humming that theme tune as you read these words, this is one joint you should slam into your deck and unleash the funk.

HumaNature Announces Macaulay Culkin as Executive Producer of ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!

HumaNature Announces Macaulay Culkin as Executive Producer of ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!

Actor Joins the Alien Duo Franchise with Bunny Ears Games

SAN FRANCISCO – 27 February 2019 – ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!, the upcoming fourth entry of the beloved, funkadelic action roguelike series from HumaNature Studios, brings a new present for its fans, with the addition of actor and musician Macaulay Culkin as the game’s newest executive producer.

Culkin, an outspoken fan of the franchise, named the original 1991 Sega Genesis ToeJam & Earl as his favorite game during a Reddit “Ask Me Anything”, included the pair on a parody of the March Madness Mega Bracket as a favorite to win, and Tweeted he’d rather play it than watch the 2018 Oscars.

With more than three decades of experience in the entertainment industry, Culkin started the comedy brand Bunny Ears in 2017 as a digital outlet to express his unconventional thoughts on everything pop culture related through hilarious articles and podcasts with fascinating guests.

Now The Incredible Culk and his team are debuting Bunny Ears Games with ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove!. Bunny Ears’ wry wit and penchant for satire provided crucial input to ensure the game is a hella good time. Growing up playing the original game on Sega Genesis, Culkin knew exactly what would – and wouldn’t – appeal to the thousands of Kickstarter backers that funded the sequel.

Says Culkin, “I’m honored to be producing the new ToeJam & Earl because it is literally my favorite video game of all time. Plus, Greg Johnson is the tits!”

Back in the Groove! debuts on March 1 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam for Windows PC and Mac, bringing humans’ favorite funky aliens back to our planet. The iconic duo tries to inconspicuously borrow the Rapmaster Rocket to show off to Latisha and Lewanda. One press of the wrong button causes a black hole incident that leaves them with a broken ship, stranded on Earth. Find parts to rebuild the ship, deal with those weirdo Earthlings, and get back home.

ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove is a ‘90s styled blast from the past.” Said Greg Johnson, founder of Humanature Studios. “Macaulay Culkin, the star of the ‘90s classic Home Alone is an Uber Fan of the ToeJam games. He totally gets the vibe and humor of the new game, and his involvement has made the game even crazier and more fun.”

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove will be available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), and Brazilian Portuguese for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC and Mac via Steam for $19.99 USD on March 1.

IRON THRONE INTRODUCES INVASION RIFT, ANCIENT PEOPLE’S TRIAL AND MORE WITH FEBRUARY UPDATE

IRON THRONE INTRODUCES INVASION RIFT, ANCIENT PEOPLE’S TRIAL AND MORE WITH FEBRUARY UPDATE

Two New PVE Activities, Three New Heroes and New Castle Skin Have Arrived

LOS ANGELES – February 27, 2019: Iron Throne, Netmarble’s hit MMO strategy game, introduced several new updates on February 27th, including the Alliance-oriented Invasion Rift and the solo-player challenge Ancient People’s Trial, among others.

The Invasion Rift is a new Alliance-exclusive activity which will encourage cooperative play, as Alliance members must defend their Alliance Castle against Dimensional Strongholds or Rift Strongholds that appear nearby. Alliance members will find that the only way to ensure victory is to work together against the Invasion Rift and destroy it before the enemy forces reach the Alliance Castle.

For players who do not prefer Alliance-oriented content, the new Ancient People’s Trial will allow them to prove their own strength in the Trial Steeple. Players who have reached castle level 20 or above will be able to take on the Trial Steeple when it spawns at a random location in the kingdom, which can be established by checking the world map. Players will start at the first level and as they progress, can select which level of the Trial Steeple they wish to take on and then deploy their troops. Players can repeatedly attack the levels they have already cleared, allowing them to earn rewards upon each successful attempt. Rewards include building upgrade items and even permanent buffs, which can be acquired by clearing the highest level of the Trial Steeple.

New Heroes Rand, Eldred and Toma can now be unlocked from the new achievement rewards in the Event Center. These characters were previously seen as NPCs in Town Mode, but have now become playable Heroes.

Finally, the White Dragon Outer Castle Skin is now available after reaching castle Lv35.

Iron Throne is available for iOS and Android platforms via Apple App Store and Google Play. For more information on Iron Throne, please visit the website at www.playironthrone.com.

DiRT RALLY 2.0 TEAM CONDUCT COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS STUDY TO QUANTIFY IMPORTANCE OF A PROFESSIONAL CO-DRIVER

DiRT RALLY 2.0 TEAM CONDUCT COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS STUDY TO QUANTIFY IMPORTANCE OF A PROFESSIONAL CO-DRIVER

CODEMASTERS PITTED A SEASONED CO-DRIVER VERSUS A NOVICE TO MEASURE THE IMPACT OF EXPERIENCE ON RESULTS. THE RESULTS WERE … INTERESTING

Larkspur, Calif. – Feb. 27, 2019 – Codemasters has today revealed the results of their study into how a professional co-driver influences driver confidence and overall speed. The DiRT Rally 2.0 team conducted an experiment earlier this month with the only variable being the co-driver, all in order to discover the exact impact a trained navigator has on overall stage time. You can view the video documenting the study on the official DiRT YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/dirtgame.

Each co-driver was given one chance to guide Codemasters’ rally driver Jon Armstrong through a single stage at the London Rally School. Experienced co-driver Noel O’Sullivan helped Jon hit a time of 2:32. Novice Chris Codey assisted Jon to complete the same stage in 9:44 – one of the slowest times seen at the Bicester-based track.

Jon Armstrong said of the experiment: “It was extraordinarily difficult trying to string a few corners together with Chris as my co-pilot. He couldn’t tell his left from his right, and spent his eyes closed for the vast majority of the run. The closest instruction he gave was ‘watch out, there are bends’ … not ideal. It would have been easier if I’d have used Google Maps. At least Google Maps doesn’t scream.”

Dr Jasmine Masters, lead researcher on the study, concluded: “With a staggering time difference of 7:12 – the equivalent of taking 284 percent longer – the importance of a capable co-driver cannot be understated. Heck, even a coherent co-driver helps. It’s a good thing that Codemasters used a number of world class co-drivers to create the pace-notes and co-driver calls for DiRT Rally 2.0 – if we’d have left it to Chris, then in my professional opinion, we’d have been screwed.”

DiRT Rally 2.0, including official licensed content of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy, is now available on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X and Windows PC.
