Blood Lad

Blood Lad-Badge-BEST-SCOREMusic within a series or movie would have to be one of the most crucial aspects, without a great soundtrack carrying you through each and every scene a show or film becomes boring despite how good the actual scenes are, at least, that’s what I believe. The soundtrack to Blood Lad was absolutely brilliant, the in-anime score was all composed perfectly to fit each scene and each character in a way that I can’t honestly say I’ve seen since the Anime “Durarara!!” from many years ago which, for all of you out there who don’t know, had a brilliant soundtrack. The great thing about what Blood Lad did was that it never locked itself into a single genre, it wasn’t just rock, it wasn’t just electronic, it wasn’t just funk, it was all of it.

The series takes the ideas of demons, ghost, goblins, ghouls and the underworld, and throws them into modern (present) times so despite the fact that the characters are dealing with these ancient and arcane issues they’re still dealing with them as what seems like citizens of modern society, the great thing is that the music reflects this because it is very modern and ever-changing. It is almost to hard to explain because it is only when you hear it that you can truly understand how great the soundtrack is, just know that there is a reason why it one Best Anime Score of 2013 and that’s because it was done perfectly. – Frank Inglese
