Valvrave the Liberator 2
In what was surely one of the most outrageous shows of 2013, Valvrave the Liberator was almost laughable had it not been so dead-serious. Combining your classic team of mecha pilots, high school kids and a space opera, this anime won over almost all of its viewers until the series’ trademark vampiric abilities popped up. Many brushed the anime off as nonsensical while the rest of us embraced it as a thrilling ride full of twists and turns.
The second season took on a more serious turn and was full of revelations. The scattered plot elements came together, if a little haphazardly, and we were left with our hands on our heads as betrayal, counter-betrayal and deaths began to mar what was achieved in the first half. True to Sunrise’s style, Valvrave the Liberator 2 was a sequel that turned the series on its head and left us all the more entertained. – Sergei Lazarev
