Super Mari… I mean Scribblenauts announced today

5th cell has announced today that they will be releasing what is known as Super Scribblenauts. It seems that instead of simply naming the game with a number addition and being on a Nintendo platform, 5th cell is taking a page out of Mario’s book. Warner Bros. press release follows:

Available in autumn 2010, Super Scribblenauts for Nintendo DS expands the innovative elements from the acclaimed first title, offers upgraded controls and provides gamers with hours of original entertainment with ingenious, fun-filled new features. In Super Scribblenauts, created and developed by 5TH Cell, players use the stylus and touch screen to help Maxwell, the game’s hero, acquire the “Starite,” the prize earned from solving the puzzle in even more robust challenges and redesigned levels.

All-new for Super Scribblenauts, players now have the ability to write any object that comes to mind and modify it in any way they desire using adjectives to reach the goal in many levels. Adjectives can change the color, size, style, behaviours and many other aspects of the object they are describing. Multiple adjectives can be combined together to produce incredibly creative objects, such as gentlemanly, flaming, flying zombies and purple, obese, winged elephants, allowing the player’s imagination to run wild for an even more inspired and individual experience than ever before.

Looks like there will be a big new addition towards the game play now. Rather than creating a normal dingo and a normal baby, you could create a giant baby to eat your dingo. This will definitely improve the game play by making things a bit less repetitive as you can change objects and items at will with the adjectives. Also with an improved control system then the main character hopefully won’t be plummeting to his doom out of simple mis-touches of the stylus.

Look for Super Scribblenauts to be coming out sometime this Fall season. I played the first one and it was entertaining for a bit, however after enough trial and error most of the puzzles could be solved with just a few words that you could use over and over again without much fluctuation of style. With the adjective addition, it should make things much more interesting.

Bioware making probes easier?

Looks like Bioware has finally understood what is holding their amazing Mass Effect 2 from being an enjoyable game that will be replayed many many times without tiring thanks to the choice system. We all know what it is, the planet mining system. Sure on your first play through, mining the planets is relatively tolerable as you want to upgrade everything you can. However once you reach your second or third play through having to mine the planets becomes an unfortunately necessary chore.

On Bioware’s developer forums they have announced that there will be a brand new patch coming to the Xbox 360 that will be fixing a medley of glitches and exploits within the game after recent DLC releases. But there is one bit that is up for interpretation. We do not know exactly what it will mean, whether it will become faster, more efficient, or a launch all probes at planet at once button. But we shall see after the patch. Full Details on fixes below:

  • Scanning for minerals has been optimized
  • Fixed an issue with marking all entries as viewed in the Journal
  • Fixed an issue relating to text and the menu screen
  • Fixed an issue relating to players starting a new game and loading a save
  • Fixed multiple issues when loading a save containing DLC when DLC isn’t present
  • Fixed an issue with ammo flashing when it can’t be picked up
  • Fixed an issue with crosshairs
  • Fixed an issue with Grunt’s Fortification power
  • Fixed an issue with enemies and cover
  • Fixed an issue where players could receive additional talent points
  • Fixed an issue where squad members would overwrite ammo powers the player had assigned them

Gamestop Pre-order of AC:Brotherhood includes Harlequin Costume

I bet you have never heard of the word Harlequin before. If you have, then let me look up the definition for those of use (including me) who haven’t.

–noun

  1. ( often initial capital letter ) a comic character in commedia dell’arte and the harlequinade, usually masked, dressed in multicolored, diamond-patterned tights, and carrying a wooden sword or magic wand.
  2. a buffoon.
  3. any of various small snakes having bright diamond-pattern scales.

The first definition is probably the best for this situation. Anyway, Gamestop is offering a pre-order bonus of a Harlequin costume for use in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. You will probably not be stuck with a wooden sword and a wand. Strike fear into your opponents as your dance towards their death, because that mask is creepy as it is.

OH! and I totally get why she is called Harley Quin now! The chances of her real name coinciding so closely is coincidental.

Pre-order Lego Universe now

If you are a Lego Fan, you probably already know about the upcoming Lego based MMO that has been in a closed beta for quite a long time. Boxed copies of the upcoming Lego MMO from Netdevil are now available for pre-order at Lego retail outlets, the online store, Legoland and on LegoUniverse.com.

The game will cost about $39.99 USD will get you not just the game itself, but also 30 days of free playing time, a “story leaflet,” and a user guide. Some folks will also manage to get an “exclusive Minifigure” and a code to redeem the Minifigure in-game (“while supplies last”). The details on the figure are unknown but I assume the Minifigure is a Lego man, and the code will be a custom skin that matches the real Lego figure.

There is no confirmed release date yet, but get those pre-orders in.

Pokémon Black & White Gameplay Videos

Pokémon Sunday seems to definitely be leading the way with the hype of Pokémon Black & White in Japan. Bear in mind that these videos are both in Japanese so it will be hard to make out what they are saying. Then again though we aren’t watching these videos for the dialogue, though I wish I could hear what the people in the Pokémon suits are thinking during the show.

In the above video we see just a simple battle with no actual damage or attacks being done, but it does show the special ability of Zoroark the black fox, that it has the ability to transform into nearly any legendary Pokémon that you transfer over from other Pokémon games. Then in the video below we see not only the three new starter Pokémon, Tsutaja, Pokabu, and Mijumaru, in battle for the first time, we also are able to see how Hiun City itself looks. It seems that there is definitely a lot more emphasis on a 3D environment and being more of a third person type game, rather than always viewing the action from a top down perspective.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 – Blast Off With Mario For Another Out-of-This-World Adventure

Run, jump, and fly through a dazzling galaxy of all new stages, bursting with imagination when Super Mario Galaxy™ 2 for Wii™ hits stores from 1 July 2010. In 2007, Super Mario Galaxy™ took the world of video games by storm. Now this first true Mario sequel in years re-energises the franchise with new levels and new power-ups.

New power-ups include a drill that Mario uses to tunnel through surfaces all the way to the other side of a planet! Plus Mario can eat a boulder mushroom to attain the boulder suit! Mario can then ram into objects and enemies and even becomes a boulder ‘bowling ball’ as he bowls down pins!

This time Mario even gets to team up with everyone’s favourite character, Yoshi! Yoshi adds new possibilities to the gravity-defying game. On some stages, Mario can find a Yoshi egg, smash it open and hop onto Yoshi’s back. Yoshi can use his tongue to swing across chasms or to grab items and shoot them back at enemies.

Yoshi has an interesting diet; when he eats a Dash Pepper, he gets so hot and frenzied he can run up steep inclines and vertical walls. When he eats a Blimp Fruit, he inflates like a balloon and floats to new heights!

For players new to the Super Mario Galaxy franchise, Super Mario Galaxy 2 comes packaged with a DVD which provides helpful hints and tips. Included are tips for skilled players as well.

Vocaloid Lily being developed

In this month’s issue of DTM Magazine from Japan they have released information about a brand new Vocaloid that is being developed by AH-Software using Yamaha’s vocaloid technology. There is still no actual information about who will be providing the voice cache for Lily, however there is speculation that Yuri the head vocalist of M.U.S.E. from Japan will provide the voice.

Vocaloid’s are blank slates of music creating technology that allows anyone with the program to create their own music and singing through the various vocaloids that have already been created. The most popular of which is Hatsune Miku, with the most recent before Lily being named Megpoid Gumi. There have been recent advances including the use of English compatibility, allowing English audiences to also make their own music.
