TRON 2 license streams ahead but stays light years out of reach!

Gaming controllers get redesigns and facelifts all the time, whether due to a new license, official remodeling or just some third party tinkering, but this one is something very special indeed and I need it NOW – more than oxygen even!

To celebrate the forthcoming sequel to Disney’s ’80s-tastic TRON movie (and it’s video game) images of officially licensed TRON 2 (aka TRON Legacy) themed controllers for the Nintendo Wii, Xbox360 and PS3 consoles have appeared here in cyberspace.

Each controller features a sleek black design with fully illuminated neon lines that trace along the contours in traditional TRON fashion and I think it’s safe to say that even those who aren’t fans of the movie series are sure to be impressed with these frankly very special controllers. But don’t celebrate just yet, as unfortunately there is a blip on the radar.  Currently these controllers are being used solely as promotional material for TRON 2 and there no plans to release them to retail at this time.

With their popularity at E3 and word spreading fast online they would almost certainly be a sure fire sales success so let’s hope that the producers of these wonderful toys (as Jack Nicholson’s Joker once said) see sense and go to market. Anything else is just pure madness – or maybe it’s just me being incredibly needy! Regardless – I really, really want one, or indeed all, of these asap! Santa are you listening?

Who’s going to pick one as well ?

Red Dead Redemption ‘Outlaws To The End’ Full Details Explained

Platforms: Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
Developer: Rockstar San Diego
Release date: June 22, 2010 (US Time)
Price: FREE to download

Overview

‘Outlaws To The End’ is the first of several upcoming DLC packs for Red Dead Redemption and will be completely free to download via Xbox LIVE and Playstation Network. The ‘Outlaws To The End’ pack allows up to 4 friends to tackle new missions together, complete player challenges and earn new achievements/trophies.  A total of six missions will be available when the DLC launches.

New Features

  • Revival/Bleed out: In co-op, if a player is mortally wounded, he will not instantly die. Instead, teammates have an opportunity to revive fallen comrades for a limited period of time. Once a player falls, a timer will appear over their avatar and slowly deplete. Once the timer is up, the character is permanently dead unless a fellow teammate reaches a checkpoint. Which leads us to…
  • Checkpoints: These work a little differently in co-op than what players are accustomed to in the single player campaign. Checkpoints in co-op act as a respawn point for any fallen teammates. For example, if 3 players are killed in a firefight, but the last standing teammate finishes off the remaining foes and reaches a checkpoint, all his comrades will respawn. If all 4 players are killed the mission must be started from the beginning.
  • Medals: Completing co-op mission earns players medals for performance as well as XP bonuses. Earning a silver medal or better unlocks new playlists with advances weapon load-outs for each class.
  • Advanced Co-op: Once all co-op missions have been completed at least one time the Advanced Co-Op Missions playlist unlocks. This playlist contains all the same missions, but with harder AI and expert targeting forced on. These really ratchet up the difficultly and are a much tougher challenge.

Character Classes

For the first time, players will have the option to select a character class prior to the start of each mission. Each class begins with a distinct load out – a set of weapons and equipment unique to that particular class. Generally it is considered wise to bring a diverse group of classes into each mission, as players will encounter shifts in scenery that will call for new strategies and tactics.

MarskmanExpert in long-rage combat.

Starting load out: Rolling Block sniper rifle; Cattleman revolver; throwing knives

Miner — Close-quarters powerhouse.

Starting load out: Pump Action Shotgun; Schofield Revolver; Dynamite

Gunslinger Specialist in mid-range combat.

Starting load out: Double Action Pistol; Carbine Rifle; Fire Bottles

SoldierWell-rounded, jack-of-all trades class that performs adequately in most situations.

Starting load out: Winchester Repeater; Volcanic Pistol

Missions

AmmunitionThe Mexican Army has the town of Tesero Azul under siege. You and your comrades are pinned down, caught under heavy artillery fire and enemy reinforcements. Your first goal is to clear the town of all hostiles while avoiding enemy artillery blasts from the ridge. Once completed, the next phase of the mission shifts to clearing out the Eastern and Western fortifications surrounding the town. These areas are rife with snipers, riflemen, and gunners on mounted Gatling guns. Once the flanks are secured the final phase of the mission begins, prompting one of your team members to grab explosives from inside the town and plant them on the high ridge amidst the opposing artillery encampment. The mission concludes once the camp is secure and the explosives detonated.

Walton’s Gold – Walton’s gang has taken control of a small mining camp rich with gold. Fight through the camp while avoiding sniper fire from the ridge and mounted Gatling guns near the entrance to the mine. Once inside, pile as many bags of gold as you can into a mine cart while fighting off waves of Walton’s cronies. Be quick, the mine is rigged to explode! Once safely outside the mine, defend your newly acquired riches from Walton’s reinforcements.

The Escape – Interrupt an arms deal and steal a coach full of gold, with the option of using a second, Gatling gun-equipped wagon for protection.  Turn the gold in to the American Army and clear out remaining resistance in the town of Tumbleweed.  The battle at Tumbleweed involves cannons and Gatling guns. After a classic double-cross that ends in a stand-off, escape with the Gold Coach to Mexico, battling Army soldiers the entire way.

The Herd
Cattle rustlers have taken control of Box Canyon. Fight your way in and wipe out the rustlers, then use teamwork to protect the herd as you lead them home to Armadillo under heavy fire – watch for snipers on the ridge, and reinforcements on horseback.

The Kidnapped GirlAnother gang has taken over Fort Mercer, and they’re holding a farmer’s daughter hostage. Charge the fort and eliminate the gang’s inner stronghold, then fend off reinforcements as you transport the girl by stagecoach to her home at Ridgewood Farm.

The RiverUse a raft to head downriver, taking out rebel encampments along the way until you reach the rebel stronghold of Nosalida and a final epic battle for the town’s massive weapons caches. Watch out for Gatling gun-equipped enemy rafts.

Gran Turismo 5 New Features Revealed

So, E3 has come and gone, Gran Turismo 5 was announced and a release date was given, but not much more than that.  However now in a simple interview over at the UK PlayStation site we have even more info courtesy of Shuei Yoshida, the head of Sony Worldwide Studios.

During this interview Yoshida ended up revealing that there has been more game enhancing graphical effects which are now included in the already graphically impressive Gran Turismo 5.  These features such as enhanced damage, night racing and weather effects are now confirmed.

Beyond that though he also mentioned that there are a few other elements of the game brand new to the world.  These features are a track editor which is a nice feature, especially with such an in depth game as GT5. Also go-karts.  Not too sure about how the go-karting will be but as this is Gran Turismo it should be amazing.

Catch Gran Turismo on November 2nd this year in the United States.

NHL 2011 Cover Athlete is Toews

Looks like the Chicago Blackhawks are getting love from all kinds of markets this year. NHL 2010 featured Right Wing Patrick Kane, they win the Stanley Cup this year, and now Captain Jonathan Toews is now going to be featured on NHL 11’s cover.

This is the first time that any team has received two players back to back on an NHL game.  Not only that but Toews will be the featured cover player for all editions and regional games.  Toews was one of the top Blackhawks players of the year and watching him play on the ice as a Chicagoan was one of the highlights over their Stanley Cup run.

Toews is also the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy which is the name of the trophy provided to the MVP of the playoffs.  With team members Patrick Sharp, Patrick Kane, Dustin Byfuglien, to name just a few they were a dominating force this year.

But more on the actual game, as it will feature the teams from the Canadian Hockey League as well as the National Hockey League, broken sticks which unfortunately happen quite often in a real game, new face off systems and new physics.

One thing that would be interesting is if the players could end up losing their teeth just like Duncan Keith did during the Semi-Finals this year. Will playoff beards be included in Season Mode as well?

Catch Toews and your other favorite teams this September for the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

RDoD Comes with a Warning

Unfortunately there is some bad news involving the new Slim Xbox 360s, they are still prone to a red light appearing.  What is better known now as a Red Dot of Death involves a warning though this time around.  The Red Ring of Death is no longer an issue in these new 360’s due to the fact that there no longer are red lights included in the ring.  But this issue seems to be less of a problem and more of a cautionary measure.

If the 360 detects that there is not enough ventilation getting to the unit through the fan slots, the message below will appear and warn the user that the 360 will shut down on its own to prevent failure.  This means that the system itself will shut down to prevent an overheating reaction, which could help prevent RdoD. Once the red dot stops flashing that means the system is cool enough to play again safely.

But what if your 360 is on the verge of always breaking, if the ventilation becomes a serious problem will the console always be in a state of automated shut down?  Plus what type of warning time is there for this shut down?  Looks like games that do not have autosave will require much more save time due to the fact your 360 could potentially shut itself down at any moment, such as RPGs or long boss battles.

One must notice though in the first picture, there is a bit of odd dust pattern there.  Plus I have a feeling that this could have been a deliberate act, to see if the new slim does have a failure point, and if so then what will happen when it does fail.  It’s entirely possible that the system itself was purposely overheated, though it did turn out an interesting result.

Red Dead stands at the top of UK Charts

John Marston is standing strong in the United Kingdom with another week at the top position in sales.  Even with powerhouse titles such as Super Mario Galaxy 2 and FIFA World cup being just as popular, these two titles can hardly compare to Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption. Sales have dropped understandably but have dropped all around for each of these titles, making Red Dead’s stand off at the top of the list all the better.

The top 10 United Kingdom Sales all around are here:

1. Red Dead Redemption
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa
4. Just Dance
5. Rooms: The Main Building
6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
7. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
8. Wii Fit Plus
9. Blur
10. Wii Sports Resort

3DS Price Hinted at by Satoru Iwata

Venturebeat has managed to get an interview with Nintendo Boss Satoru Iwata and he had a bit of light to shine on the whole 3DS pricing question.  He was able to state that it will cost more than any current DS available, this is due to the fact that the 3DS will cost more money to produce.  He also stated that the price of the 3DS would not be below production costs and will be slightly above to turn a profit.  This is not an actual price release but we have a feeling that it would not be more than $250 when all is said and done.

The original DS was $150 at launch, the DS lite is still running at $130 now, and the DSi XL which is the most expensive of all the DS is running at $190.  This could mean that it would only be slightly more than current DS types, but could also be much more.  Here is hoping that the price will remain in the $200 range, but then again what would you be willing to pay for this?
