Gearbox releasing the 2 most requested features for free

Two of the most requested features for borderlands, a higher level cap and level integration are not going to be released with Borderland’s Fourth DLC. According to gearbox, if they release the increase level cap and level integration in the DLC you would have to buy all previous DLC in order for it to work properly. Instead Gearbox has decided to remedy the problem by simply releasing both for free.

The new level cap is, yeah you probably guessed it 69. You know you were kind of expecting it deep down.

The update will be released around the October 12th Borderlands Game of the Year Edition release.

Crackdown 2 “Toy Box” DLC crash fix

If you were one of the many to go out and buy the Crackdown 2 DLC on day one, you may have has some crashing issues and other bugs that came along for the ride. Don’t worry, Ruffian Games has issued a fix for the problem, but oddly the fix consists of rereleasing the entire DLC again. IF you already downloaded the DLC you will have to redownload the DLC now in order to fix the issue.

Yeah, it is quite an inconvenience; but at least you get a bug free experience now right?

Duke Nukem Forever Finally Coming

Many of you have probably heard of Duke Nukem Forever and may have even just passed it by as the longest running april fools joke in existence. Well it wasn’t an april fools joke, and instead it was an actual game.

What happened was this:

3dRealms was working on the game, but took way too long on it. Once they didn’t release the game for an excessively long time they were brought to court and legal stuff happened.

The Game then disappeared for a pretty long time, until it resurfaced in a rumor that Gearbox took the title and ran with it. Gearbox (guys who made Borderlands) had been working on it and showed off a playable version at PAX, they also had T-Shirts (yeah, be jealous).

Now that we all know Duke Nukem Forever is again in development and again going to come out, there is more news relating to Duke Nukem. Turns out Gearbox in fact has claimed all rights to Duke Nukem. What exactly does this mean? It means you can expect much more Duke Nukem coming out from Gearbox.

Duke Nukem Fans Rejoice! People who wanted more Borderlands can join me in this corner and sob. Hopefully they have enough members on their team to develop both. We know this 4th DLC was Gearbox’s last for Borderlands, but everyone secretly wished for more.

“Bloody Good Time” Announced for XBLA and Steam

Ubisoft are inviting players to have a “Bloody Good Time” with their new IP from developers Outerlight. Bloody Good Time offers a different approach to the shooter genre, putting players on a Hollywood set. In this multiplayer shooter you control a range of Hollywood-hopefuls, from washed-up film extras to B-movie Bikini Babes, all trying to impress the Director, aptly named Director X. Your reward for coming first: camera time and a place in the credits. Director X’s audiences are always astonished by the realism of his scenes, but he is in fact, just filming the actors battle it out for fame and fortune.

Bloody Good Time will run on Valve’s Source Engine, a 3-D engine suited for shooters of this nature. As you can see from the announcement trailer, Bloody Good Time shares a passing resemblence with Valve’s Team Fortress 2, not only due to the same engine, but also due to the wacky array of weaponry like in TF2.

When released, Bloody Good Time is set to feature 8 -player online multiplayer, and will provide ‘multipayer experience like no other’. For now, here’s the trailer that accompanied the announcement.

Bloody Good Time will be released on Xbox Live Arcade for the Xbox 360, and Steam on Windows PC in Spring.

Zombie Highway – iPhone/iPod Touch Review

Zombie Highway

Company: Renderpaz

Release Date: August 27, 2010

Price: $0.99

BUY NOW

Story:

Welcome to Zombie Highway, the road to hell. Ride down the highway, maneuvering your vehicle to avoid zombies or knock them off your car. That’s not working? Shoot them with your upgraded weapons. Sounds too easy? Try avoiding the piles of abandoned cars in your path. Drive to the end without getting flipped over by zombies that fly to your car like magnets. Remember those safari monkeys attaching themselves to your car? Well, these are zombies and they’re nowhere near cute and furry. Drive safe!

Sound and Graphics:

To start off, the sounds are ok, but they’re nothing special. You hear the car when it makes sharp turns and you hear the zombie jump on your car (kind of a thump) or fall of (splat), but it’s not one of those zombie games with the sound that chills you from the inside. If you’re looking for a not-so-scary zombie game, then this may be for you. Now, for the graphics. This game has very old graphic styling. The car and entire environment look like one of the 1990s games on PC. The weapon icon is the only object in the game that looks like it was designed in the 21st century. The graphics aren’t bad, but comparing to other games that are available in the App Store right now, especially zombie games, this one could use a lot of improvement. The health bars look pretty good and they flash when the zombies are more vulnerable after a hit and that’s really all you need to look good in the game. Although the graphics aren’t that great, it’s still a great game worth playing.

Gameplay and Controls:

This is a fun game, no matter what it looks like. You’re riding down the highway when all of the sudden zombies start propelling themselves onto your car. You have to knock them or shoot them off before they flip you over. Different zombies have different amounts of stamina holding onto your vehicle. The better you do in the game, the more weapons you gain and by touching the weapons icon, you can choose which one you want to use to destroy the zombies. The only thing not so great about this game is there is no real replay value unless you try to beat the high score and it can get boring after doing the same thing over and over throughout the game. You’re driving on a highway, trying to avoid overturned and abandoned vehicles, as well as zombies. Make sure you don’t smash your car head-on or get flipped over by zombies or the game is over! This can get hard, but it’s a lot of fun. One cool feature of this game is that you and your friends can try to beat each other’s high score! The controls are simple, but can be a little unnoticeable. To drive, just tilt your iPhone or iPod Touch, but to shoot, you must tap the little firing buttons on the side that are parallel to the zombie. If the zombie is on the top right of your car, then you hit the top right firing button on the screen to shoot. This can get annoying when you have 4 zombies on your car, activating all the firing buttons and they’re too small to see them at times.  This really is only a problem if your iDevice is in a case. Once you master this, the game becomes a lot of fun. Just touch the weapons icon to choose your weapon and you’re ready to go. You can always switch weapons during the game. Choose whatever helps you from being flipped over! As an added tip for staying upright, the zombies are more vulnerable after they’ve been smashed. Shoot a zombie right after you smash them, while their health bar is still flashing, and you get more points and finish them off faster. There are zombies out there, so beware!

Summary:

Zombie Highway has a great concept, but the graphics are lacking and the sound effects could be improved. The game is also just driving on and on with no changes to the game, besides new weapons and zombies. Otherwise, this is a great addition to the zombie game collection in the App Store. If you enjoy smashing zombies and racing games with obstacles, then this just may be the perfect game for you. This game deserves a GOOD rating of 7.5 capsules. If the graphics had more detail, the sound effects were improved and there were more surprises in the game, then this game would have received a much better rating, but for now it only gets a 7.5 until it gets these updates.

Device Hero XBLIG

0

More of an Xbox Live Indie App, rather than an Xbox Live Indie Game, Device Hero lets you put your Xbox to the test as it undergoes a trial to see the processing power it possesses. The result is measured is ms, and it couldn’t be simpler to initiate. You simply press the A button to start the test which lasts only a short while, until you are finally presented with your results. From here, you can then compare results with friends who also own Device Hero (with the lowest score being the best), and settle once and for all who has the fastest HDD.

As you can see from the screenshots on the download link, Device Hero has a simple but attractive interface. Some may argue the 240 Microsoft Point price tag is a little pricey, which is a perfectly valid point, although if you do want to see what your Xbox 360 and HDD are capable of then this is the XBLIG for you.
