Vindictus – PC Preview and Beta Key Contest

I love MMOs, and I love fantasy games. I have tried some free-to-play MMOs in the past, such as Perfect World, but I have to say that Vindictus has been the most impressive one so far.  It was actually quite refreshing! It had a really nice introduction scene (that unfortunately my computer sputtered through… but my computer is getting old) and a very nice character customization.  A lot of new games have micro customization where you can control your looks down to the length of your nose, which I personally hate.  I can never really tell how I made myself look until I hit enter, and then I’ll realize that one of my boobs are lopsided or something.   This one had just enough customization.  You probably don’t really care about that though.

Talking to NPCs quite honestly reminded me of a Nintendo DS game, and this part disappointed me the most about the game.  Their picture come up in the corner of myscreen with their dialog scrolling next to it, and I never really “saw” the NPC.  Instead, when I walked into a room, I simply saw a screenshot of the room and with all of the options of people to talk to along the side of it.  I suppose that’s what you get for playing a free game, but it worked nonetheless.

You receive some kind of quest to do a dungeon, and it tells you which direction to go… so I went.  Their dungeon system is odd at the moment, I’ll have to play some more before I will be able to really tell you the details of it.  Basically, you choose a boat, and each boat will have different dungeon quests associated with it, ranging from easy to difficult.  You choose which one you want to do, and you’re off!  I fought a lot of wooden people in my beginner’s dungeon.  It was fun.

For their NPCs being so underdeveloped, their fighting style was very, very nice.  Instead of locking target on an enemy and knowing that your sword swing was going to hit them, it was extremely hack and slash which was VERY fun.  What made it especially fun was the ability to do combos and special attacks.  Holding down E would grab your enemy by the neck, then pressing your right mouse button would pretty much do a choke slam.  It was absolutely thrilling!  Or I could just be way too pumped up about how many assassinations I did in Halo: Reach today too…

Overall, I give the BETA 9 Capsules out of 10.  Amazing for a free game, a little lacking in the NPC department though.

Twitter Contest:

Moving on though, the game will be available for open beta beginning October 13th, but I have two closed beta keys available, and I bet you want one.  All you have to do is RT on Twitter:

Dragon Age Ultimate Edition Announced

Dragon Age is one of the RPG greats of this generation. If you’ve been on the fence, for whatever reason, about getting the game, well here’s your chance to get everything in one package.

This Ultimate Edition will come with every piece of DLC, even the recent Witch Hunt, and contain the expansion, Awakening. Buying everything seperately, as it currently stands, would cost $114. Dragon Age Ultimate Edition will sell for the sweet price of $60. I’ve played through the game and most of the DLC and I’m even tempted to pick this up. What better way to prepare for Dragon Age II?

Dragon Age Ultimate Edition will hit PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 on October 26.

Fall 2010 Anime Preview Series – Otome Youkai Zakuro

It is quite often that we see an Anime that deals with demons, henceforth to be called youkai for integrity sake, and humans living side by side with eachother and trying to coexist. Though here we have a bit of a twist in the average youkai to human interaction. The twist is that opposed to younger characters, we are dealing with the middle aged military men of the Japanese Army.

Japan has been consistently westernized during the Meiji era due to needing assistance from the West. They have just adapted the Gregorian Calendar as opposed to their usual Lunar calendar favored by the youkai. Because of this the youkai have started to cause trouble for the humans and make it difficult to live together without there being an all out war. To try and quell the brewing trouble both sides agree to form the “Youjinshou Ministry” which wil allow four female youkai foxes to coexist with three different lieutenants to try and show that the two races can live together in harmony.

With the way that the anime has been portrayed it is obvious that there will be a romantic element mixed in as the fox demons youkai attempt to connect to the human soldiers and the other way around. What I am excited to see is that because this anime is based off of the Otome genre, it will be the female foxes which instead take the lead over their male counterparts. Put it together with the era change and the unique way of trying to ease the tensions and this should be an interesting watch as long as things don’t turn stale fast.

Forza 3 Ultimate Collection

Forza and Top Gear are bringing their respective properties together in the newly announced Forza Motorsport 3 Ultimate Collection. Fans of the game will be able to enjoy 90 minutes of edited Top Gear TV content.  Also included is ‘Stiq’s Garage, a car pack featuring the Koenigsegg CCX, LEXUS LFA, and Mercedes Benz SLS-AMG.  Finally, the Ultimate collection will include every piece of DLC previously released, plus the full game.  500 cars and 100 tracks are yours for the taking.  Sure sounds pretty ultimate to me.  Look for it October 29, 2010 in the UK and Ireland.

Fallout: New Vegas Dev Diary 3 talks about the art of the game

Bethesda keeps rolling out their developer diaries and in this one Obsidian is talking about the way that the art of the game all came into place and how they decided to use the Rat Pack type area that was so popular in the 50’s era.

The fact of the matter is that Obsidian definitely did their homework when it came to world and character design. Everything from the houses to the Vegas environment has been combined with real world aesthetics. At least as real world as a world that never got out of the 50’s setting is.

Catch the third video below and also catch Fallout: New Vegas on shelves October 19th for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Red Undead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare finally gets a trailer now

Continuing on with our three day information spree on the upcoming Undead Redemption DLC pack from RockStar we have the finale with the trailer. There will be new gameplay mechanics, weapons and even zombie bears! We’ve already seen zombie horses, but bears now too? Makes me wonder if nearly every animal with this pack will have a zombie counterpart. Put this together with online zombie characters and the fact that the world is now full of zombies; this DLC pack is definitely worth the price of only $10 or 800 MSP.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 trailer shows Pain’s power

Those who have read the manga and watched the anime should know the below scene that starts the trailer right off of the bat. As we see Pain destroy the Leaf Village and Naruto heroically show up ready to avenge his hometown and his friends. Beyond just the opening cinematic they show we also see a bit more of what boss fights we will be encountering and the different modes of gameplay that we will be experiencing.

Of course we can expect to experience the intense anime action of Naruto in just a few short weeks as it releases on October 19th.

Medal of Honor breaks franchise pre-order records

EA has announced today that Medal of Honor has broken the franchise record for pre-orders. This is great news for the series as it is seeing an entire redesign from the ground up. There are no official figures yet so we will have to be taking EA at their word on this one. But the fact of the matter is that with the entire new feel and look of the series, people are excited and it must show in the pre-order figures.

Of course with the game coming out in a little over two weeks on October 12th they are also allowing players to get access to the Open Beta of the game on the PC. The beta won’t be open until October 4th, but you can download it October 1st to help alleviate the stress on their servers and make your speed go a bit quicker. But keep in mind that you will only have until the end of the day on October 7th to experience the beta.

Beyond Good and Evil – HD remake

Yup, you read that correctly, the cult classic game from the last generation, Beyond Good and Evil, is being re-released on XBLA and PSN, remastered in 1080p, touched up character models and achievements/trophies slated for release in 2011!

Quite the surprise, as Ubisoft has been extremely tight lipped in the past about Beyond Good and Evil’s upcoming sequel, let alone EVER even teasing or vaguely mentioning a project like this.  Beyond Good and Evil was originally released on every console of the last generation, Gamecube, Xbox, Playstation 2 and PC, back in 2003.  Like Okami, Beyond Good and Evil can be described with the phrase, “Like the legend of zelda, but…”.  Tasking the player with going through “dungeons”, finding a special item, using said item to aid in further exploration and finally defeating that dungeons boss, with plenty of collectibles and optional doings along the way.  If you haven’t played this masterpiece of a game yet, keep an eye out for this when it hits, you won’t regret it.
