Silent Hill 8 gets a few more details

True horror fans rejoice, the Silent Hill series may be returning to it’s roots. In a sit down interview with Czech gaming site Doupe, Silent Hill 8’s lead designer Mark Berka stated that the game is being designed with Silent Hill 2 in mind. Silent Hill 2 has been heralded as the best of the Silent Hill franchise, while the previous iterations of the game may have been more action packed, but overall didn’t feel like your standard survival horror game.

Another tidbit is that there will be no influence from the Silent Hill movie on the game itself. Instead, the developing team has enlisted the help from key members of the series though who they were was not stated. But being as Silent Hill 8 will be modeled after the second game, the best conclusion to come to can be those that also worked on that game.

With few games taking a chance at survival horror, Silent Hill 8 will take a different twist on the horror aspect. Instead it will follow escaped convict Murphy Pendleton’s journey through Silent Hill. Rather than having military experience like Silent Hill: Homecoming, Murphy has a deep background and depth to his character which will create psychological issues throughout his journey.

No news on a release date though from the interview, but it is great news to hear that the series is returning to it’s horror filled roots.

Captain America: Super Soldier announced by Sega

Sega has confirmed today that they are working on Captain America: Super Solider that is due in 2011 along with the feature film that is due for release next year. Marvel has also partnered with Sega for their Thor adaptation, so it is no surprise that they went with Sega again for Captain America. The developing team is Next Level Games, famous for Punch Out!! And Spider Man: Friend or Foe. Not only will the movie be hitting the silver screen, the game will be playable for practically every system; the PS3, 360, Wii, PSP, and DS.

The storyline for the game will be written by Christos Gage and will take place within the same world that the movie does. Christos Gage wrote Marvel’s Avenger: The Initiative, Civil War: House of M, and many other different titles so expect a true to comic book fashion storyline.

The game itself is planned on being a third person action game during World War II. During the war Captain America will be doing battle against Red Skull within a castle that has been converted into a Hydra Base. According to Sega the game will have “highly athletic combat system with fluid platforming and a highly tuned suite of shield attacks taking out multiple enemies at once, deflecting incoming fire back at enemies, solving puzzles, and scaling walls.”

Fist of the North Star more brutal in America

With the move across seas, Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage has been able to receive an upgrade in the violence department. There are also a couple other features besides extra blood however, as the updated version has English/Japanese voice acting, different enemies to fight in a level, better bike controls, and even a new stage to play.

Thankfully though Tecmo Koei isn’t forgetting it’s roots and is also releasing an International edition in Japan which will include all the different additions the game is receiving overseas. Releasing November 2nd expect to see tons more gore from the various screenshots we’ve already seen, because those are primarily from the Japanese release and as we now know, it has been stepped up for the American version. Exploding bodies will be everywhere….

“SHIFT extended” Shifts to the PS Store

My brother-in-law is always talking about this new fangled phone, the iPhone.  Have you heard of it? Apparently, it is an iPod AND a phone!  Well today I get to tell him that a game is coming from the iPhone to the PSP.  The game is called SHIFT extended. This unique puzzle game is a bestseller on the iPhone and will be ported to the Minis side of the Playstation Store for PSP and PS3.  It will be available by the end of the year, and it looks like it will be quite an interesting experience.   If you pick it up on Playstation, it will have more than double the content of the the iPhone version.

The video explains in detail the amount of storytelling that the game has, and the way that the player will be experiencing it.

With Epic Mickey hitting shelves November 25th and 26th in Europe and the 30th for the US, everyone’s expectations are quite high. Hopefully Epic Mickey will be as epic as it appears.
