Splinter Cell 3D gets a trailer and not much else

Are you ready to see a trailer which takes some of the worst aspects of 3D movies and emphasizes them in the first few seconds? Then you are in luck because Ubisoft released a new trailer today for Splinter Cell 3D and right off the bat we get the generic bullet coming through glass as it flies towards the screen look. Unfortunately my emphasis on the bullet itself is because not much else was shown for the trailer.

We are shown little else besides some action sequences that are not from gameplay, and what the final boxart may look like. Unfortunately at this time there is no set release date, nor any information on the story so fans of Sam Fisher will need to wait a little longer.

Gabe Newell gives his account info out to show Steam Guard’s protection

You have to give Valve’s Gabe Newell some credit, he at least stands behind the products that his company supports. Today at GDC he demonstrated the efficiency of Steam’s new security measure that they are calling Steam Guard. He did this by not only letting everyone see him log into his personal steam account but then went so far as to tell everyone his account name and password and then challenge those in attendance to try and hack into his account.

I don’t know if Gabe has been around the internet lately but usually challenging hackers to try and break into your supposed unbreakable account is really not a smart idea, especially when those in the depths of the internet hear about it. There is also a high chance that this account is simply a dummy that doesn’t actually contain any information other than to test how fast their Steam Guard can be broken.

Dynasty Warriors 7 – Gameplay at the GDC!

Dynasty Warriors 7 was shown off at the Game Developers Conference, and Tecmo Koei was kind enough to film some of it.

Releasing on April 1, 2011, the game will tell the story of “Shu, Wei, Wu and the new Kingdom of Jin.”   It will be  available on the the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Although the Dynasty Warriors franchise has had many games, this game does introduce a new element.  Called Conquest Mode, you can basically take up your favorite character, run around and kick ass.  Plus you will earn extra benefits like the ability to create new weapons.  You can also choose your favorite songs from the game to play in the background while you play this mode.

Warriors: Legends of Troy – The final trailer

Surely most of us know Homer’s story of the Trojan War.  But, have you ever played it?!  Now that would be pretty cool.  Soon, you will be able to truly experience the legendary story.  And if this final trailer is any indication, this game will be EPIC!

Anyway, although the gameplay does look much like Dynasty Warriors, the Mature rating will surely enable Tecmo Koei Canada to expand creatively.  This looks the best of the series so far, and the only other thing I want to know is if we will be seeing a wooden rabbit or badger in the game.

Bungie/Activision project confirmed as an MMO

Confirmed at GDC 2011 today, Bungie have stated their latest project under new-owners, Activision, IS an MMO. This puts an end to speculation as to what type of game it was, although as time progressed, various clues suggested it was going to be an MMO.

Bungie lead network engineer David Aldrige told a seminar crowd the news whilst speaking about netcode in a presentation called: ‘I Shot You First: Networking the Gameplay of Halo: Reach’. He described the title as “massively multiplayer action game”.

The title is part of an all-new IP, which Activision plans to have exclusivity over, relating to the ten-year deal agreed by both companies, but other than that, details are still limited on the new franchise. However, Aldridge was able to dispel an old rumour that the game would resemble “WoW in space”.

Tropico 4 Delayed; New Trailer Emerges..

For those of you who were waiting eagerly to start your dictatorship, you might have to wait just a little longer as Tropico 4 has been delayed until August of this year. This isn’t too big of a deal really considering the game was scheduled for Q2 of 2011, so another two months is fine by me as long as the game plays as good as it is looking.

Kalypso have also released a new quirky trailer for the Xbox 360 & PC versions of the title, which show off many of the title’s features such as interactive disasters as well as touch briefly on the Facebook and Twitter integration that Tropico 4 will boast. You can check out the new trailer below and fear not, as in just a little over 5 months, El Presidente will be ready to rule with an iron fist when the game is eventually released this summer.

“Battle & Get! Pokémon Typing DS” set to hit Japan April 21st…

While Battle & Get! Pokémon Typing DS was announced late last year for Japan, we now have a bit of news concerning the newest Pokémon spin-off. First off, this new typing style DS game is scheduled to release April 21st for the Nintendo DS in Japan. As far as a release overseas goes, that is still up the air, but we do know that this title will come bundled with a blue tooth keyboard which will have players typing as fast as possible to complete courses and objectives within the game.

I would think that this title seems likely to hit the U.S., but not every Pokémon spin-off makes it outside of Japan, just look at the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon titles for the WiiWare. If by chance we do see this title, I am very curious to see how the keyboard might work for other apps on the DSi, such as the web browser. More to come on that I’m sure, but for now all of us can look forward to the two titles we are getting for the DS, Pokémon Black & White, which will release March 6th.

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance shows of some multiplayer action

Gameloft has released a brand new trailer for Dungeon Hunter: Alliance and this time it focuses greatly on the multiplayer aspect of their upcoming dungeon crawler. In the trailer we see how the game will look depending on how many people are with you and how the game itself will handle it. Monsters will increase in quantity and level depending on how many people are with you which means that a party of four may have just as much trouble as a solo warrior.

Also we see a Move icon appear a few times during the course of the video which further emphasis the fact that DH: A will have complete PlayStation Move support. Exactly how integrated this system is has yet to be seen. But we will know for sure when the game releases at some point next month.

Turtle Beach’s new product is pretty cool

Turtle Beach has long been known to gamers for producing some pretty damn good products.  However, they have just announced a new product that may change audio in gaming forever.

Simply put, Turtle Beach is sending a kit to developers that will allow them to  customize sounds to their games and provide a whole new way to experience video games.  These custom presets will be coded to control “every parameter in the PX5’s internal Digital Signal Processor, allowing detailed control over the microphone, chat and game sound.”  Once these have been created, they will be available to download onto a PX5 headset via USB.

Microphone, chat and game channels can be saved separately and then mixed into a master set. Hence, you can have a virtually endless variety of combinations to use. Plus, Sonic Lens technology  allows creators to hone in on “specific audio cues, such as the quietest footsteps of an opponent amid chaos, or the roar of a race car coming up fast from behind you.”

The download portal for these unique “master” audio mixes will be located on the Turtle Beach website.  Of course, a social networking interface will also be included into this area.  However, publishers can also put the files onto their game’s website  too.  Qualified & interested developers can receive the PX5 Advanced Sound Editor for free.

“The PX5 Advanced Sound Editor is a unique tool that further enhances the already formidable PX5 headset, by offering a dynamic platform for game developers to further connect with fans and give them unique customized audio experiences far beyond what has previously been possible.” said Michael Arzt, VP of Marketing and Business Development at Turtle Beach. “The response from the development community has been incredible and we’re thrilled that Visceral Games is excited, and among the first shops to create for the PX5 community with their amazing custom presets for Dead Space 2.”

“Audio is a core component to the Dead Space experience and the PX5 really strengthens that,” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer Dead Space 2. “After creating the custom presets, it helped amplify every subtle sound in the game so when I put on the headsets while playing Dead Space 2, I felt even more immersed in the horrific game world we created. After all, hearing is believing.”

In list form, here are the other benefits of using this headset {info provided by Turtle Beach}:

·  Sonic Lens technology allows the developer to emphasize or magnify specific audio cues or effects in game by frequency

·  Independent multi-band EQ on the mic, chat and game channels allows developers to change the frequency response of the game sound

·  Sound Field Expander processing creates a wider audio soundscape

·  Blast Limiter allows developers to turn up the game volume to focus in on subtle sound without simultaneously increasing loud level sounds

·  Independent noise gates on the mic, game and chat channels filter out undesired noise to allow for true silence

· The PX5 Advanced Sound Editor is a standalone, Windows XP/Vista/7 compatible software product that has no impact upon game software code.

·  All preset files are stored either in the headset or locally on the users’ PC.

These downloads will only be available on the PX5 Programmable Wireless Dolby Surround Sound headset (http://www.turtlebeach.com/PX5).  This headset can be used on the Xbox 360, PS3 or PC via Bluetooth.  Currently, it is available for preorder.

Cheesy Goodness – Shadowrun Commercial.

Upon scrolling through the internets I happened upon a video. A cool video. A cheesy video. An early 90s/ late 80s sensation in the form of Shadowrun.

Yes, Shadowrun; the tabletop game/SNES adaptation had a commercial which is quite entertaining to look back with our modern standards. Did it withstand the test of time? No. Is it awesome? Yes, yes it is.

Shadowrun is a tabletop RPG that was conceived in the mid-80s and is set in a futuristic cyber-punk setting.  In this setting corporations control vast armies and try to control the lives of their employees. In this world, humans either devolve into standard fantasy creatures, or are born in that way. For example, a de-evolution would be a goblin, whereas a standard birth would be an elf.

In the early 90s the game was adapted into a RPG on several consoles including the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis. The games slightly changed the way the game was played to better suit the nature of the consoles but the core world/setting usually remained the same.

Below is the trailer for your enjoyment.
