Final Fantasy VI hits Japanese PSN

Final Fantasy VI is regarded by most fans to be one of the best that the series has to offer. Many of the older games have seen a ton of re-releases and remakes such as 1,2, and 4, but it seems that poor Final Fantasy VI hasn’t seen a re-release or a reboot since back in 2007 on the Gameboy Advance. Japan however just got the PS1 version released on their PSN store today.

Post from Square-Enix Members’ twitter account posted that it is now available on the PSN store. Also as a side note they recently released Final Fantasy V on there as well so there maybe a very good chance that us English speaking folk may get our hands on on it. We already have Final Fantasy VII-IX on PSN it seems more than likely that this will happen to although no official word was given. Till then if you want to play you may have to check out local flea markets and dust your old console out of the closet to get your fix. As for me I’ll hold on to all my 3 versions of the game.

Senran Kagura for the 3DS is a platformer full of girls

Huh… well I knew it was coming, you knew it was coming and it certainly didn’t take a whole lot of time before it happened. Japanese game developer Marvelous has announced that they are working on a new 3DS game that is being called Senran Kagura. Senran Kagura will be a side scrolling action platformer and will allow players to choose one of five different ninja students to battle against the enemy ninjas.

Now while this sounds like your standard affair for a side scrolling platformer, the kicker is what is coming up next. The five characters you get to play as are all women and all have unique abilities of their own. While this may not be a big thing on it own, that is where the 3D effects will take place. Andriasang was able to get the scoop from Famitsu that the 3D capabilities will focus on cinematic scenes that show off the girl’s bodies during combat and specific parts of the game. No word about whether or not this will ever see the light of day outside of Japan, but it will be released this Summer in Japan nonetheless.

Cursed Crusade website launched

Feel like doing battle in the name of a greater being than yourself? Well you missed the crusades by more than a thousand years but Atlus is looking to give people a chance to enter their own crusade, a cursed crusade that is. The title was mentioned only briefly in the past but it has now received plenty of attention as Atlus has launched an official website for the Cursed Crusade.

On the website you see plenty of screenshots and even some footage of the game itself. The site shows only a Summer 2011 release date, but a quick check of Amazon and Gamefly shows the title sitting at a July 26th and July 28th release. Of course this type of date can be taken as merely a place holder or something that has yet to officially announced.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City kills Leon in latest trailer

Looks like playing as the bad guys may be more exciting than we thought it would be. In the latest trailer released by Capcom for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City we are treated to plenty of gameplay footage and we are also introduced into some of the enemies that we will be facing in the upcoming zombie apocalypse shooter.

We are shown an out of control Tyrant that looks like the same one that we see in Resident Evil 2, the Spec Ops team that was sent by the government and of course plenty of zombies. Also shown off is the team members of the Umbrella team sent in to clean up any evidence, including killing Leon Kennedy. We are shown Spectre who appears to be the sniper of the team, the invisible turning Vector, Bertha the female soldier and possible tactician and the heavy weapon user Beltway. Catch the trailer below.

Backbreaker: Vengeance jukes onto XBLA this summer

Fans of Tackle Alley mode in the first Backbreaker game should rejoice because NaturalMotion has unveiled a trailer for what they are calling Backbreaker: Vengeance. Now NaturalMotion and 505 Games has already created a game of the same form for the iPhone and iTouch which focuses entirely on the Tackle Alley gameplay mode.

Apparently that is what will be the case this time around. For those who don’t know, Tackle Alley gives players a chance to make it across field as a single runner and must dodge various defenders and obstacles that have been placed in the way. The title looks to be an XBLA exclusive title and will be released some point this summer for a currently unknown price. You can catch a trailer for the game below.

El Shaddai demo available on Japanese PSN and XBLM

Even though UTV Ignition hasn’t announced a Western release date yet, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron has shown up on the Japanese XBLM and PSN. This means that if you happen to have either an Xbox Live account that is registered in Japan that you will be able to download the demo up until April 20th, but you will have to have a Gold account to do so.

The simplest way to get a hold of the demo however is to simply make a Japanese PSN account and download the demo at your own leisure for free. Of course if this demo is anything like the Catherine demo on the PSN then you must act quickly because the demo will only be available for a limited time. Also it is worth mentioning, albeit expected, that the demo will be in Japanese.

Majesco Announce Nano Assault for the 3DS!

In 2005, Majesco along with developer Shin’en introduced the handheld world to the fast paced arcade style shooter, Nanostray on the Nintendo DS. After a sequel and three years, both Majesco and Shin’en are ready to bring the shooter back, but this time on the Nintendo 3DS under the new name, Nano Assault. Nano Assault will put players in control of a Nanite ship as they maneuver through alien cell clusters, fight off infections, and analyze and destroy the virus’ core throughout 32 stages.

This journey will also come with a jam-packed arsenal much like the two Nanostray titles, with weapons such as “powerful beams, energetic bombs and other unlockable assault weapons” to defeat and take out the Black Nucleus, Hyper Blobs and Spore Plants. A respawning system will also be in play, allowing players to clone themselves and restart the journey at anytime.

Features are set to include mission mode, an unlockable arcade style cell stage where players must beat the clock by destroying the most enemies, and Hall of Fame, a bragging rights leaderboard where players can publish and compare high level scores with friends. The 3DS’ Streetpass can also be used to share unlocked content with other players.

I have said it before, but I think these type of shooters are perfect for the 3DS and with someone with the experience of Shin’en behind this follow-up, we could definitely be seeing a spectacular gameplay and visual experience on the 3DS when Nano Assault releases this fall. Stay tuned, as we will be covering Nano Assualt until then and I would expect some screenshots and trailers to be trickling out very soon.

Dragon Quest VI Officially Dated for Europe…

Just the other day we brought you news about a new rating that was released which signaled that Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation would be headed to the PAL region. It now seems that the game hitting Europe is now a reality as Nintendo have announced that the beloved remake would be released as soon as May 20th.

This does leave a question of when Aussies might get the same news as it was the Australian Classification Board that rated the game, so I look for a similar announcement to be coming out of Nintendo of Australia sooner rather than later. For now though European DS owners now have Realms of Revelation to look forward to. Dragon Quest VI as I have mentioned several times is a fantastic addition to any DS library and it is great to see it slowly releasing worldwide. We will bring you the news when an eventual Aussie date is announced, so stay tuned.

Netflix updated to work with Kinect on Xbox 360

Good news for everyone who uses their Xbox 360 to access Netflix. The latest update that was applied today made it so that the Kinect will now be able to work with the program. Netflix now supports all voice control and hand waving that you would expect after seeing the Kinect in use after so many months.

The update also created a brand new Kinect-only recommendation channel which uses only gesture controls. The channel is the same as the standard recommendation channel but it gives titles that can only be used by gesture or voice. Unfortunately the recommendations are as far as you can go at the moment, as more choices require the use of a controller which is more than a minor let down.

R 18+ In Australia: The Battle Rages On!

Anybody who’s read my articles, or listened to me on our podcasts on this site would’ve probably picked up on my passion on this current issue of the Australian Rating system, and the recent banning of Mortal Kombat. And recently I’ve had a couple of people email and ask about how they can help fight for change, and it’s really made me think. I too am sick of just complaining and would like to take action, but the question is how I can do this, and how can anybody partake in it. I am writing this to bring further awareness and recognition of a couple of people fighting for this online, and I highly encourage everybody to support them and their cause.

Grow Up Australia

Starting in October 2009, Grow Up Australia are at the front lines of the Australian fight for a better ratings system. Anyone even slightly interested in the subject should definitely check out these guys. These guys are doing amazing things and are a great source for information and updates. Check them out at www.growupaustralia.com, and add them on twitter at www.twitter.com/growupaustralia.

R18games.com.au

This website is presented formally and professionally and within one glance you can tell these guys know what they’re talking about. They’re not updated as often, but they are certainly doing good work in fighting for the R18+ rating in Australia. A great source of information, and most importantly check out the ‘how you can help’ section! It has a very impressive list of people to contact within the government, and valuable contact information. Check out the website at www.r18games.com.au.

Bald At Games

Be warned kids; this guy does swear a little, however there is no denying his passion for the ratings system in Australia, and particularly Mortal Kombat. BAG (Bald At Games) is a a youtube channel with over 860, 000 views, currently protesting and raising awareness about the Australian rating system, and obviously a massive fan of Mortal Kombat. He may not seem so serious as he does have a bit of a Aussie/bogan thing going on there, and does speak informally and throws in a bit of humour, but don’t under estimate him; he is a valuable fighter for the cause.  His slogan ‘We’re Tough Here, Give Us Our Games!’ has helped rallied many to the cause, as well as a highly successful petition with over 1750 signatures. You can sign the petition at http://www.gopetition.com/petition/43381.html (do it!) and view the youtube channel at www.youtube.com/user/BaldAtGames. His channel also mentions this link, which is worth checking out if your passionate enough to speak up http://australia.gov.au/have-your-say.
